The brush shifted violently as the lightening arched across the sky, briefly lighting the darkness created by the storm, and irritating what now stalked behind the dragon and its companion, the sounds of soft hoots reaching their ears...

"Right, sorry. I was thinking to much like an assassin just now," Kiara responded to Laura after a moment of silence, before continuing on, "I do have a horse that's outside the kingdom walls so we can make it to our destination faster, though I doubt it's okay..."

"What do you mean?" Laura asks. "You didn't put it in a stable in the city?"

"Not exactly..." Kiara responded, before adding on, "it was my only way of escape for when I killed Draco, but that didn't go out planned like I thought it would..."

Laura nods. "Oh. Well, we can always travel on foot or 'borrow' another one..."

Andruil chuckled at the response, sighing. "Much to the amusement of those of us who know that fact" he said. Shiryaz fluttered overhead, leaping from branch to branch in his hunt for prey and search for threats, the always vigilant hawk never letting his guard down, fiery golden eyes always watching. Andruil reached for one of the satchels strapped to Furax, drawing a skin of water from it, removing the top from it and drinking, being careful to only take enough to sate his thirst, being conscious with water consumption now that that little situation had entered the equation. "You alright Vix? you seem a bit quiet" he asked after a few moments, noting she had been uncharacteristically quiet during his exchange with Arsenic...

amidst the booms of thunder and Septimus' thoughts, he had almost missed the hooting...

almost.

The Dragon froze, cocking his head slightly, his conch-like ears picking up the sound with eerie accuracy, the Dragon scanning psychically, searching for traces of other minds, being careful to avoid Desrium as he did so, not wanting the writhing mass of mental trauma to cloud his senses...

Desrium stopped when Septiums did, looking to the dragon before snapping his body about to look back at the bushes. Most animals would avoid a dragon, and he knew for a fact animals avoided him...unless they were dangerous. He raised his right hand over his head and found the hilt of his blade, drawing it from its sheath. Seconds later he was wielding it with both hands, its jagged edge held out in front of him...

Vix started, distracted from her thoughts as Andruil spoke to her. "I'm fine," she assured with a small smile. "I'm just thinking of our dragon friend. Aviva must be back by now."

Aviva and Zar had indeed reached the half-destroyed village, and a shocked Aviva immediately sent out a searching, desperate thought, refusing to believe it even when she heard it echoing emptily back. "where is he?" she hissed as she circled, looking for a place to land.

Septimus would indeed find the minds of others lurking in the darkness, only in such numbers that would surprise the most stalwart warrior. The creatures had been drawn from their underground homes by the darkening sky, with the dragon and its companion being the first meal in sight. Rustling began to sound all around them as the creatures tried to surround them, a few dark shapes soaring out onto the plains...

All of a sudden, Desrium lost his straight posture, his upper body slumped over somewhat as his grip tightened around the handle of his sword. His eyes were ignited, shining brightly as he eyed the creatures coming towards him. His mouth parted, opening widely as he let out a deep and menacing growl, prepared for battle. The sound would be surprising to anyone accustomed to the quiet disposition he had. In an instant the pleasant and naive being Septimus knew was gone. What had taken his place was a creature driven by instinct, retaining the prowess with the blade...

Laura simply nods and begins to head towards the gates....

Draco seems extremely anxious before he shouts: "GUARDS!"

Two guards approach him almost immediately and bow. "Yes my leige?"

"I want you to tell the captains to have archers on the walls, and ready the footsoldiers! We will need to be ready when Zazikel calls upon us for aid, and those guards on the gate will not hold out anything more than a single battalion at best."

"Yes my leige."

The guards leave to do what Draco requests...

Kiara follows closely behind Laura, hoping that the horse she had come to Draxon on was still where it had been yesterday...

"Desrium....How well do you handle electricity?" growled the Dragon lowly as his eyes began to glow, arcs of bluish white electricity leaping between his horns and down his arms, the runes glowing brightly as lightning lit the sky for an instant, revealing one of the attackers at a distance. this was going to be close...

Desrium replied with a guttural snarl followed by a low rumbling within his throat, lowering his hands and holding the sword so that its sharp edge was pointed to the sky. "I do...not know" Desrium rasped as he was preparing to bring the jagged blade down on the nearest attacker with a powerful overhead swing...

The noise seemed to intensify as the lightening lit up the area around them, the creatures hissing, hooting, and maneuvering into the shadows to avoid the light, the light emanating from Septimus' body causing them to hesitate. One of the creatures seen by Septimus was a grotesque, eyeless beast with a head that had two long stalks on either side, as well as curved, incredibly sharp blade-like appendages both on the top of its head and on its chin, looking like a guillotine. It stood on two legs when it was not flying, and a powerful tail ending in two tips swayed behind it, with a mouth full of dagger-like teeth. The creature, like the others, disappeared into the shadows once more, hooting and hissing loudly as it did.

The Dragon's rumbling snarl reverberated over the occasional sound of thunder, Septimus' eyes scanning the trees as his mind focused, arcs of electricity leaping between his horns and the talons on the 'thumbs' of his now upwards pointing wings, the wings forming a V shape from his body, overhanging Desrium slightly, as Septimus scanned the creatures' minds of information. they were hungry. he and Desrium were prey.....and for some reason, they were avoiding the light. stealth, perhaps? possible. but that didn't matter now. he had to get himself and Desrium out of here alive....and fast...

Desrium's eyes flashed again, flickering red trails akin to flames lingering, illuminating the rain drops that fell around him. He held his sword in front of him, his head turning rapidly as he peered into the darkness, as if his eyes were trying to cast off the shadows so that he could see the creatures...

"You might want to take cover, Desrium...I don't want to hit you accidentally" rumbled the Dragon lowly. he couldn't retreat with so many attackers around him. they'd simply cut him off. and defending himself in mid air posed too much of a risk to Desrium. he would have to engage them on the ground. running wouldn't work. by the speed he was sensing in these creatures they'd run him down. things were looking grim...
