"KEEP MOVING!" yelled Dietrich at the others, who had seemingly stopped in their tracks at the abduction of Private, all the while continuing his stream of white hot plasma rounds, looking like a beam of light into the darkness as he tracked the monstrosity with his sensors, communication attempts with Private failing as a result of severe interference on Private's end. Desperate to get through, the Commander rerouted some of that interference through the Wustenfuchs, using it as a proxy to decrease the load on Private's own systems in hopes of getting some kind of result...

"Get... out of my... head..." Private's mental voice drowned in the static -in the energy that coursed through him. He should be dead, no man could have survived such sustained stress to the most vital organ in the body.

But Private was no man, was he? He was changed forever by his exposure to the Rift... and that same exposure was the reason he was still alive. In pain -no, pain wasn't accurate enough to describe what he felt. He was in an anguish he believed only the most rotten of souls would feel in purgatory, where they were prepared for whatever would greet them in hell.

But he hadn't done anything in his life worse than what he was ordered to do. He hadn't even killed his fellow man, something a solider could only dream of saying. Was that his sin? Having a clear conscience while many of his old comrades pleaded for cleansing of their guilt?

"GET... OUT... OF MY HEAD."

The pain was making him angry. No... not angry. Furious. He wanted it to stop, he didn't deserve this.

"I'LL MAKE IT STOP!" he roared, his voice distorted off in the shadow... but it was not the veil's doing. No... there was something else at work within the young sniper.

"GET OUT!" he roared, his voice becoming tinny as a light began to manifest over him, a dark purple glow crackling with white bolts streaking over the private's armor...

"Dietrich, STOP!" Damian yelled, grabbing the ex-nazi by the shoulder. "Don't chase after that thing! All you'll succeed in doing is getting yourself killed!"

The revenant paid no heed to the Private's angry cries, as the revenant dragged the former human behind a large rock structure, to allow for a better ambush spot in the inevitable event that the humans chased after him. But Crom soon began to feel burning from his tendrils. The revenant relinquished his grip on the private, snarling in an almost animalistic manner, before he turned towards the private. As the light rippled along Private's armor, the revenant's true face became visible to the Private: the revenant's face did not resemble a man's at all! Rather, it had been malformed, warped into a hideous mockery of a human visage. The monster's eyes were thin and slanted, with deep wrinkles beneath them. The monster's face lacked a visible nose, and his head had no ears on the side. And the abomination's mouth... it was a huge, gaping maw, filled with tiny, needle liek teeth, with a claw-like mouth that glowed bright red when opened. The Revenant hissed in pain, as the lights along the Private's armor became brighter, also serving to reveal the revenant's hideous, barely human shape. Snarling angrily, Crom raised a massive, blade-tipped tentacle, an thrust it into the Private's gut, hoping to stop the private from creating more light, and ruining his plan....

The Private's hands were engulfed in the purple light, while the green light of his lenses increased in radiance until the light started to reach out into the darkness as ethereal sheets. He grabbed the tendril with one hand mid-transit, a burst of electricity going off as soon as he made contact with the shadowy limb, the field of energy spreading out over it as the young man twisted it away from his body. His other hand balled into a fist and without hesitation, Private sent it flying into the side of the revenant's head, a pulse of Rift energy jerking it away painfully.

Dietrich gritted his teeth, infuriated at the loss of the last of his men; his last link to the life he once had, and the only soldier in the group aside from himself. ".....Scheiße!" cursed the Commander, before turning back and heading to the Wustenfuchs, its main weapons already fully charged and ready to fire the moment the group were clear. As the tether tore apart the depths of the cavern's subterranean valley, Dietrich vowed vengeance. He would destroy the tether....and then he would erase the Revenant from existence....as would he every other monstrosity in this wretched realm, for so long as breath remained in his lungs and a heart beat in his chest. This place had taken everything he once had...he would return the favour...with interest...

The ravenous abyss had begun to consume the cavern, the tether's power growing exponentially almost eveyr second. The cave wasn't going to last much longer; Damian knew that, and clearly, Dietrich knew it too. Turning to the others, Damian shouted.

"Time to get out of dodge, ladies and gents! Let's get back to the APC!"

With that, Damian turned and began his retreat towards the Wusterfuchs and the APC...

