Soon, the group entered the valley once more. It was much eerier in the shadows- visibiltiy was fairly low, with the bones of creatures unfortunate enough to fall into the canyon being barely visible, and the collapsed rock formation that had been destroyed in order to escape the sludge monster was hard to make out in the artificial darkness. Within the dark mass, the sensors on the APC had begun picking up the high amount of rift energy- almost to the point of the beeping being deafening. Soon, however, the scanners picked up something else- 2 smaller pings that soon appeared on the scanned map- both were within the cave the group was gonig to have to head into to find the probe. One was completely dormant, and probably the probe. The other, however... the other was something. Something mobile. As the group soon arrived at the entrance to the cave containing the probe, Damian soon spoke into the communications relay to warn Dietrich and the private.

"We've arrived at our destination, gentlemen," Damian said into the relay. "Watch yourselves, of course. There's some sort of anomaly within the cave. Hopefully, we will find the probe quickly, but if not, we'll need to keep our heads low."

Damian soon turned to Rebin and Yukari.

"Alright guys- let's head out!" Damian shouted, as he rose out of his chair and readied his grenade launcher...

"Let's carry out this expedition somewhere where Twitchy isn't so...temperamental, shall we?" Kane said, handles folding out from the ship's paneling for the two to hold onto as it began to rise into the air. From the still-open entrance, Kane saw the black scaled beast, its flesh peeling away from its exposure to acid, bright red muscle and glimmering silver strands visible. The Metal Muncher thudded through alleyways, stomping through the spaces in between buildings and bowling over rusted fences. The saurian creature was in the midst of a charge right toward the Felicity when the three-engine craft tore off into the sky, screeching away from the damaged monster which roared at it from below...

Readying their own weapons, Both Yukari and Rebin prepared up. The first of the two probes was here... their original mission was now within the halfway stretch. To be this close to what they had come here for, and yet with something else there... they had to be cautious. The last thing they needed was for a casualty, or for the probe to be destroyed by the ensuing tussle, which knowing how everything else in the rift wanted them dead, seemed far more likely than not...

As the Streitaxt slowed to a halt, it transmitted an updated virtual map to both Dietrich and Private, acting as their scanners, marking all objects of interest, anomalies and threats, living and otherwise, as well as marking the location of the suspected probe...

Dietrich had soon outfitted himself with the gear he needed, making his way towards the airlock...

"Agreed" responded Jacob approvingly. He would rather leave the place for something less dangerous and more likely to be related to their tethers, but he said nothing on that count, as there was still significant Rift energy signatures, and there was, as yet, no guarantee a tether DIDN'T exist here.

Private was over the Streitaxt's railing and sliding down the vertical beams of a ladder when the first of the Rift storm reached the convoy. Through the dark veil, Private's advanced optics sensor was able to distinguish the clouds sprawling overhead. They were discolored, a deep purple blanket that had bursts of light going off inside, spilling out over the landscape. The pressing darkness became a very light gray fog -almost white and mostly opaque- in the presence of the storm, which had a deep growling ambiance to it. The sound of distant thunder, except sustained and constant. Residual energy signatures skyrocketed substantially as the storm roared on overhead, streaks of green snaking above the valley, dust rising from the dead ground...

Damian soon stepped off of the APC, his scanners on high alert as he gestured for Yukari and Rebin to follow. The static that his scanners were making from the sheer amount of rift energy was incredible; it trully was impressive to think that the rift was able to generate such high concentrations of rift energy. But at the same time, it scared him to think about it.... perhaps the rift itself had not generated this darkness field, but something the rift PRODUCED had become strong enough to generate such fields. Damian approached the cave slowly, and could hear what he thought was the sound of gunfire within it. Damian was extra cautious now... gunfire was never a good sign...

The hatch on the Streitaxt soon hissed as it parted and unfolded, allowing the Commander to descend from the war machine. His gasmask covered his features, the golden glare of the mask's lenses reflecting off the surface of the nasal area and off the brim of his hat. Assault Rifle slung across his chest and sword hilt positioned right under his hand in it's sheath on his belt, the Commander resting his hand on it. A final diagnostics test was conducted through his built in comm systems ensuring that all networks were online, including those connecting him to the controls of the tank. He could now operate it remotely, meaning that, should he require support, he could have the tank intervene at any time. Considering the horrific storm above, and the constant noise of what looked like an infinate roar of rolling thunder, the unnatural lightning lancing through it and the gunfire he could detect even through that, he knew that odds are he would need the support at some point. "Let us be quick und thorough. Ve don't vant to stay long enough to give the inhabitants time to find us" stated Dietrich through the comms as he made his way towards the cave...

Following behind Damian, Yukari lef tthe APC first, followed by Rebin. Gunfire... whatever was in there certainly wasn't friendly. They had to be prepared for whatever it was. But this darkness... If whatever was in there was the cause of it... they both had a bad feeling about this.

The storm continued to rumble overhead, unnatural streaks of lightning lancing across the sky, thunder shaking the area with its ethereal might. Damian turned to Dietrich, and gave him a quick nod in agreement with his plans, before he approached the mouth of the cavern, taking extra precautions to not alert whatever lay within. His scanners came to life, allowing him to have a clear, albeit strange and digitized, image of the caverns before him. The sounds of gunfire echoed out from the cavern'es opening, along with shouts in some unknown language... possibly a derivative of the russian language that the inhabitants of this cavern created, due to their assumed isolation from "the motherland"....

"Be advised: anomalies may appear do to increased Rift activity. Do not separate from each other," said Private. He followed the group from the rear, looking towards the ground they already covered as they advanced on the cave. His sights would detect from afar and his gun's range was more than commendable. While anything attacking from the front would be dispatched by the guns of the others, he would make sure nothing could get the jump on them. Not even in the oppressive fog did the denizens of this accursed plane have a place to hide...

