Sharra huffed as he moved through the thickets of the forest, the synapsid standing up on his hind legs and looking around, before moving back on all fours.

The bear-like reptile had been on the search for prey, and so far it hadn't been easy. All he could find were deer and the occasional moose. Now he planned to head to the nearest stream, for it was the salmon migration here in Alaska. Though he was just as willing to hunt for a creature of his own size.

Sharra moved down the hill he was on, spotting a stream in the distance and slowly making his way towards it.

Talon's beloved home...

The battered, somber remains of the city were a good enough playground for them. Many a monster - and many a human - died here, that was sure. Some of the most sophisticated minds of a generation were taken to the grave trying to flee the city, leaving the facility they poured all their hopes and dreams into to rot in rust and disrepair. Had Talon not been there to take the reigns, it would likely be nothing but scrap metal at this point.

"Jackson," the man said suddenly, as a small, disembodied display screen appeared to his left. "Are you ready yet?"

In truth, the two men were safely tucked away inside Intuitive Generations' research facility; what they both called home. But to them, it was as if they were topside amongst the ruins, in the cockpit of two of the most technologically advanced machines Talon had ever dreamed of, let alone seen.

Concord and Enterprise - the experimental units that didn't (and shouldn't) exist.

The interface to Talon's own unit, Concord, was almost impossibly complex, at least in outward appearance. Although the information that was in constant flow was indeed quite complicated, the operation of the machine was as simple as thought and action. Seated in a bizarre cockpit not unlike that of a jet, albeit one with hand controls, the simulator mimicked the actual cockpit of the unit to the letter, offering an unparalleled experience without the need to put the unit itself in danger.

"Uh..." was Jackson's less than stellar reply.

His cockpit -if it could even be called such a thing- was more like a bubble that defied spacial perception, without any visible control equipment to speak of. Jackson knew he was in a simulation pod, sure. But what he was seeing was a seemingly infinite expanse of blue and white swirling around him as he stood upright with the impression of weightlessness with no visible floor, paradoxically calming and unnerving at the same time. The only thing that added any context to this was Talon's face, and even that was something he had just recently gotten used to in his training. It wasn't exactly comforting to see a man's face floating freely in infinity.

Jackson inhaled deeply and calmed his mind. The helmet he had on his head had a wide black visor that covered his eyes. It was sleek and angular like that of a fighter jet pilot's, though with a semicircle extending from the temple region and arcing out so that it ended a few inches past the back of the man's head. It was a muted green and cream color that matched the rest of his suit, the green being the primary color while the cream was mostly highlights and stripes at the back of his limbs.

The interior of the semicircle began to glow. Elsewhere on the suit, previously black circles began to glow the same color: a digital cyan light, with rings of white rotating in the center. These circles were on the man's shoulders, the back of his hands, lining his back and on his knees and ankles. Holographic cylinders "rose" into position from the points, with ethereal lines manifesting themselves for a few feet, only to have them disappear into nothingness.

And that was when the expanse of infinity shifted, the immaterium becoming a panoramic representation of the surface of the battered city, as if he were standing outside himself. If the outside was some kind of miniature replica of the entire city, that is.

"Jesus, that's still weird as hell to me," he said to Talon.

"I can never figure out if you are getting better or worse at this," Talon teased with a sarcastic monotone, shaking his head. In truth, he wasn't exactly comfortable either, but in a completely different way; the skin-tight red suit he was wearing was grabbing him in places he didn't know existed.

"Think we can have a proper test this time?" Talon asked, giving Jackson a condescending sneer over the display. "Or would you like to take more baby steps?"

For dramatic effect, his unit took a runner's stance on the opposite side of the city from the Enterprise.

Jackson extended his arms forwards and interlocked his fingers, seeing the Enterprise' own gigantic limbs mirror the motion, including the knuckle cracking... as best as a machine could manage.

"You said we'd be dealing with the scum of the earth pretty soon, if all things go well. Can't let my own machine's interface distract me, can I?" Jackson replied.

He tilted his head from side to side, cracking his neck and like before, the Enterprise reacted as quickly as the thought to move was issued. His view of the world was emulated to a T, as if he was the 120 meter unit standing in the ruined streets. With that, he adopted a half crouched combat stance, one arm cocked with the hand balled into a fist while the other arm was extended in front of him, the flat of the palm facing forwards towards the Concord...

"Easier said than done," Talon murmured, shooing away the various indicators clouding his view of the battlefield. "Oh right. En garde!"

With but a thought, the Concord was sent charging across the battlefield like a sprinter aimed at the finish line. Despite its immense size, the unit moved very quickly, throwing up dust and debris as it ran. The bizarre machine stepped onto a low-lying building mid way through closing the distance to the Enterprise, stepping up onto progressively taller buildings until it was far above the unit's head in height. At the apex of a crumbling skyscraper, the Concord launched itself from its perch - causing the collapse of the building in question - and began freefalling in the direction of its enemy, unloading a frenzy of maser fire from its wrists as it did.

"Alley oop!"

