Seeing the movement in the bushes, both Yukari and Rebin took off after Damian once more, also searching for an area where they could hide from the machines... Why? Why did these things seem so interested in chasing after them? Did they precieve them as intruders?...

Up in the trees, the unseen figure kept watch, hidden in the shadows, eluding detection... What special worth did these humans have? Only watching and waiting would tell that...

The shadowy being soon pursued the humans, avoiding detection with masterful skill, and making no sound to hint towards its existence....

Damian could see lots of trees gathering around them... unfortunately, the sounds of the machines seemed to be coming from around them, IN the trees. Things did not look good for them... they needed to find that APC, and fast...

Creeping through the underbrush, the black scaled animal spied streaks of orange light shooting across the moist marshland soil after their targets, black eyes then being covered in a murky white as it blinked. Adjusting his heading, Azentoth began walking along side the speedy robots' path, not betraying his intent. Several of the dog-like constructs ran by but the Metal Muncher did not strike once. He would just follow the trail until he found where they were all going to...

The Crawlers stuck to the high ground, scuttling along the branches of trees and hopping from perch to perch when necessary. The Watcher hovered alongside, weaving between branches with ease. They did not attack, simply focused on herding the humans out into the open, where they would be more vulnerable. They detected the Metal Muncher below, but paid it no mind. If it was a threat, they would deal with it in due course, but the intruders were priority for now...

As he was running, Rebin felt something tear into his backpack. Before he could see who it was, the backpack zipped up, and he could hear Yukari shout, "Screw this! I've had enough of these machines!" He turned his head back... and his eyes widened when he saw the gun in her hands. It was a large gun, with coils crackling with energy. He... he had forgotten all about the gun...

Yukari aimed the gun up into the trees and pressed the trigger. A sphere of plasma energy fired out and zoomed into the tree branches... and then, it exploded. A wave of energy washed over the robots in the treetops, messing with their systems and sending them crashing down onto the ground...Rebin took this opportunity to open fire on the crawlers with the sidearm Damian gave to him...

Damian was shcoked by the brilliant display of energy, as the powerful blast rippled in the air with lustrous results, along with a satisfactory striek on the machines. Damian fired his Grenade launcher at the downed machines, the adhesive grenade aimed to kill as many as possible, before he kept on running. He was glad that the weapon was used... it bought them a few extra secodns of time...

But Damian couldn't help but wodnering: where was the gun earleir when they needed it? Had he really had the weapon all along and never used it?

A grim shape continued pursuing the group, avoiding direct line of sight with masterful skill and efficiency...

The fragile Crawlers caught in the energy blast were torn apart, with those on the edges of the explosion merely stunned, though they were easy pickings for the other weapons fired at them. Unfortunately for the humans, the machines had been spread out across the trees, preventing their numbers from being too badly depleted. Even so, the Crawlers to slowed their pursuit somewhat. They were now aware of the humans' more powerful armament, and would adapt accordingly. They continued to give chase, but the Watcher slowed down, swooping away from the pursuit and moving off into the trees...

Another bolt of plasma fired from the gun a few seconds later, this one exploding once more amongst the branches, with the shrieks of stunned and falling Crawlers telling Yukari that this hit as well was a sucess, with Rebin firing as well with his handgun, all the while both moving as fast as they could to where they hoped the APC was...

Up in the branches as well, the yellow-eyed pursuiter was taking extra caution to avoid the plasma bursts... Indeed, these humans were most strange, and definitely well-armed...

Damian cursed udner his breath. These thigns weren't gonig to stop chasing them anytime soon. They needed to find a way to slow them down! But how?.....

Suddenly, damian thought of something. Damian spotted a tree up ahead, and soon began speeding towards it, pulling out some adhesive C4 and the detonator for the explosives as he did so. He had a plan....

Jacob soon did the same, his own straps disengaging as he rose to his feet. "I don't suppose there's a contingency plan programmed into this ship in case you're incapable of piloting it home, is there?" he inquired somewhat randomly as he followed the scientist. He really hoped he wasn't at risk of being trapped in this place if Kane was crippled. He was given especially little intel on this particular job, accompanied by a rather significant paycheck. Usually that was the corporate world's way of saying they didn't expect him to survive to receive the second half of the payment. But nobody thusfar had succeeded in killing him, and he had dealt with some extraordinary circumstances. He would see this job through like any other...

The Watcher had outpaced the human targets, taking a longer route around them. It had positioned itself several hundred meters ahead of them, glowing energy emanating from its underside and the ground beneath, as new shapes began to form...

The Crawlers did not seem perturbed by their losses, taking the moments between the humans' gunfire to simply close the distance gap...

