"I will be right there," came Private's voice on the other end, the soldier sounding much better after his time of rest. As to how well he really was, that was yet to be seen.

The machine-suit thudded over towards the center of the tundra-chamber, the frost crunching underneath its feet. The howling wind died down by time Kane reached the edge of the sheer drop and light from above ground shone down through the tunnel blown through the ceiling, causing the remaining ice in the chamber to sparkle. "Better idea," said the young scientist when he fired up the thrusters and started his flight to reach topside. "We get back on board and introduce the Mech-to-pus to our good pal, Twitchy! Putting in the call now."

His message was distorted somewhat by the angry noises the automaton was making as it put an increasingly enlarging distance between it and the duo, growling and snarling. It flew over the dilapidated metropolis after the mace-balls, reaching around with its limbs. The lightning that stretched in between the weapons jumped to the tendrils when they neared and the mace-balls were suspended at the ends of the limbs save for one, which reattached entirely.

The automaton flipped over then, dropping straight out of the sky and landing in the deserted streets with a loud crash, several small and scrawny creatures scattering into the ruins as the dust trailed into the sky. It stood on four of its limbs, the maces embedded in the asphalt; broken chunks of the road tilted up around them. It slammed the reattached mace into a nearby structure like a wrecking ball, demolishing the front wall before dredging the mace up and through the building, making it erupt through the roof. The building fell in on itself, rubble spilling out into the road. The other limb that the machine wasn't using to support itself was visibly damaged; it was the one that the two explorers fought initially before the rest of the machine showed itself. The end of the damaged limb glowed with purple and pinkish energy before a ray of Rift energy sliced through the air and a line of buildings, causing several explosions to go off in sequence, showering the area with debris and discolored flames.

The rampaging machine tilted backwards, issuing a silent bellow, its jaws snapping. The maces beneath it started to spin up, ripping apart the ground as it started to literally roll through the city!

Rebin and Yukari were quick to follow out of the APC behind Damian, their weapons loaded and ready incase of attack. The moment they got out, Yukari noticed something. "Suit's picking up very high levels of oxygen here, around 40%. That doesn't make any sense."

"Maybe it's all the forest here. Trees produce a lot of oxygen, you know." Rebin was quick to reply.

"No, that can't be it. it's not enough to produce this much, and it's located only in this city. Elsewhere, they're more reasonable. Something else is at work here." Indeed, it didn't make any sense. This forest covered city would have to have been far larger and contain a much greater volume of trees to produce that much oxygen. But then again, nothing in this world made sense... But with high oxygen levels, came other things as well... and she hoped they wouldn't run into those other things.

By the entrance of the ruined building they were heading to, were three odd creatures, almost as strange as the gliding reptiles in the air. They weren't too large, only about 20 feet long, and they were built low to the ground. They had pig-like snouts, and crocodilian bodies with large spikes jutting out the sides. they didn't pay any mind to the group, but merely grazed on the ferns around the building entrance. One of them walked into the ruined building, unaware of malevolent eyes watching from within...

Jacob ran up the side of the hole towards the surface, kicking off and swinging off an iron rod, launching himself vertically before flipping, landing on one knee, firsts embedded in the cracked street beneath him. Until the sentient plant reasserted it's dominance over the area and attacked, he would have to make sure the machine didn't turn its attentions to the Felicity...

As the group advanced through the overgrown city, several mossy-looking stones could be seen dotting the ground. Closer inspection however, revealed that they all had twin stalks on one end of them, protruding about an inch out of their 4-foot-high, 5-foot-wide disk-like forms. As Dietrich approached one of them in his casual walk through the streets towards the power source, it made a series of spluttering sounds as it's stalks rotated towards him, before it began scuttling away and squeezing itself into a damaged drainage vent on the side of the street. "Oh. Es ist eine krabbe!" he said, chuckling in amusement...

Sergeant, Andrew Hutcherson lay bleeding in mud and tall ferns. his leg cut, and his armor shredded like nothing. His body was half numb from blood loss and shock.

He rolled over on his side and reached out for Major Sarah Hall. A few feet from her, lied two heavily automated combat drones torn into scrap metal. Equipped with more firepower than tanks, the two hulking drones had been annihilated.

