Clavus finally reached the lagoon, pushing himself from the jungle and scented the air, almost immediately the scent of raptor filled his nostrils and scent him into a hurry, knowing from experience that raptors were almost never alone. So as quick as he could he moved down to the lagoon and drank his fill and then quickly as a stegosaurus could move he returned to the jungle.

Blade watched from behind a small lump in the ground around the nesting mounds, watching the two youngsters at a distance, eyes wide with excitement. He wanted to jump after Dragonflies too! He wanted to show them he could do it. hopping up, the youngster scampered forward, leaping onto Cirrus and spring-boarding himself after the dragonfly, his jump just falling short, the look of disappointment on his face almost comical as he flew past just beneath it, tumbling to the floor and bumping into the flank of one of the sub-adults, leaving a trampled Cirrus and an indifferent dragonfly in his wake...

Crusher, meanwhile, was on the trail of a scent. not any scent however. The scent of a Raptor. Specifically, the one he had encountered a couple of days ago talking to Darkness....and being chased by a Ceratosaur. Steeltalon, she said she was called. Last he had seen she was living alone. But now, he could smell the scent of other Raptors mingled with her own. the fact they weren't like those of normal Raptors only further increased his curiosity. There was something familiar about the scent however. He couldn't quite pinpoint it, but he knew he had smelt it before...

Cirrus gave an odd yelp as Blade's jump forced the gray hatchling off-balance, sending him sprawling into the dust. Alira bounced after Blade, chirping and stumbling a bit, as the sub-adult he'd rolled into gave a grunt and looked down at the youngsters. Behind them, Cirrus got to his feet, looking slightly irritated. He gave a final snap at the dragonfly as it buzzed around his head one last time, snaring one of its legs and pulling it off as the insect darted away.

As her headache subsided, Steeltalon finally felt able to open her eyes fully. She didn't dare move her head much, but from what she could see and what her nose managed to pick out underneath the reek of mutant, she was inside a fairly large cave. She could hear the shrill chirps of hatchlings younger than Silver, so it seemed Riptide's pack had grown larger than she was last aware of. Somewhere close to her head, there was the faint trickle of water over rock; even as she noticed it, a small, cold droplet splashed on top of her head. Somewhere, wind was whistling softly in a gap in the rock wall. And not far off, Steeltalon could hear Raven's voice - as well as two other male voices she didn't recognize.

"I still don't understand why father chose you to bring her back," Whiptail growled, narrowing his eyes. "You might be the fastest of us, but you're by no means the strongest." Ebony looked from one of his brothers to the other as Raven replied shortly, "It doesn't matter why he chose me. I got the job done." But in truth, he did know why Riptide had told him to go...he was being carefully manipulated. All three of Riptide's sons were. The mutant pack's leader wanted to know which of them was worth his attention. Amberclaw hadn't let Riptide kill off the two smaller male hatchlings when they had been born, so apparently the big mutant had decided to choose one of them and arrange accidents for the other two...Raven narrowed his eyes. We'll see what happens, father...we'll see.

The conversation had carried on without him; Ebony growled, "I don't see how it matters who kills her. if Riptide wants her dead so badly, Raven should've just broken her neck when he had the chance." "Riptide wants to kill her himself," Raven hissed, letting a bored tone slip into his voice. "It's something to do with a conflict he has with her family. Or something. Be glad you haven't had to hear him rant about it."

The faint echoes of conversation soon reached the young Rex's ears as he followed the scents, leading him to, interestingly, a dip in the ground, at the end of which was a hole. darkness seemed to dominate whatever lay beyond, a fact that only further fuelled the young Tyrannosaur's curiosity. Stepping gingerly closer towards the hole, he dug his feet firmly into the ground on either side and crouched down, poking his toothy head into the dark hole where the voices and scents seemed to be coming from...

What he heard did not please him. bring her back? kill her? Riptide? He realised whatever was being discussed involved the capture of someone. Could it be that Steeltalon wasn't here of her own will? Was she the subject of the grim discussion? Was he currently a spectator to what could well be her execution? He decided he'd listen in for a bit longer to see if you couldn't find out more...

Blade meanwhile had managed to get to his feet, albeit with difficulty, and now looked at Cirrus, cocking his head curiously. He made a very noisy spring-board....perhaps something to exploit for fun later...

"So when is the half-breed going to be killed anyway?" Whiptail hissed. "Weren't you listening?" Ebony bit out scornfully, ignoring the glare his brother gave him as he went on, "Riptide wants her dead by his claws, and he'll have done it before the sun sets. He was very clear about it." Raven growled low in his throat. "Father always did have a flair for the dramatic," he muttered under his breath. He backed away from his brothers and approached Vertigo, speaking with her briefly in low tones that reached no one but themselves.

Cirrus sneezed and gave himself a last shake, trotting over to his sister. He sniffed her briefly and gave Blade a nudge as if he were over it and warning the younger male to be more careful. The sub-adult allo whose nap had been disturbed muttered, "Hatchlings," and rested his head, closing his eyes again.

