Returning fire in the form its own magic, the demon swung its trident out from cover, the jagged edges of the middle prong projecting barbs of bright purple energies at Makkus. At the same time, it called forth the rest of the vile substance from the singed and frayed chute, the liquid spilling out freely and spreading across the chamber's floor...

"There have been only a few individuals he has reacted to like that, though most of the time he simply tolerates the customers. In this case, I can't really blame him, considering you're a...well..." Syria trailed off when she was outside of the library door. She seized the opportunity to change the subject. "Ah, well 'we're' here" she thought, opening the single door at the end of a corridor decorated with paintings of the countryside and mountainous peaks. The door was deceiving, one would assume it led into a guest room, but instead it was the entryway into a huge hall-turned-library. Large shelves of high quality timber separated the room into rows. Bracing against each row was a small table with some form of decoration, be it stone talismans the inn keeper came across in her travels or small figurines of the most mundane to the most outlandish. On the first bookshelf there was a portrait of a man late in his life, yet wearing gear fit for a mountain climber, standing in front of the Daaven lake. He had a thick brown hide coat on with white fur lining his long sleeves and hood. His pants looked very much the same and were held up with a broad black belt with loops and pockets holding a variety of objects. Hanging just past his chest was a brass compass, the initials "S.L" visible in the painting...

"I agree" Desrium said plainly. He returned the stares the guards were giving him and his friend unwavering and unmoving until one of them near the back of the ranks called out "Are you here to meet a dragon named Septimus?"
"No" the Blood Omen replied. "We came to spread a message. But if Septimus is here then I suppose we can meet him as well" he added, glancing to Jiier

Jiier blinked, rather surprised to hear Septimus had already been there. Even more surprising was the apparent effectiveness of Desrium's message on the cave wall. The simian remained silent, still eyeing the guards warily from under his hood.

The guards looked at each other, exchanging silent words before nodding. "Very well then" the guard said, the group parting to either side of the road. The single man still standing in the middle gestured for the two to follow him. "Come along then, he's right this way" the guard said, turning around and walking down the road. The clinking of chains became audible again as the gateway rumbled into closing...

After a quick glance at the guards on either side, Jiier followed after their new guide, hoping the rest of the city wouldn't be this tense.

Vix followed, glancing around once outside. "I'll have to remember to tell travelers that stop at the inn about this place," she said, cocking her head as she heard Zar's distinctive greeting call from a distance away, slightly distorted. Perhaps he'd been hunting and made a fine catch for himself and his mate...

Zar had indeed been hunting, though having never been this far from where the Extraxl made their home, he didn't recognise the creatures he'd caught. They smelled safe enough to eat, however, and as he tucked in his wings and came in for a smooth landing beside Aviva, he dropped both of the bodies he carried and nudged them toward her. "For you," he growled. "We'll both need our strength for the flight back." The dark-scaled female leaned down to sniff the dead creatures before looking back at Zar. "Have you already eaten?" she asked. He nodded, settling down where he stood, glad of the chance to rest his wings for a bit. "It took me a while to find enough to feed us both," he replied, ducking his head apologetically. "I would have been back sooner if I knew the land. Go on; eat." He nudged his kills toward her again. Aviva ducked her head and pinned one body down with a clawed foot, tearing into its stomach cavity. The scent of the kill made Zar's mouth water, but he'd already eaten, and wouldn't try to take a share of her food. As she ate, he caught a familiar scent - Arsenic had been here, recently by the smell of it. Catching up with an old friend, I suppose, Zar thought. Thus far, he liked what he'd seen of the mute elf - Arsenic was a good fighter, quick to react, and he trusted his instincts. His telepathic abilities unnerved the red dragon a bit though. Though the Extraxl were born with strong natural mental defenses, to protect their kind's secrets and their own minds, they did not have the ability to reach out and sense another creatures' mind or other things the way Arsenic seemed to be able to. It was a silent weapon, and the elf was clearly well used to using it, to the point where it seemed to be second nature to him. Zar knew that if one made an enemy of him, they faced a battle on two fronts - mental and physical. it was not an idea he liked to think about for too long.

Byakuren didn't seem to respond to Arashi's insult in any real negative way. While it did look like all these forces were needed just to take down Smaug, the truth of the matter was, she could have easilly taken on Smaug by herself. She had done it before, and she could have done it again. She had tried to tell this to Trajan and Dione last night, but both insisted that they need all their forces, hence the situation looking far more pathetic than it really was. And truth be told, she had also heard the voice, but had set it aside to deal with Arashi. "You have yet to give your name out. I am Byakuren, the ever youthful mage who has travelled far and wide for the past 15 years..."

Makkus brought up an icy barrier, the demon's magic splashing against the wall of frost harmlessly, before the barrier was unleashed against the Demon in the form of a freezing wave, which struck the bile-spewing pillar, freezing it and it's contents solid. Meanwhile, with the demon distracted with the Vindicator, Tacitus siezed his opportunity, his enchanted claymore swinging powerfully into the demon's coiled flank, a wave of cleansing energy pulsing through the blade and into the creature...

