Desrium hit the ground loudly, twisting his blade about as the foot came down on him, the jagged edged sword slicing into its ankle. The terrible weapon tugged and ripped through flesh, damaging the joint itself...

Each sides of the shredded flesh converged on the blade, wrapping around it with fleshy tendrils. As the limb was hoisted up, the blade was ripped from Desrium's hands before disappearing into the mutant's body. "That's enough of that." it growled as the blade appeared in the torso wound, the abomination reaching inside to grasp the weapon...

Desrium stood up, pulling in his breath as he eyed his weapon. His weapon, now surrounded by the disgusting tissue of the mutant. His metal hands clenched into fists as he gazed upon his sword. The only possession he had when he found himself on the Asterian shore. His only companion as he trekked across the grassy plains and through the dark, dense forest. Through sunshine and rain. Day and night. And now it was taken from him.

Desrium's ruby eyes flared, a bright flash of light jumping from his helmet as he let out a deep, guttural bellow that rivaled that of the abomination. His lower jaw trembled as the roar transitioned into a bestial snarl, the armored being's primal nature being called upon almost instantly...

"Your...condition...is now understood." the mutant croaked as it grasped the sword. Fleshy tendrils sprouted from its hand, holding the blade in place, having no intention of giving the armored being its weapon back.

At that, Desrium sprung, kicking off of the sparkling street and clambering onto the mutant, his finger tips tearing into its flesh as his sharp tipped sabatons stabbed into its body, creating footholds with each powerful movement...

The armored being didn't get far before the three tendrils that used to be the Zuppolandian's other arm wrapped around him, prying him off the mutant's body, keeping him suspended in the air a few feet away from the abomination's body. "I see there is no hope of sense. Oh well." the creature croaked dryly, keeping Desrium suspended as it struck the coral again, breaking off another chunk...

as the abomination attacked the barrier, a fireball slammed into the tendril arm, incinerating the tendrils almost instantly as the buzzing flutter of wing membranes shot past overhead, the attacking Dragon disappearing amidst the spires once more, satisfied in having freed Desrium...

Desrium slammed into the ground on all four's, the being displaying incredible flexibility despite the plating covering his form. All at once, Desrium threw himself from the floor and broke into a charge. He leaped onto the abomination once more, one hand clasping the edge of the stomach wound before he hoisted himself upwards again, his other hand swinging about to grip the hilt of his anchored sword...

The mutated Zuppolandian held the hand outward before suddenly pulling back, moving its body forward at the same time, smashing Desrium against the coral as his grip was ripped from the blade, the hand holding which was now over the abomination's head. "Oh, you want the sword, do you?" the mutant asked with a sinister, twisted grin, as the sword was released from the palm of the hand. Jerking the hand even further over its head, the blade was sent soaring toward the center of the arena, where it impaled itself into the ground. The abomination took a step back, releasing the armored being...

Desrium still clung to the ruined flesh of the mutant. He looked up at the abomination, the flickering glow of his eyes meeting the blank orbs of its eyes. Then he rasped "Narmnonga..." Hunger in in the Zuppoland language. A grating roar crawled out of Desrium's maw as he pulled himself up and into the tear in the hulking mutant's body, lunging at the creature's innards thereafter. His eyes flashed brightly as they did when he was in the abyss, illuminating the dark recesses of the abomination, where Desrium's jaws bit and tore repulsive slabs of meat from it. He worked down the flesh greedily, feeling a surge of power with each chomp...

"You wish to have power, pariah?" the abomination laughed as it pulled Desrium away with a newly-spawned tendril of flesh, forcing his arms to his sides, completely unaffected by the damage done to its flesh. "I'll show you power." it snarled, the voice deepening. The hand that formerly held the sword wrapped around Desrium's head, positioned in a way that the armored being's jaws could not bite, as the limb ignited with dark energy, all of which began pouring into Desrium. At first, the armored being would feel renewed. But within moments, the energy reached unbearable amounts, threatening to destroy him from the inside out, and it continued to flow, overwhelming him with its quantity...

The being's red eyes deepened in color, their red hue becoming subdued, dull, then brightening again a startling blue. Azure streaks stretched out from Desrium's eyes, like wispy wings of light. Streaks of orange and purple light began to manifest around the armored being, who let out a muffled growl through the rotted flesh that bound him, before in an instant, the tendrils were blown apart by a burst of magical energy, a terrible howl echoing throughout the area as Desrium freed himself. Pulses of energy struck the ground and blew it apart, while others tore through the mutant, the armored being suspended as the mana expelled itself from his metal coated body...

The mutant Zuppolandian, as if completely unaffected by the energy that destroyed its flesh, smashed another hole in the coral, destroying enough to maneuver through. "Enjoy it while you can, wretch." it growled as it moved through the breech, no matter how much damage its flesh took, it did not stop moving...