By now Crusher's eyes had become used to the darkness. he could see the cave floor....and the seemingly unconscious form of Steeltalon laying there. the smell of blood wafted from the fallen raptor, easily discerned from any other scent there. she had obviously been attacked. Then its true...the one they're talking about is her thought the Rex, concerned for his recent friend. "Psst.....Steeltalon....wake up" hissed the Rex as quietly as he could while still being loud enough for her to hear...

Blade completely misunderstood the nudge, believing it to be a suggestion for a play fight, the young Allosaur nudging Cirrus back, squeaking playfully...

Sand turned to smooth, black rock. Giant bulks further out in the surf towered, taking the ferocious blows of the ocean and dispersing the foam. Tidal pools pocketed the landscape and Aircrest slowed his run to a jog as he navigated the rocky shore. Further along, he spotted a few crevices varying wildly in size. Some were barely able to be called burrows, others were as large as the mouths of caves.

Aircrest slowed to a complete stop when he remembered what he was told by the two young raptors, about what happened to their mother. It dawned on him that he was standing where the accident could have happened, where a powerful surge of water rushed up the coast and claimed anything and everything unfortunate enough to be in its way. All of a sudden, the giant rock faces, worn by time and weather, became witnesses to death, the numbers of which were unknown. The irony that in his effort to survive; found himself where many others met their end, did not escape Aircrest. In fact it made him very uncomfortable, and so he started off again, trying his best not to look at the water as he went

Steeltalon controlled her surprised flinch, sensing that if the mutant pack knew she was fully awake, she would be in worse trouble than she already was. Instead of lifting her head, she rolled it to one side so her cheek rested against the cave floor, opening one crimson eye just a slit to look for the speaker. The voice had come from above...when she spotted the face of the young tyrannosaur she'd met a few days earlier, she had to bite her tongue to keep from crying out in surprise. What is he doing here? she wondered, willing him silently, Run away, get out of here before they see you.

Cirrus gave a somewhat annoyed chitter in response, nudging Blade back as Alira bounced around aimlessly, chasing something that it seemed only she could see for the moment.

"Steeltalon. you need to get out. they're going to kill you!" hissed the Rex quietly, his golden eyes shimmering intensely with concern and fear for the Raptor. his mind was already ablaze with possible scenarios, possible ways to help. He didn't think he could get to Darkness in time, and even then, he didn't know how successful he'd be against a pack of mutants. He had no idea where Ripper was, so that was out of the question, and his only other acquaintence was a utahraptor with less success intimidating opponents than he had. So calling in friends wasn't an option....

Blade chirped excitedly, the pupils of his eyes expanding until they almost completely engulfed his eyes, the small Allosaur's tail swishing left and right as he suddenly hopped forward, tackling Cirrus...

Somehow, without the mutants noticing, Steeltalon managed to give a slow nod, the expression on her face turning distinctly sorrowful. 'Run,' she mouthed. 'They'll kill you too.'

Taken completely off-guard, Cirrus gave a rather undignified yelp as Blade bowled him over. The gray male somehow managed to roll with the fall and regain his feet. With a chitter, he pounced at the younger hatchling, as if saying, knock me over? I'll knock you over too!

Crusher simply shook his head. "I'll distract them. you run" he hissed quietly, disappearing before she could say anything to stop him, darting into the undergrowth in search of a sufficient distraction...

Blade tucked his legs in between himself and the descending Allosaur, using it to buffer the collision, before pushing back hard, the force of the young Allosaur's powerful legs launching Cirrus right over him and into a bush, Blade rolling back onto his feet, tail swishing back and forth excitedly as he eyed the bush...

Soulbone opened his eyes lazily and yawned, the stench of dead sauropod flowing through the air from his jaws. He dragged his head across the ground, only to see a Compsognathus. It was a curious little fellow, squeaking and chirping at him. Soulbone continued to gaze at the small creature. He boredly turned his head away from the Compsognathus without care. The chicken-sized dinosaur hopped over to his tail and nipped at the tip, its teeth not able to penetrate the thick hide of the giant carnivore. Soulbone lifted his head. It was sundown.

Time to work his magic.

Soulbone arose, the Compsognathus clinging onto his tail with its jaws. The pale-white Giganotosaurus bellowed loudly, causing several pterosaurs and birds in the area to flee. He thrashed his tail to the left, flinging the 3-foot tall pest into some bushes. He growled and poked his head through the leaves. Squeaks of alarm and fear could be heard until a loud crunch silenced the conversation of a dying Compsognathus. The lower half of the dinosaur fell to the ground as Soulbone swallowed the other half whole.

This was his first kill of many tonight.

Steeltalon closed her eye, knowing that to try and run now would only hasten her death. She needed to wait for the time to try and escape - and meanwhile, clear her head of the remaining fuzziness. If the Rex managed to find a sufficient distraction, it could provide the chaos she needed to rid her life of Riptide and Vertigo - without the pack knowing it was her. She'd never be able to do so if she was shaky on her feet.