Both Yukari and Rebin kept up the speed, firing backward to try and slow the robots down, all the while realizing what Damian was up to... Yes... perhaps that could work... Both sped up, hurrying past Damian as they did so... As they did, Yukari saw something up in the trees ahead of them. It was a brief glimpse, but it was metallic... Aiming the gun, she fired the plasma burst right for the Watcher...

As Rebin, Yukari, Damian passed, the armored human soon stuck his C4 onto the trunk of the tree, and soon began to run backwards, detonator in hand. He needed to time it just right.... hopefully, the tree woudl be big enough to do some damage to the horde....

The shadowy form continued watching the humans, somewhat impressed that they had not been slain by the machiens yet. Patience was, indeed, proving to be a virtue....

"Autopilot is top notch with the best AI programming and adaptive mapping systems, designed by OWL techies" Kane replied off hand, as if unphased by the questioning. His time prepping for this mission had been extensive indeed. "All we'd need to do is get a comm to home base and get them to start the transfer sequence from here to there. No matter where we are in this world, as long as the Relativity Coil is functional we'd be pretty safe. Famous last words? I don't think so" he added.

He was standing at that large metal container, which was now open. The hulking environmental suit was in full view, hooked up to the ship with various displays and lights surrounding the interior of the "wardrobe". After Kane had check the suit's systems, he was ready to put it on. The armor released a hiss of air and a low mechanical whining as its torso split apart and swung outwards along with the frontal plating of the leggings. Kane turned around and stepped up into the suit, an adaptive harness seeming to absorb him as the black, shock absorbing material spread across his body, contouring to his shape. It seemed as if he were less wearing the suit and more like he was piloting a mech. The plating locked up again with Kane's head still visible, almost comically tiny compared to the rest of his body. "See you outside!" he said to Jacob, his bubble helmet being lowered into place seconds later, a loud click sounding off when it was secured to the NT-SB.

The container then closed as well, the suit being turned on a revolving floor with the sound of a motor muffled by the thick metal sheets. After that, the outer hull flipped up and out, Kane stepping out and onto the plateau.

The drone of machinery elsewhere persisted...

The Watcher had plenty of time to avoid the incoming plasma burst, dipping down and letting it sail over the machine's head. This did not interrupt the process underneath it, where the glowing patches of ground began drawing up a batch of Crawlers, seemingly from the earth itself...

The pursuing Crawlers didn't fall for the trick. They had seen the human's trap placed, and immediately slowed to a halt, staring silently at the humans. One, different from the rest in terms of general appearance, opened its pincers, and a laser sight panned across the air in front of it, settling on the C4. The Crawler Snipe fired a single shout, which not only pierced the C4, but also the trunk behind it, as well as leave a burnt divot in the ground on the other side. Seeing that the attack had no effect, the Crawler drew back, the swarm of machines staring blankly at the humans...

The Metal Muncher was now at the treeline, watching the line of Crawlers come to a stop. Azentoth turned his head from side to side, broad head receiving the tingle of the robots, the tantalizing energy that scrap metal lacked. With their attention drawn on something else, the saurian rift dweller primed his muscular body, powerful legs tensing. Stream lining himself, Azentoth shot out of the cover of foliage like a bat out of hell, his tonnage now shaking the ground with every footfall...

The Crawlers' reaction was almost instantaneous. Like a swarm of giant cockroaches, the Crawlers scattered in every direction as Azentoth charged, vanishing into the foliage alone or in pairs, forcing the Metal Muncher to pick a single target. Even then, they stayed high in the trees, not foolish enough to go near the metal-eating predator...

Azentoth trailed a small group up to a large tree, watching them scurry up the bark. With him hot on their trail, he jumped, one foot slamming against the wood, claws splayed and digging into it. The impact was tremendous, actually dislodging the plant and causing it to tilt away from the Metal Muncher, managing to throw off one of the dog-like machines. The black beast's awaiting jaws caught it, teeth crunching into its body, slicing a hold onto its 300 pound body...

Yukari reaimed the gun, then pulled the trigger once more. A final burst of plasma spiraled out, heading right for the Watcher dead-on...

Rebin, on the other hand, was firing upon the crawlers that were comnig from the front now...

The Crawler squealed, then shattered as it was destroyed, pieces of its metal body raining down to the ground. The remaining Crawlers ignored this setback, instead continuing their pursuit of the humans by going around the boobytrapped tree.

The Watcher, sluggish and uncoordinated after its creation of new Crawlers, could not dodge the second shot, and was vaporized on contact. However, the Crawlers had already been created, and charged forward, towards the humans, firing as they went. All except one, however, which broke off from the new pack and scuttled away...