"Aba ur eggles!" Desrium yelled from behind the mutant, his voice distorted and deep, demanding the abomination's legs. Seconds later, its legs were engulfed in a magical blast, the limbs practically liquified by the very same energies it had used on the crab. Gaseous streaks of purples and yellows rose from the armored being's jaws, the beam originating from his mouth...

"You...demand?" the mutant croaked, as it seemed to float in place, unmoving despite its lack of lower limbs. "YOU..." a voice seemed to roar across the entire city, many times lower and more bestial then before. "DEMAND?!" the abomination whirled around, its eyes melting under the energy that now engulfed it. With a horrifying roar, a massive shadow formed above the city, looking like a projection from the mutant's very being. All that was visible was four immense, pitch black, spear like legs, the center of which was engulfed in unyielding shadow, only the purple-black glow of the owner's eyes visible within the darkness. "YOU ARE NOTHING MORE THEN A PLAY THING TO ME." the voice roared, originating from the shadow that dominated the cityscape, as Desrium's armor split apart into its various parts, forming an array of metal around where the armored being just was, revealing a vaguely humanoid shape of pure energy. "YOUR LIFE HANGS BY A THREAD, AND IT DANCES AND TWISTS TO MY AMUSEMENT." a black portion of the energy was ripped from the being, arching off into the shadow before disappearing. The energy being was hoisted into the air by something unseen, soon floating a few yards in front of the glaring eyes within the darkness. "I COULD SWALLOW YOUR PATHETIC EXISTENCE WHOLE. BODY AND SOUL, YOU WOULD CEASE TO BE. ALL FOR MY ENTERTAINMENT." the voice continued, the metal components of Desrium's armor soaring up to where the being floated, reassembling itself in an instant, each piece forming the helmet, the chest plate, the gauntlets, before connecting back together to form the whole being once more. With a bestial scoff, the armored being was fired back into the city below, smashing head-first into the ground of the arena, creating a small crater where he landed. The shadow continued to loom over the city, as the mutant Zuppolandian seemed to be in a mix of a seizure and a coma...

Just feet over the ground, Desrium used up the last of his mana reserves, successfully slowing his plummeting descent, but not enough that he could land properly. He fell out of the air with a thump on his back, landing next to his sword. He turned his head, staring into the blade and at himself. His red eyes pulsated as thoughts ran through his mind. He had seen himself. What he truly was beneath his metal shell. He was...something. Something not of this world. Something not natural, bound underneath his ominous armor. He looked up to the towering shadow that loomed over the city and was reminded of his pledge. He now knew what he was. He now had the answers to several of his questions in the short while he had been in Zuppoland. If he perished defending where he was born, so be it...

The armored being staggered to his feet, feeling no better than he had the very first day, expunged from the angry ocean. He wrenched his blade, his first true friend from the sandy street, the cracked appearance of its metal hindering its beauty none. Its irregular edge gleamed crimson with the mutant's blood...

Discord's voice chuckled in Nitsunobue's ear, ignoring the rest of the group. "Finally, someone asks the golden question!"

The darkness finally lessened enough that the group could see, despite the suppressing nature of the mental link, and overall senses that still remained. Every member of the group was alone (except, of course, Andruil, Vix, and Arsenic, as well as the two Extraxl), somewhere in a tangled, eerie forest rendered even more creepy by the cloying darkness. Somehow, the entire group had wound up off the path and in the middle of a forest. Discord's voice boomed in all their heads like an announcer's.

"Welcome to the Shadepines, my friends! Let the game begin! Hahaha!"

With that, the darkness descended ever so slightly once more, and Tetto'eko sighed, looking around. With a tap of his staff against the ground, he hissed, "Time to get this over with, I suppose..."

Anarchy grumbled, having taken over poor Nitsunobue for the time being. He began to burrow in the ground, intent on exitting this prison...

As soon as Nitsunobue's horns so much as tapped the ground to start the burrowing, his mind was wracked with pain as a surge of raw Chaos flowed through his mind like a hot knife through his flesh. Discord hissed in the wyvern's head, "Naughty naughty Anarchy! First rule for you: no burrowing..."

as the mental suppression dropped slightly, the haunting sounds of Shadepines rang out around the group. gurgling calls and screeches seemed to snake their way through the winding, twisting treeline, reaching towards them from all directions, the tired, restless moans of men whose souls had long since departed, reaching out to them eerily. a series of shimmering eyes watched from above. The optimistic of them would explain it off as stars showing through the canopy. But in Shadepines, there was no such thing as light. They had been engulfed in a darkness where the only light that could be found, was that of unnatural sources...

"Damn it" said Andruil under his breath. this forest was a death trap as it was, even without Discord's meddling. Now that the creature had seen fit to imprison them there for it's amusement, things had just gotten a lot more deadly. "Arsenic, Vix...I need you two ready to defend yourselves as best you can" he warned, his sword drawn, the runic patterns on the blade shimmering brightly. a bad sign...

Septimus flew through the city, staring in shock at the massive shadow that had appeared. checking back over the arena, he spotted Desrium rising once more, the Dragon shifting his course, weaving into the towering spires of the city once more...