As Cirrus shook his head, recovering from his fall, an angry buzzing noise started in the bush he'd fallen into, droning on and growing steadily louder and more agitated-sounding. Cirrus looked around in confusion, noticing a swarm of black and yellow insects gathering above his head. He gave a squeak of fear and pelted out of the bush as fast as his small legs would carry him, the irritated swarm right on his heels, their buzzing sounding almost like angry snarling.

Blade's eyes widened as Cirrus charged right towards him, a swarm of insects hot on his trail. the youngster, frightened, backed away almost too fast for his feet to keep up, the youngster tripping and falling over, before scrambling to his feet and bolting in the opposite direction, trying to get away from the swarm that was unwittingly being lead toward him by Cirrus...

Crusher meanwhile, roamed the forest frantically, in search of something to serve as a distraction, yelping in fright as the ground suddenly gave way under him, the youngster having reached the edge of a small hill amidst the trees, nothing but undergrowth and air underfoot, the young Tyrannosaur tumbling down the hill before landing in a pool of water and mud, an irritable snort coming from somewhere nearby as he tried to get to his feet...

Soulbone turned his head to the annoying noise of the insects, then noticed Cirrus. He opened his jaws in some sort of a grin, or at least what was supposed to be a grin. The Giganotosaurus bellowed at Cirrus, preparing a charge. Soulbone's eyes had a fiery red tint, as if fresh volcanic rocks had been shoved in his eye sockets. The white behemoth sprinted towards the Allosaurus, opening his jaws for a bite, instead getting a mouthful of hollow tree trunk. He snapped his jaws shut, and with a loud crunch the tree was broken in half. Soulbone was infuriated.

Cirrus, spotting the new threat, gave a shriek of fear and literally skidded to a halt, the infuriated bees actually shooting past him in their frenzied pursuit and ending up in a buzzing, angry, somewhat disoriented cloud around the Giga's muzzle. Screaming another alarm call, the gray hatchling scrabbled to find his footing and dashed towards his parents and the safety of the pack. Alira, the newborn nearly deafened by the huge predator's roar, skittered after her brother, jaws agape in a silent cry of horror. Xanthe rose to his feet and gave a guttural snarl, Savarna right behind him. The black and gray alpha male started towards the enraged Giganotosaurus at a loping run, letting out a deep, threatening roar of his own.

Soulbone looked at the pair of Allosaurs. He shook his head and snapped his jaws in fury, trying to intimidate them. Hell, he was one of the biggest carnivores out there! He could probably take on a pair of Allosaurus. Saliva dripped from the mottled pale maw of teeth. He growled and took a step towards them and started deciding on which one to try to pick off first. Soulbone snapped his head to Xanthe and growled. The behemoth was planning a very deadly attack. The Giga tilted his head to the side, opened his jaws, and dashed towards Xanthe at full speed, saliva flinging out of his mouth as he ran.

the frightened squeel of Blade as he ran from the new danger resonated like some unnatural bell in Aurora's ears. it had taken all of two seconds for her to spring from her spot and bolt into the trees, tearing off to one side of the camp rather than running directly at the threat, the furious roar of the female ringing out through the jungle as she bolted through the trees with unparalleled skill, exploding from the trees only a few seconds later, colliding with the Giga's flank, the larger predator being rammed into the side of a large tree as she kicked off, a ferocious rattling snarl coming from the female, her talons coated in blood, long gashes running down the predator's flank, as Blade ran for the Alphas, knowing better than to risk heading for his mother...

Crusher finally managed to scramble to his feet, looking up at the source of the snort; a triceratops. a visibly aggitated triceratops. More precisely, THE triceratops. the very one that had gone on a rampage at the sight of the Raptor. the young Rex's eyes widened in horror as the herbivore snorted, twin jets of vapour spilling from its nostrils as it kicked up dirt with one foot, shaking its head, as if lining up with him, preparing to impale him. the Rex immediately bolted, a honking groan coming from the herbivore as it charged after him...

Xanthe darted in now, slapping one clawed forepaw against the male Giga's side as he ran past, and in the same second the recurved claw tips broke the skin, the muscles in the alpha male's hand and arm contracted, driving his claws as deep as they would go. The Allosaur's momentum now worked with him, helping to rip three bloody channels in its flank, each easily a yard long. Savarna gathered Blade, Cirrus and Alira behind her, putting herself between them and the threat with a dangerous look on her face that dared the Giga to come anywhere near a second protective mother.

Soulbone bellowed loudly. He looked at Xanthe and Savarna in a way that said "I don't want any of your damned babies." He wasn't into food that was smaller than his feet. He snarled in a way to let the pair know that he wanted them to be his next meals. The giant bit at Xanthe, managing to grab him by the arm. He bit down, obviously breaking the limb's bones. Soulbone basically had went into a biting frenzy, now biting onto Xanthe's ankle. He flung his head upwards and let go, flipping the dinosaur over. Soulbone would eat Xanthe alive at this point, but he was going to make him pay. He did a quick but powerful bite onto Xanthe's hip, leaving several puncture wounds on the leg.