The Dragon's interest was captured by the sight of all the books on the shelves, eager to see what the library had to offer, his attention being captured by the painting, and in particular a certain detail in the painting. I've seen that compass before murmured Septimus' voice in Syria's head as she looked at the painting. Your father? he added...

"Thorgrim's an excellent smith...but make sure you tell your friends his services don't come cheap. Only reason we could get all this was because of the fact Valenhad is funding it. the bows alone may well cost as much as the Gryphons I purchased earlier today" explained Andruil as he walked, catching the sound of the Dragon in the distance. It seemed they were almost ready. The City's stables had been paid to deliver Furax to the Valenhadian Royal Palace earlier that morning, so now all that remained was to find Andruil, gather their equipment, and fly for the Assassin's Village...

"My name is one that hasn't been known to mortal souls in over three thousand years" rumbled Arashi lowly as he halted his circling, hovering before the beings before him, his vast wings kicking up a dusty gust of wind around them, the long, sprawling form of the Stormweaver easily seen at this angle. "One would think that being locked away for a thousand years would be sufficient justification for a demon like yourself to avoid advertising your demonic taint. I wonder if those bishops you spoke out against know" rumbled the Hueilin magus with a smirk. "Mortals knew me as the Stormweaver. That should suffice, if you really must have a name to know me by" sighed the Dragon finally...

Yellow stained teeth parted in a pained bellow and the demon's tail unfurled, wrapping around the Archknight in one fluid motion and swinging the blade at the end into his side, cutting through robe and armor alike. The demon then swung Tacitus around so that he was in plain view of Makkus, the demonic trident held threateningly over him...

"Sylias Letant. Its no coincidence that I have the same initials as him- um, where exactly did you see the compass before?" asked the inn keeper as she stepped in between the first two rows of shelves, running her gaze along the spines of decorated books, their hard, leather covers varying immensely in color and textures. Some were pebbly, almost scaly while others were smooth. Some were even decorated with furs and stripes. Hoped one title would catch her visitor's attention...

As the guard led the dragon and Blood Omen down the street, the inn not too far off, he asked "You said you have a message back at the gate? What kind of...message?"

Tacitus gasped in pain as he drew a dagger from his hip, swinging it across the Demon's throat as it shook him, as simultaneously, Makkus slammed the base of his staff into the ground, jagged ice spikes shooting up out of the ground, formed from the moisture of the soil of the coastal village, the spikes ripping up into the Demon's hide, impaling a fair portion of the pestilent monstrosity's slithering form...

"My friend Desrium was wearing it around his neck. The knight that came through here a few days ago" answered Septimus honestly. He had taken note of it around the Blood Omen's neck since their second meeting, after Desrium had most likely visited Daaven. It was not difficult to notice in light of the contrast against the mostly dark armour that encased the being...

Gurgling laughter escaped the demon, as did its putrid bodily fluids, the ice spikes melting away as the destructive sludge that was its ichor seeped out, the gash on its throat dripping the searing, discolored liquid onto Tacitus. Indeed, the demon's own blood was used as the slime-weapons against Makkus. With a vicious snarl, the demon rammed the base of its trident into the Archknight's midsection, the small blade at the end glowing purple as the degrading energies flowed directly into the hunter. It then released its grip on Tacitus, its bloodied tail blade painful wrenching itself free of his body as it flicked the Archknight off of its weapon and sent him flying into his Vindicator ally...

"Ah ha...Desrium didn't mention he was friends with a dragon..." Syria replied. "Makes me wonder what other things he...'forgot' to mention" she added jokingly. "Did you see anything of interest? Or should I go to the next row?"

"Bad tidings, huh?" The guard said thoughtfully with a hand on his chin. "That doesn't sound good at all..."
"I would believe that is why it is called bad tidings" Desrium stated simply. "...Right. Well, what ever it is, you can tell Urlox and he'll take it up with the Daaven council. If its as serious as you say it is, then he should have no trouble getting action from the others. He's with your friend and your friend is-" the guard said, stopping as he saw Septimus standing just outside of the inn. "...Your friend is over there..." he finished, trying to spot Urlox...

Makkus raised a hand forward, a cushion of kinetic energy forming to slow his friend's form as he was hurled at the Vindicator, setting him down to the side before swinging the staff forward, a volley of three fireballs exploding from the tip of the staff in a streak of white light, bright enough to light up the room, the fireballs swirling and swerving as though they were being guided towards their target, colliding with the Demon's form in a significantly powerful explosion, the ground beneath the abomination rumbling violently as the Vindicator began reciting verses in an ancient tongue. Tacitus heaved himself to his feet, coughing up blood and spitting it aside, his hand glowing as he worked to cleanse and clean the wound, making use of his friend's distraction of the beast...