"Sarah!", screamed Corporal Ilshstein as he shook her body. He had tried everything in his training to save her. But in the end, the skills of a combat medic could not heal a broken mind and heart. The Major's own vibroblade laid buried in her chest.

The Corporal, seeing Hutcherson quickly moved to tend to the Sergeant's wounds.

"Dammit Hutcherson I thought you'd left me too." , shuddered the medic.

"I had thought the same, corporal." , whisper Hutcherson, his face covered in dried blood.

"I won't let you die here, sir." started the Medic as he tended to Hutcherson's wounds.

Coughing up blood, Andrew barely gasped, "I'm lying in a pile of brass, corporal, I wouldn't have it any other way."

"I know." replied the medic, though no other living man was now listening.

Damian too noticed the strange, disk like creatures scuttling into the wrecked shell of the building. This place seemed to be getting weirder and weirder. First there were dinosaurs, robots, and undead, now there's sentient probes, shadow demons, and now sentient Frisbees. Damian kept at his brisk pace, his scanners soon picking up the signal from the other probe. He stopped, and looked to his left, to see a large, dilapidated building with an equally massive tree growing out of it. The signal was extremely powerful right here, so he assumed that this was the building that the probe was housed in. However, considering all the strange occurrences that have plagued him and his crew, Damian kept his Grenade Launcher at the ready, and spoke into the communications relay.

"This is the place," Damian said. "Let's keep on high alert now."

With that, Damian went towards the building, scanning the surrounding area for potential threats. There was a fairly large creature somewhere in the city, but thankfully, it wasn't near their building. Unfortunately, he'll need to keep it in mind for when they're leaving, for it might decide to venture over to their location....

Strange, scuttling rocklike creatures weren't the only things moving around in the dilapidated metropolis. A small pack of Crawlers had apparently also taken up residence in the wrecked building nearby. One of the Alphas poked its crested head out of a window high up the building. Obviously not appreciating the human intruders, the Crawler let out a angry wail and fired a short burst of yellow energy bolts at the group. The attack was rushed and inaccurate, and the wolf-like machine almost immediately ducked back inside and scuttled off, apparently not too keen on fighting at the moment.

With their attention on high alert, the bolt didn't catch Yukari and Rebin completely off-guard. Thanks to it missing wildly, they didn't need to get out of the way, as it splashed into the ground 30 feet away from them. However, they did turn instantly, their weapons aimed at where the attack had come from. Yet by the time they had done so, the crawler was already gone. Their weapons still aimed in that area, they kept on alert. "Just our luck. We can't seem to go anywhere without something hostile wanting us dead." Rebin growled under his breath.

However, the attack had done more than just set them on edge. The nearby trio of Demastosuchus had been frightened by the sudden attack, and began to flee from the area. The one that was in the building began to run out, apparently spooked by something else, but it was too late. A massive sliver pincer clamped down around the animal's neck, pinning it where it was. The creature struggled, but was helpless as it was dragged into the darkness of the building, where it's cries for help suddenly ceased....

Dietrich had his assault rifle pointing in the direction of the crawlers the moment they fired, but they were gone before he could retaliate, the man simply looking towards where they had been with the characteristic sharp, alert glare that the Commander was known for. The unexpected attack from within the building drew his attention towards it, the issue wrestling for his attention. Checking the Wustenfuchs' scanners, he identified another vital sign previously hidden; Whatever it was must've entered the area very fast, or was behind some incredibly powerful insulation to avoid detection...both were bad news for him. "Vatch yourselves, mein freunde. vhatever it is, it is fast" he warned...

The new vital sign wasn't the only thing on Dietrich's sensors. Three spikes of energy appeared, all originating from the same level of the building as the Crawlers, before abruptly ceasing as soon as they started. Instead they were replaced by more stable energy signatures, a bit larger than the ones produced by the Crawlers scuttling around inside.

After burying Major Hall, and Sergeant Hutcerson, Corporal Ilshstein flicked on his radar. This time he was hunting. Now following a large blip of commotion in the distance, Ilshstein moved slowly, but deliberately. The built German then flicked up his wrist HUD, and made a quick comm. report.

"Corporal Jurgen Ilshtsein. Loss of armored personnel carrier, including two drones. Major Hall and Sergeant Hutcherson both KIA. No word of a rescue force. Ilshstien out."

