"That's assuming, for a moment, that he knows. He seemed distinctly lost and confused from what little I've seen. Let alone the fact I don't think he quite trusts us enough to tell us anything yet" purred Shadowsoul as he glanced over towards the entrance, noting the two loners walking into the camp, escorted by Firestreak towards the medicine den. "Ah, they're here. With more cobwebs, I see" growled the tom as he chuckled...

"Firestreak," Mistpool purred, giving Eli an apologetic look. "Just a moment," she murmured to her young patient as she stood and padded forward to greet her Clanmate and the other two cobweb-covered cats. "Is that Tiberium and Ferallion with you?" she added, startled and delighted to see their usually seasonal guests here - covered in cobwebs no less. Concern edged its way into her expression as the smell of blood reached her. Had they been fighting?

Shadowstar blinked a few times, surprised by the appearance of the brothers. "So I see," she meowed, turning to Shadowsoul. "But, what are they doing here so early in the year?"

"It is," Firestreak replied with a short nod. "They've been out collecting cobwebs for you, apparently."

The corners of Tiberium's mouth dipped downwards when he noticed Mistpool's worrisome features emerging. He did not want to distract her from the patient she had already, much less add more stress and work for her to deal with. He debated saying something to ease her, perhaps a joke. "Has it been that long that you don't recognize us? Or is it the webs?" He was pensive about it, suspecting that the medicine cat would be astute enough to figure out his reason for speaking up just then, and when she did it would only validate her worry that he tried to downplay his injuries.

So Tiberium remained in uncomfortable silence, locked in rigid pose. His brother, in contrast beside him, was far more relaxed - almost aloof - about the whole thing.

"I was too preoccupied to ask at the time, I'm afraid. Though if I had to chance a guess, it'd be that something forced them to run afoul of a Windclan patrol, and that we were the safest ones to go to after that" purred Shadowsoul...

"Is everything alright?" Mistpool mewed, her worried frown deepening in the silence as she stretched out her neck to touch noses with the brothers in greeting. She flicked her tail, beckoning Silverpaw forward to help her start peeling the cobwebs away, running a trained eye over them as the medicine cats began to work to try and gauge where their wounds were and how severe the damage.

Shadowstar gave a low, thoughtful purr. "It seems likely," she mewed. "WindClan have been jumpier than fleas since the rogues attacked, with good reason. But it doesn't explain what Tiberium and Ferallion were doing on WindClan land in the first place, if they were at all..." She tucked her nose into her chest fur, thinking deeply for a few moments, then looked back up and meowed, "Perhaps Mistpool will find out while she's untangling them."

"It's just been a long day," Tiberium replied, turning his frown into a smile for the medicine cat. "Should've went with the dumb joke," he mused. He looked over to Ferallion and the gray cat looked at him, cocking his head questioningly. "And Ferallion doesn't really say much at all," Tiberium continued to say, waving a paw casually as he spoke. "Except for that one time with Shadowstar... that was strange."

"Assuming she doesn't get tangled in that web of confusion Ferallion likes to take with him wherever he goes" purred Shadowsoul with a chuckle...

"I remember," Mistpool purred with a touch of amusement, pulling a particularly big web from Tiberium's flank. "So, what brings the two of you here so early, anyway?"

Shadowstar chuckled softly. "Indeed." She cast a glance at the nursery, wondering if she even had time to check on Swanfeather before she'd need to poke her head into the medicine den.

Tiberium opened his mouth to answer, but his brother's low growl behind him stopped him before he could get a single syllable out. Looking out from the corner of his vision, he could see that Ferallion's earlier puzzlement had become steely focus. "Of course... this is what he was waiting for."

"We... require your... insight," Ferallion said, carefully constructing his statements. Had he lacked the restraint he possessed, he would have demanded that the medicine cat tell him all that she knew about Mothermouth and the strange stone that lay within it forthright. But the tom, to his credit, managed to keep a veil over how excitable he truly was about the subject. Even if it was only a thin one, as evident by him cutting into the conversation as he did.