Crom let out a roar of anger and pain, the rift energy ripplnig across his blackened form, his form sizzling from the magical power. Feeling the cavern beginning to crumble, Crom knew that he needed to escape, or else risk being consumed by the tether. Suddenly, the shadows around the private came to life themselves, the darkness engulfing him like a massive blanket, as it pressed against his body in an attempt to hamstring him. Crom snarled, his glimmering red eyes widening, before the revenant slithered across the earth, heading towards the cavern entrance in an attempt to escape....

Private grunted and snarled, thrashing against the inky shadows that snared him. He was hunched over and crackling with the essence of the Rift running over his body, watching the revenant flee. His anger escalated like a flame given more fuel to burn. "My friends didn't get to run, why should YOU!?" the soldier boomed, the Rift energy exploding outwards around in a pulse that dissolved the darkness grasping at him. Before he could pursue the monster, he was knocked aside by another shadowy beast. Another stamped down the flesh-carpeted straight, followed by another and another. Before long, it was clear those not bound to the valley were stampeding in a mass exodus.

Private, regaining his senses at that moment, realized this was no time to indulge in rage. There were far more important things to be dealt with. He broke into a sprint, swooping an arm down as he came across his fallen weapon and continuing to dash toward the cave's exit. His gun had been damaged in the fray; to what extent he did not know. He would worry about that at a later time.

Yukari and Rebin ran as fast as they could toward the APC and the exit. This place was coming down, and with it, would be the loss of possible scientific work, and an ally they had. With this kind of energy surging out of control, no doubt anything that tried to survive what was to come would be wiped out...

By the time Private was out of the cavern, Dietrich was already climbing into the Wustenfuchs, weapons locking on detected targets all over the cave system, sensors penetrating stone, steel and rift energy carelessly to pinpoint its imminent victims. It was only when he got into the cockpit of the gargantuan vehicle, as the engine roared monstrously and shook the very earth upon which it moved, that he realised Private was exiting the cave system. Relief, shock, and suspicion were the first things the man felt, moving scanners over the survivor and identifying what kind of state he was in. For all intents and purposes, he was perfectly normal. The faintest traces of the Decay could be detected on him, but they were inactive, and, as it seemed, dead, though there was an immense amount of Rift Radiation on the man. It seemed as though the Decay had been killed by the radiation itself...

Private ran up to the Wustenfuchs, his footprints in the dust and sand outside the cavern crackling with the white bolts of electricity and expelling the purple vapor. He leaped onto the tank's ladder and headed up it in a three-point climb, holding his damaged weapon with his free hand. The exterior entrance opened and he climbed into the airlock, where he toppled forwards and laid prone. He was panting heavily as the door closed behind him, sealing him in the decontamination chamber, where he would stay until all this pent up energy was released.

He decided to help the process along, calming himself and ceasing his ragged thoughts of violence and wrath. In doing so, the radiation slowly flowed freely off of him as a mist, weak discharges lighting up the airlock.

The moment Private and the others were out of the way, a roaring boom shook the entire valley as two narrow dark purple streaks soared from the tip of the Wustenfuchs' main gun, through the entrance of the cavern, a blinding flash engulfing the insides of the cave soon afterwards, a shockwave blowing out dust and filth from the cave entrance, the residue floating in the air after a few moments, before being sucked back inside, parts of the cliff beginning to collapse inwards down onto the cave, the singularities fired from the tank sucking up and destroying everything they could reach, including the stone that supported the mountain beneath which the cavern lay. The massive tank's engine let loose a horrifying roar as the vehicle rumbled backwards, reversing away from the cave and boosting the traction of the Anti-grav treads that moved it, keeping itself firmly locked to the earth as it retreated from the cave, knowing the singularities would grow rapidly with so much matter to feed it, Dietrich not intending to detonate the ETF triggers somehow suspending themselves within the singularities' cores just yet...

With what sounded startlingly like a roar from a gargantuan monstrosity, the cliff exploded in full, boulders flying high into the sky with brilliant streaks of light behind them before being sucked back toward the singularities; the shadowy veil suddenly rushing into the center of the upheaval, swirling around as one pitch black mass as the landscape crumbled into nothingness.