Feeling scared and alone, the heavily armed medic ran on, guided by his radar. Yet, he half heared a soft whispering voice in his ears. thinking nothing of it, he switched the safety off of his firearm and was back on the move.

Damian couldn't help be but annoyed by the presence of the crawlers, and whatever was within the building was clearly a serious threat. The energy pings seemed to all be coming from where they needed to go. Joyous. Seemed like everything in this god-forsaken rift flocked to the exact place that they needed to go to. deciding to "check" for potential threats in the building that could ambush them, Damian fired a single grenade into the doorway...

Dietrich's gaze snapped towards the source of the shot as Damian fired his grenade launcher, the Commander gritting his teeth in frustration. "Damian, acht-careful! Do you really want every damned monstrosity in this place charging at us at once?!" he warned, keeping track of energy signatures on the sensors. the explosion was preceeded by several of the smooth, stone-like crustaceans scuttling out of the building, some skittering under truck and car-like hulks of wreckage, others into drains, yet others into other buildings. at the peak of a skyscraper not too far from them, a blackish mass slung to one side of the structure, looking somewhat humanoid though possessing limbs grotesquely disproportionate to it's body, long slimy, tendril like limbs gripping the building as it watched the group from the distance, the sheer amount of buildings in the area obstructing the Wustenfuchs's sensors, keeping it from being detected...

With the explosion of the grenade, the loud shriek came from within the building. Blood splattered across the entrance and the floor, and as the smoke settled, both Yukari and Rebin had their weapons trained on the opening, waiting for whatever was inside to come out and attack. Moments passed, yet there was nothing. No movement at all. It was as if whatever was in there had either been scared away... or was dead from the explosion. Neither of them showed it, but they were surprised at this. They were expecting something to come out at them, especially given how most of the rest of the locals here had reacted to them in this realm. But while it would have been refreshing, here it was unnerving.

"Well... whatever was in there, it hopefully died from that... or got scared and ran away." Rebin said. He looked at the rest of the group. "If we're to head on in, now is the best time."

"That worked out excellently," Damian said, before he turned to Dietrich. "Well, I'd rather take the possibility of something appearing than go in and definitely get killed by whatever was in there."

Hopefully it won't bother us, Damian thought to himself as he approached the smoldering hole where the door was. The escaping creatures from before confirmed that there were indeed beasts within the building, as did the pained squeals of the clawed monster that had made its presence known. Hopefully, though, there wouldn't be worse waiting in store for them. They'd already had plenty of trouble...

As if in response to the grenade's detonation, there was another energy signature, and a Knight Commander, the glowing lines of its carapace literally giving off energy like an orange flame, translocated on the top of the building. The machine's faceplate opened, revealing the glowing orange skull underneath, and it screeched its fury at the humans below. Raising the Incineration Cannon that made up its right arm, the Knight fired, a mighty thoom echoing out as a stream of pulsating, dancing orange particles sailed towards the group assembled on the ground below. A hit from the weapon would vaporize them if they were caught in the blast radius...

Dietrich bolted towards the nearest piece of cover, diving behind the husk of an old multi-axle vehicle, firing a high explosive round from his side-arm over the edge of the rusted vehicle, the ground under the Knight being blown apart by a shockingly powerful blast, the dilapidated building's side crumbling under the shock of the blast...

Likewise, both Rebin and Yukari ran for it, running out of range of the Incineration Cannon's area as they twisted around and fired upward at the Promethian Knight on the roof... These robots were now going beyond annoying, to damn persistant nightmares.

Damian also rushed for the nearest cover, sprinting as fast as he could before rolling behind a tattered old wall that lay barren nearby, before firing a sticky grenade quickly at the Promethean Knight. It seemed that things never could be at peace for more than five minutes in this place. They'd need to move fast, or else risk ambush...

The Knight had not stuck around to observe the results of the ambush. It had translocated away seconds after firing, and the attacks made against it simply destroyed the area where it had been standing. The Incineration Cannon's particle cluster detonated on impact with the ground, disintegrating anything organic in the blast radius and scattering several submunitions around ground zero to destroy anything that was killed by the initial shot.

"Does it never END?" exclaimed the Commander in frustration as he put away his side-arm, drawing his assault rifle as he monitored his sensors, prepared to obliterate the first trace of the threat's reappearance, as rubble crashed down the side of the building from his shot...