You obviously never asked. He has a tendency to leave out details he isn't asked about. I speak from experience responded Septimus with a chuckle as he glanced across the shelves through the girl's eyes. Do you have any books on Demonology?...

In the wake of the detonations, the pained snorting and grunting was audible. From the clearing the smoke, the demon was seen convulsing on the ground, its body charred. Its degraded flesh stood no chance against the purging flames, and large holes were gouged into its diseased body. Its trident glowed bright purple again as the pools of its ichor were launched at Makkus at high speeds to break his offensive while it raised itself again...

Syria was shocked at the question and replied "I have a few books that briefly touch on the subject, but nothing concrete. The official Daaven Library hardly has anything magically oriented at all. Its a pity really, my father was one of Daaven's founders, and he always supported the spirit of exploration. As far as I know, I'm the only one here willing to explore what magic has to offer"

a stream of flames was unleashed upon the oncoming ichor, utterly destroying it before it reached the Vindicator. a jagged stone spike burst from the ground under the convulsing demon, lifting it into the air as the mage's fiery onslaught continued, the Vindicator whittling away it's power as he prepared to bind it...

A pity. I'm very much interested in knowledge of a magical nature. What of books on mythology and legend? I would very much like to see them, if you wouldn't mind said Septimus, as he sensed the approach of another of his kind. More specifically....Jiier. It appears Desrium and his current travel companion are here. I'd best tend to them. Would you mind bringing the books, if you have them? he said, his tone somewhat distant, the Dragon's head turning to face Jiier and Desrium as they approached, a small smile gracing the Dragon's features...

Byakuren was caught off guard by Arashi's words, and her eyes widened in shock. She took a single step back, trying to comprehend how this dragon knew of her past. This has got to be a joke, a really, really bad joke. There's no way he could know... No way at all. It doesn't make any sense. I told no one here of my past, no one. Were the mage's thoughts, still reeling from the shock of it. She tried to think back, back to before she had come to Aster, before she had been sealed away by those who had been afraid of her, but she still knew there was no way he could have known about not only her identity as a demonic witch, but her being sealed away for a thousand years. There was no possible way for any human, or for this Stormweaver to know that... No possible way...

Around her, the soldiers were also caught off guard. Such a friendly magician who had volunteered her services, a demon? To them, who had grown used to the ranting and ravings of the bishops that all demons were evil, it was near incomprehendable. They had thought that, the reason for her supposed agelessness despite her works in the past 15 years was due to some potion or something, which was in truth what Byakuren had hoped they would think.

To Guame and Djinn, and also to Smaug, who was still trying to get the clamp off his mouth in vain, they all knew from the scent that she was a demonic witch. TO Guame especially, he had meet a few times, those magicians whose power in the magical arts had risen to the point that they became demons. In appearance, they looked identicle to humans, but their scent gave them away. To most demons, the scent of a demonic witch was too similar to that of a human to notice, but those with exceptional senses of smell could tell the diffrence rather easilly. But for the Stormwaver to know so much of Byakuren's history... Guame could only come up with one possible conclusion, and the most logical one for such a magical dragon... he had read her mind, simple as that...

With one final roar, the demon of pestilence and decay fell limp upon the the rocky stake that bore through its flesh and chitin. It wrapped around the spike in its last moments, the trident falling from its grip and the three prongs embedded themselves in the ground. The decay around the walls- while already restrained by the white flames of purity- receded into nothingness, the stone walls of the chamber being revealed for the first time...walls that began grinding against the floor as the unnatural chasm began to close. The demon's claim in the mortal plane perished upon its defeat, escaping before the crypt sealed itself was a race against time...

"I'll get my best ones" Syria promised, perusing the shelves by their categories.

"Did things go well?" Desrium asked Septimus as he neared the Hueilin, referring to his outing with the elder dragon back to their home. The guard, meanwhile, edged around the silver and black dragon, knocking on the inn doors. He could have sworn he heard the snarl of a Frondfoot behind the elegant doors, followed by the rapid, retreating tapping of its claws against hardwood. "Perioul? Syria? Are you in there?!" the guard shouted as he knocked repeatedly. "Hold yer damn horses!" replied the muffled voice of Urlox, the captain of the guard opening the door to look at the guardsman and the two arrivals. "Ah! Desrium! And you got yourself some new clothes!" he said heartily to the Blood Omen, though he arched an eyebrow when he realized the robe was worn over his armor. "And who are you, then?" he asked the shape-shifter...

"Good point," Vix murmured. She rolled her shoulders and cracked her neck. "Come on; I'm sure Arsenic is back by now." She quickened her step, eager to get home. As much as she might have liked to stay under different circumstances, the village needed them. The guild needed to get to work recruiting new members to make up for the strength it had lost. The initiates popped into her head - were there enough of them? A thoughtful frown touched her expression.