Dietrich advanced slowly, carefully, but without sacrificing their limited time. The Streitaxt secured the area outside the caverns. Anything foolish enough to so much as look the wrong direction would find itself obliterated instantly. Meanwhile, as the group entered the cavern, Dietrich took note of the language being spoken in the distance within, heard amidst the gunfire within the cavernous structure. "Scheiße..." cursed Dietrich under his breath. The language he was picking up, though barely audible, carried traces of a language he despised, however distorted it may have been...."Russians" he said, voicing his hatred for them with one, venomous word. If there was one thing he had been pleased about with his unintended exile, it was the assumption that he would never encounter those barbarians again...it seemed he had been quick to celebrate...

Yukari and Rebin passed a glance at each other as they heard the shouting from the cave. while they were unfamiliar with the language they were hearing, from what Dietrich had said, it was apparently some form of russian... which means the cave inhabitants were human, and whatever they were firing at definitely wasn't human friendly... With their weapons readied and following behind Damian, they were set.

"Russians, yes. But I don't think they are the ones we know, Commander Dietrich," Private said, panning his battle rifle from side to side as he crept along with the others. Despite him adding to the conversation, his highly trained focus never left his watch. "The accent is off completely, word agreement is completely foreign to me. If anything this group is like these three, from an entirely different dimension with an entirely different history to our own."

"I am avare...but the fact that they are here means they most likely are the dominant force in their timeline...und they most likely vill be heavily armed" responded Dietrich. It was this fact that had him on edge. Though his own clash with Neo-Soviet rebels ended in their destruction, it had come at startling cost. And those rebels were using guerrilla tactics and inferior weaponry. The thought of a Russian force with properly funded military equipment was one he did not like to think about...

"Then I would suggest establishing amiable relations at the first opportunity presented to us, Commander," Private replied. "If not, I shall provide stealth support should they prove unreasonably hostile."

"Well, if we're gonna try and establish peace with them," Damian said, butting in to the private and Dietrich's conversation, "I'd suggest hiding anything that affiliates you with the Nazis. I'm sure that they won't take too kindly to a nazi, even a former one, entering their territory..."

As the group began to trudge into the cavern, the sounds of gunfire overwhelming their eardrums, Damian noticed the eldritch fog appeared to be within the cave as well. As he glanced up to the west, his scanners noted a large cloud of rift energy gathered there- why this was so, he did not want to know. Unfortunately, he also discovered that the probe's signal was originating from that direction, leading Damian to assume that it must be in the Neo-soviet camp. Great- not only was there some monster in here, but now their probe was in hostile-

*squish*

A loud squelching sound was audible beneath Damian's boots. Despite his gut instincts telling him to not, the explorer couldn't resist looking down at the floor to see the source of the sound. He immediately regretted it. All across the floor, a strange, liquidy substance was splattered. His scanner's image was fairly poor, only giving a rough image of its appearance, but to him, it resembled some form of meat. The fact that uniforms also littered the floor didn't make the mental image any better. Damian turned towards the others, and spoke.

"... make sure to not look down," was all Damian said, as he continued on through the cavem sensors on high alert

"So our 'hosts' are no longer a problem. Good. Now ve only need to vorry about carving a path to the probe vithout falling to the same fate" said Dietrich in a shocking calm. He was no stranger to sickening amounts of gore. His background was laced with it. Despite the calm though, it was obvious by how firmly he held the slide on the underside of his assault rifle that he had no qualms with using excessive force if a significant threat made itself known. Question was...would he even have that chance...

"This is..." Rebin was at a loss for words as he moved amongst the grimsley remains. Whatever had killed these men like this was up ahead, fighting the survivors. To think that something could have done this... he tried his best to ignore it and simply followed Damian. Yukari as well merely ignored it, not really minding the meat and gore around her. After her trip into the Nazi base and what she had seen there... this lost any real shock and gross value on her.

As the group entered the darkness-shrouded remains of the russian encampment, the soudns of gunfire now being nearly nonexistant, the scene that unfolded before them was similar to what had been at the German base. However, there was something odd about the whole scene- there was a strange lack of destruction. The machine gun sentries seem to have been deactivated, for they hung lifelessly above the gates of the Neo-Soviet stronghold. The numerous lights that stretched along the stronghold's battlements were busted; perhaps the darkness was interfering with their functionality? In addition, many of the vehicles within the fortress seemed to be in perfect condition, as if they had been untouched by whatever had invaded the fortress. But obviously, the menace had been through here, and recently, for shredded uniforms and the goopy remains of the stronghold dwellers littered the grounds of the fortress. Damian picked up the Probe's signal- it appeared to be somewhere within the interior of the fortress. However, the anomaly was in there as well, albeit deeper within it.

Damian grumbled, and attempted to activate the flashlight on his shoulder, but something odd happened. His flashlight activated for about 5 seconds, before it fizzled out automatically, as if something was interfering with it.

"The hell? Damian inquired to himself, before he turned towards the others. "Anyone got a working flashlight....?"

"You lack extra vision sensors? Back ups?" Private inquired. He was going to ask about how such a nonsensical scene could have occurred... the soldiers in the base reduced to nothing but giblets and plastered across the floor, but their equipment remaining just fine -excluding the lights- and the probe being fully functional. It pointed to a very specialized Rift anomaly; something adept at targeting organic forms of life. The sludge? No... that thing was indiscriminate in its destruction, incorporating the inanimate along with its atrocious undead spawn...