Mistpool's ears pricked with interest. "On what?" she mewed, tipping her head to one side. Leaving Silverpaw to finish up with Tiberium, she moved to start peeling the cobwebs from Ferallion's pelt.

Tiberium laid down on his stomach so that Mistpool's apprentice could work unobstructed, taking the opportunity to close his eyes and collect himself. He knew Ferallion would not take too well to having another cat cleaning his pelt, but imagining his brother containing his impulses in order to get the information he wanted amused him on some deep unspoken level. Their relationship was one where jokes and teasing was sparse, so humor at one another's expense was a rarity. It was difficult, what with Ferallion's often blunt and analytical nature. Tiberium learned from a very early age that it was best that he just enjoyed the fleeting occasions whenever they occurred.

The corner of the gray tom's mouth twitched and his easy going demeanor went as rigid as a stone in a fraction of a second. "He is enjoying this," he thought grimly, looking down at his brother without moving his head. Tiberium had just demonstrated why silence did not work in his favor. Ferallion knew this fact for years. As such, he knew that Tiberium was reaping his discomfort for all it was worth. Resisting the urge to growl again, he said to Mistpool in a valiant attempt to keep composed: "There are other cats that speak of... something called Mothermouth, and that... the clans' medicine cats... possess special knowledge of it...?"

Mistpool's paws slowed in their work for just a moment as she stiffened in surprise. "That we do," she meowed, cocking her head and forcing herself to keep working. "The other medicine cats and I go there every half-moon." While her tone was calm and collected as ever, her mind was working at full tilt. Why were the brothers interested in Mothermouth?

Ferallion's eyes widened at the mention of the moon. For a tiny instant, it appeared that he had gotten past the fact Mistpool was fishing out strand upon strand of spider silk from his fur. "Going in under the sun was a mistake," he realized then. His head snapped around to look the she-cat dead in the eyes and Ferallion meowed, "Why every half-moon?" in a way a youngster thirsty for knowledge would.

Mistpool shrugged. "I'm not sure how it was decided when the medicine cats should meet," she admitted. "I can only guess it was because the half-moon is as recognizable as the full." She carefully teased out a stubborn web, trying not to break or waste any of the threads. "There wouldn't be much confusion over what night we would need to go."

Ferallion nodded eagerly at this. "Then the phase of the moon does not matter, as long as it is in the sky," he hypothesized. "I have also heard of a... stone, somewhere within Mothermouth. What do you know about it?" he inquired shortly after.

Mistpool considered her words carefully, measuring each one before she spoke. "If you're talking about the stone that shines like countless stars, then that's what we call the Moonstone," she mewed. "It's our connection to our ancestors."

Ferallion recoiled slightly at what Mistpool called - what he understood to be - a dull chunk of rock, only accessible by traversing a dark, winding labyrinth that was also made of rock, although admittedly a different kind. He narrowed his eyes and looked off into the corner of the den as he thought, "The stories did not include these details." Had he and Tiberium known this, they would have postponed their "pilgrimage" to that night, perhaps avoiding the Windclan incident in its entirety. "But we now know what it is we have to do because of it," Ferallion told himself. "The presence of night will not be of any difficulty."

"It... shines?" Ferallion said aloud, looking at Mistpool once more. "Why? How? And to whom?" he asked, his snout inching closer to her's with each question.

"There's no other way to describe how it looks when the moonlight hits it," Mistpool meowed, slightly confused by the sudden urgency to the questions. She blinked a few times and went on, "I don't know how - but one can dream with StarClan there."

Ferallion froze, just a few whiskers' length away from the medicine cat. He looked contemplative as he repeated what he was told in his head, his gaze to the ceiling. He then closed his eyes and nodded. He put some space between himself and Mistpool and opened them again, the wild edge they had not even a minute ago absent in his sights. "How very interesting," he said in his usual manner, sounding almost bored.
