As Bairn neared the village, he noted that the place was oddly silent. usually the clacking and clopping of horse hooves against the ground could be heard, or the steady humm of the villagers' voices as they moved through the village, or the screams and giggles of playing children. was it really that late, that all those sounds were silenced? couldn't be. he could still smell the cooking food in the kitchens of the villagers' homes. that could only be found in the early evening. very strange. As Bairn neared, the silence seemed almost constricting. It fell like a veil over the village, blanketing everything in it's midst. and like a veil, it seemed like it was hiding something. as if it was actually concealing things, hiding them from detection. this was not the silence of sleep. this was something else...
