Unbeknownst to the green and black raptor, he was being watched from the brush by keen mauve eyes, almost pitch black ovals cutting across them. Attracted by the scent of blood, another Velociraptor made its way from the hills, compelled by hunger. It eyed the green scaled raptor that rested beyond, his shape barley detectable among the swaying cluster of plants he laid behind. Easy prey. The newcomer smelled no territory markers, the telltale sign of a raptor pack. This one was alone...and it seemed to be asleep...
The raptor advanced out from its cover, revealing its dark brown body, several black and white eye spots adorned on its hide. It donned a smirk before making its move, charging forward before lunging towards the sleeping raptor- or so it thought.
Aircrest's eyes shot open at the sound of the attacking raptor's footsteps, catching sight of it as it soared at him, its claws splayed. Reflexively, he kicked at the ground with one leg, sending him tumbling over to the side and through the shrubs surrounding him. The brown predator landed mere inches away with a loud rustling, it spinning about on a heel and kicking into Aircrest's side as he tried to get up, sending him stumbling away. Just as Aircrest regained his balance, the raptor crashed into him, knocking him to the ground and slamming its foot down on his flank. The green raptor's eyes widened as he stared up at the other raptor. For the second time in one day, he stared at what he was certain to be his death. The first encounter was just a joke, a cruel, taunting joke that only delayed the true meeting. The raptor's jaws flew down towards Aircrest's neck, and in that once instant Aircrest knew what he did in the next split second would determine if he lived to see the next morning.
Like lightning, Aircrest's hands shot out, claws finding their way into the side of the raptor's head, digging in around its ears. It let out a horrible screech of pain as its momentum drove the claws towards its neck, not cutting through flesh, but rather being forced down and worsening the damage as the wound was widened. The brown raptor pulled back, Aircrest's claws slashing through its face before finally slipping out, stained red. It howled with pain and surprise, its neck exposed. How Aircrest wished he could run now, but he was still pinned by the raptor. Even now it was keeping constant pressure on his side, making it difficult to breathe. Relying on his instincts, Aircrest swung a clawed hand about, slashing its throat. That did the trick, as the predator staggered backwards, grasping at the wound. Aircrest wasn't sure how deep it was, or if it would drive off his attacker. Fueled by adrenaline and driven by instinct, Aircrest rolled onto his feet and dashed at the brown raptor, bashing himself into it and sending it to the ground. The creature looked up at him with shock and fury, unable to put together a statement. It was simply gasping furiously as it tried fruitlessly to say something. Its efforts quickly ended when Aircrest stomped down on its head, driving it to the dirt. That blow caught it by surprise. He stomped down again, that blow jarring its neck. Another, his claws slicing across its snout. Once more, and a crack signified the end of Aircrest's attacker. In the moments after, he simply stared down at the vanquished raptor, trembling once more as blood dripped from his clawed hands. The images of the dead Deinonychus in the lab appeared in his mind, its gaze blank and its throat slit. He had killed one of his own kind. The realization hit him harder than any blow he felt during the short fight. He looked up at the raptor as prey, then suddenly became the hunter in a fraction of a second. Was this another instance of survival? The strong live until they were weak...and this raptor just happened to be weak at the most pivotal moment? Its blood was spreading out from the gash on its neck, pooling around Aircrest's feet now. The wound must have been deep after all. The green raptor's eyes clouded over as he peered down at the corpse. His fears of his fellow raptors were not misplaced after all.