Where the rise in the land once was, a crater remained, jagged and craggy with the black fire rippling and flickering. Held over it with many ethereal arms and tendrils was the singularity, the event horizon as bright as a sun as Rift energy was spun into coils of light at the outer edges of the black hole.

Another bellow from within the boiling mass, and the Rift storm rolling overhead started to twist and spin, an impossible gale sweeping across the wasteland and lifting the debris with it...

"DAMIAN! REBIN! YUKARI! RETREAT UND OPEN FIRE!" ordered the Commander as he had the massive war machine continue it's rapid, stable retreat, giving the target room as the triggers detonated, the singularities collapsing, resulting in massive explosions engulfing the Rift Tendrils, several hundred thousand tons of matter flying outwards with immense force as a protective field crackled into existence in front of the tank, debris flying towards it flying off in different directions as it splashed against the deep purple barrier. Meanwhile, the main guns braced for a second shot, mere seconds from being unleashed upon the monstrous Rift Anomaly...

The explosions went off with a horrifying noise, a deep cracking that made it sound as if the realm itself was breaking apart. The blinding light that ensued, however, remained in the sky for far longer than it should have. It was contained, the limbs of darkness stretching unnaturally and wrapping around the sphere, which was almost literally a dwarf star. Sustained in a field of Rift energies, the sphere was then launched back at the Wustenfuchs, purple miasma trailing it as it arched through the sky...

The private was alive. But now wasn't the time for Yukari and Rebin to begin asking questions on how they didn't notice him escape earlier. As soon as they had gotten into the APC, they ran into the turrets and unleashed hell upon the eldritch tendrils, countless bullets slicing through them and the sphere it had fired, trying to prevent it from reaching the Wustenfuchs, all the while, backing the APC up to get distance away from the otherworldly entity. This was what they had to destroy... this was what they were to deal with.

What could only be described as the roar of machinery could be heard, as Damians entered the pilot seat and fired off the railgun on top. As the APC broke into a retreat, the APC's primary mode of fire let out a deafening roar, as its high velocity round rippled through the distorting air and cleaved its way through 3 tendrils, slicing them clean in half. The railgun's round then found itself buried deep into the eldritch abomination. The APC continued to retreat, its railgun charging up for a second shot...

"NEIN! NEIN NEIN NEIN! ZE TEZER! SHOOT ZE TEZER! ZOSE LIMBS FEEL NOSSING!" yelled Dietrich over the comms as he disengaged the dual fire mode on the main guns, one firing directly at the incoming fireball, the entire thing being sucked into the resulting singularity as the second round was fired through the ground with a direct route towards the tether, the singularity forming en route and consuming huge portions of earth, boring a line of fire towards the tether in the valley of the former cavern, as the tank's secondary guns shifted to Arcing Fire, firing rounds at a slower velocity and lobbing high explosive rounds towards the target. Back in the airlock, a final hiss was heard as Private was completely cleansed of the Rift radiation, which was siphoned off and channelled towards the Reactor, speeding up the loading of the next shot...

The pseudo-star ruptured in mid-flight due to the others firing upon it, the expanse of energy bombarding the area with intense radiation in addition to the immense pressure wave that occurred not long after. The singularity however, lessened what could have been disastrous for both teams, absorbing the released power but in turn becoming unstable in itself. The matter was only worsened when the incorporeal arms of shadow caught the second black hole and started the process of feeding it energy to transform it. As the singularity formed another small star the first one exploded, which in turn caused the volatile orb to react in kind, a searing white flash overtakinging the black fires and rushing outwards...

Following Dietrich's command, Damian shifted the next shot of the railgun up towards the Tether. Locking on target, Damian soon squeezed the trigger. With a mighty roar, the railgun fired off its deadly payload, the heavy uranium rippling through the air at speeds faster than the eye could see. Even as the massive, rift-born creature, which appeared less akin to an animal than it did a giant nuclear reaction given live, grew in power, the railgun round tore past towards the tether, slowing down gradually due to the THING'S power, before it made contact...

"Yeah...shooting the miniature sun was a bad idea. Note to self, never do it again." Yukari muttered to herself as she and Rebin changed the turrets trajectory to aim and fire at the tether itself. Countless bullets sliced through the air as they made their way toward the target...That could have been a near nightmare with the exploding star. Both Yukari and Rebin didn't want another one thrown at them... the results of that would be even worse than the first.
