"Protection" responded Ripper calmly as he eyed the younger Raptor. "I'm sure you've experienced moments where you wish you had something to protect your hide from whatever was touching it. splinters on branches, falling roughly in a hunt, so on" he explained...

"I see" Aircrest growled with a nod. He wondered how he want from being tormented by the quilled raptor, to being enlightened by him. That question would have to wait until later, for the green raptor had a more pressing issue to discuss. "So...what happened to the others?" He growled, maneuvering around one of the aged machines. "The other raptors I mean...why are you the only one still here?"

Sand Claw moved through the forest alert and thirsty. He caught the scent of his strech of river and jogged to it. As he arrived he slowly began to drink. When he finished Sand Claw smelled a pair of raptors

"Most were killed by the humans. the few that managed to stay alive, scattered" hissed Ripper, his tone casual, though it was obvious there was pain in the Raptor's gem-like eyes. "As for me...This is the only place we had ever known together. If there's any place I'd ever see them again...it'd be here. I search for them almost constantly, but i always hope they'll return here"...

"I guess raptors other than the ones you knew showing up in your home doesnt help matters, does it?" Aircrest growled, more to himself than the elder, now knowing why he was toyed with. However, he still didnt know why the other raptor had a change of heart. He cocked his head and growled "So, why exactly did you stop..." He trailed off, pausing for a second before muttering "Trying to kill me...?"

Steeltalon suddenly gave a yelp as her head shot up, crimson eyes very wide, pupils pinpoint with terror of some unseen threat. Her flanks heaved as she panted a few times, coming to reality slowly. She was here - not surrounded by the bodies of her family. Safe, not about to be killed. She let out a long breath - and spotted the dark raptor creeping along the streamside. At first she thought - irrationally - that one of Riptide's followers had come out of her dream and was about to murder her. "Don't kill me!" she barked, getting to her feet quickly, and taking a few steps back as she shook her head, trying to wake herself up a little more. "Wh-who are you?" she added as a closer look revealed that this raptor was no mutant, and thus probably wasn't aligned with her tormentor.

Darkness nearly jumped out of his skin at the yelp, now partially hidden by a fern he took refuge behind. "...Leaving, I was just...uh...leaving." he responded hastily to the raptor's question, now quite sure that if it had any nearby packmates, they surely heard the raptor's call for help. Though its question confused the dark raptor...if it was part of a pack, shouldn't it be fleeing to them now?

There was some truly strange things that happened on this island from time to time. One of them was a small T-rex, probably no older then a few years walking without a care in the world. This wasn't too unusual. That is until you considered its 'company' a large, and old Acrocanthosaurus. It was female had scars along its body, added to that there was a old wisdom in their eyes, eyes that had seen a share many of things come and go.

"Don't get too careless small one."

Coldmoon stopped, turning back to their parental figure. "But there's nothing out here."

"Nothing yet. Always be aware of your sorroundings. It's the difference between living and dying when you get older, I can't always be there." Radja corrected, stopping her walk as she sniffed the air. There was nothing too out of the ordinary, potential prey, some other carnivores, what seemed to be some other T-rex.

Then she picked up the scent of a Spinosarus and growled, starting her young charge before she relaxed. "Lets get moving, I suddenly don't like this area."

Sand Claw approached down wind of the raptors to hide his approach. Sand Claw has hated these creatures ever since they drove him from his home."Cant they smell that this is my territory Sand Claw thought. When Sand Claw was within sight of the raptors he gave a low growl of irritation. the raptors weren't far from where he killed the Dryosaurus. Sand Claw thought to himself that stealth wasnt needed anymore. At that moment Sand Claw burst through the trees scattering birds and branches and began to roar loadly...

"Oh. Um, w-well, you don't want to go that way then," Steeltalon growled, still trying to shake off the last clutches of fear. "It becomes impassable. Brambles as thick as the fog in the morning." She turned and nodded in the direction of the game trail. "That way's your best bet. Leads to a pretty well-used game trail. You can find your way anywhere from there."

As Sand Claw Roars the raptors turn to face him. Sand Claw bellows another roar and charges at what looks like the female. she tries to side step but Sand Claw turns his jaws to engulf her. He rips her upward and shakes his head breaking her spine. As Sand Claw drops her he turns to her mate who by now is trapped between a boulder and Sand Claw. Sand Claw grins and says "Your next" and moves forward. the raptor snarls but soon looses his nerve and trys to run but Sand Claw is a step ahead of him and grabs the raptor by the mid section and slams him into a tree. Sand Claw after being victorious Roars sending the birds in the trees aflight.

The elder chuckled lowly at the confusion. "Trying? hardly....Like I said....toying with you" hissed Ripper with a smirk. "As for why I stopped...well, to be quite honest, I felt sorry for you" he explained as he leapt up onto the balcony overlooking the lab, heading through the damaged door...

Aircrest stopped when he heard the answer to his question, his gaze dropping to the floor as the images of the dead Deinonychus flashed in his head. The difference between it and him...was the fact he managed to gain the elder's sympathy? His lips curled, a disgusted feeling washing over him. He had never felt this way before. The only reason the elder even spoke to the black striped raptor was because of pity?!

A low hiss escaped the raptor, his eyes fixed in a glare. He felt a sudden surge of anger, not at the elder, but at himself. "Never again" He thought, making a vow. Never again would another creature take pity on him. He kicked off onto the balcony, his life of running and jumping through the trees making his legs strong and able to pull of incredible leaps. It was something he was proud of about himself. Pride was now driving him to follow the elder, to somehow redeem himself in the old raptor's eyes. He wouldnt be remembered as a raptor who became a hatchling in the face of danger...

Darkness looked the way the other raptor indicated, cursing softly under his breath. If he couldn't follow the stream, he wasn't sure he would find his way back. Turning his attention back to the raptor, he looked her over with a scrutinizing gaze, unsure of her motives. "What's your name?" he asked passively, not used to help from strangers, especially of his own kind, considering what he grew up with...

The half-mutant cocked her head and blinked in slight surprise, but replied after a moment, "My name's Steeltalon. What's yours?" Having been on her own for some time now, she wasn't quite used to being around her own kind - but not being attacked or chased off on sight was actually a nice change of pace.

"Darkness." the dark raptor responded, only then realizing he was still cowering behind the fern, which he swiftly go out of. "That was...quite the dream, eh?" he growled, referring to the other raptor's frenzied wake-up...

"Yeah," Steeltalon said, grimacing for a moment. Without thinking, she added, "Nothing new though." And it wasn't. She was quite used to having violent nightmares like that. The halfbreed paused, regarding the dark male curiously. "So what brings you out here in the first place? There's not much here - except the caves."