With a combination of thought and movement, the Enterprise displayed how incredibly limber it was for such a gargantuan mech. As its back arched backwards, it kicked off of the asphalt, the worn road cracking beneath the force and sending splintered shards of pavement jutting upwards. The unit flipped end over end, its feet smashing against a line of structures that were behind it, leaving distinct impressions of them after it vaulted off towards Concord, arms reaching out. Promptly after, the buildings caved in around the footprints, disappearing into into the dust of their own demise...

"This is the real deal, son!" Talon yelled as the two units rocketed toward each other. "And sometimes the only way is the hard way!"

Wrist weapon retracting, the Concord thrust its palm outward.

"Shields to maximum!"

A translucent cyan barrier, like mirrored glass, appeared before the unit's outstretched limb, doubling on itself in rapid succession as it reached out ahead of the Concord itself. The Enterprise was on a collision course with the barrier...

"Balls!" Jackson shouted as he reflexively curled up into himself. The Enterprise rolled through the air, slamming against the shield with all fours, the force dispersing outwards and rippling across the forcefield. The unit's bent knees released their tension like a spring, the Enterprise flipping off of the wall of energy and sailing backwards into the cloud of debris that was rising behind it, the gale that followed the falling mech promptly causing the dust to be blown away upon landing...

As the Enterprise fell back into the cloud of dust, the barrier faded away. Briefly tucking its legs close to its chest, the Concord re-positioned itself right side up with a leg outstretched beneath it, pointed toward where the other unit had fallen. The unit's arms were at its sides, poised, with two brilliant silvery blades protruding out of the palms.

"Two can play at this game, boy-o!" Jackson thought smugly. "MT field to max power!" he called out, swinging an am around. His hand stopped in a way that it looked as if the Enterprise was going to catch the Concord's heel, the light several meters ahead of it distorting for an instant before the cyan hexagon manifested, prismatic lines extending out from the center region at the palm...

"A fantastic opportunity to test the shield strength!" Talon declared with a laugh, a bead of sweat trickling down his forehead. The Concord impacted with the shield in a bizarre conflict of energy, as the unit's own MT field attempted to interfere with the Enterprise's. The clash sounded as if glass was being ground together, and the struggle seemed to suspend the Concord in mid-motion, its foot attempting to force its way through the prismatic veil in front of its enemy.

Jackson gritted his teeth as he returned the favor, his arm trembling as if he were lifting a ridiculous amount of weight with it. In more than one way, he was, the Enterprise supporting the red mech's mass while its own MT capability wore away at his own. "Can't sink too much power into it," Jackson told himself. "don't want to go low on juice too quickly!"

Jackson swung his other arm around and channeled a secondary, weaker shield, hoping it would be enough to force the Concord back when the primary one failed...

"Ganna have to think outside the box for this one," thought Talon as the sweat continued to build on his head and neck. Suddenly, the blades attached to the palms of the Concord were discharged with a loud escape of air. As they were released, the hands closed, holding each weapon by a thick cable running from its base. As the Concord continued to fight its way through the barrier, it began swinging the two blades in increasingly rapid revolutions parallel to its body.

"Come'in 'atcha!" Talon cried as he swung the blades down in opposite directions, the cables rapidly extending to keep up. The two weapons were aimed at the areas of the Enterprise not protected by the shield, on its sides.

Jackson's eyes widened. "Well **** this ****!"

He spun to the side as he ducked down low, his primary shield falling the instant he narrowly dodged the Concord's weapon. He cried out as he sent the secondary shield up into the Concord's side in an uppercut motion, sending it tumbling away through the air...

Eyes wide, it took Talon a moment to right himself.

"Damn...that hurt."

The Concord, in response, dug its hands into the ground to slow to a halt. Upon doing so, the unit immediately broke out into a mad dash, the cables of its weapons trailing behind it. Closing in on the Enterprise, the Concord began retracting the cables with a screeching whirl; the weapons were once again in its hands by the time it reached its enemy.

With a grunt, Jackson sent the Enterprise hurtling through the air after a powerful jump, the mech coming down hard on the flat roof of a medium sized complex off to his side. He jumped again as it started to crumble away, one foot smashing into the side of a larger building beside it and taking out a massive chunk, kicking it towards the speeding unit...

Swerving to reacquire its target, the Concord immediately cleaved the hunk of building in two with a swing of its blade. Moving with the momentum of the swing, it hurled the second blade at the Enterprise, the cable attached to the base of the weapon whipping out behind it.

The Enterprise spun with the motion of its kick as it came back to the ground, the back of its second foot striking out at the side of the blade and knocking it off target while the mech's wrist mounted guns moved into position, a holographic representation of the weapons appearing on Jackson's actual arms as he held them out in front of him. It was then when two triangular reticles with notches on all three sides pointing inwards appeared, the crosshairs being a bright neon green color. They overlapped over the midpoint of the knife's cable and blinked twice with the lock-on, a burst of purple maser fire directed on the point in order to sever the line...

While the Enterprise lashed out at the blade, a wealth of information was brought before Talon's eyes. Scanning the information in the few seconds that followed, the man hesitated for a moment, then flicked the unit's arm. A surge of motion was sent down the length of the cable, causing it to shift abruptly upward just as the Enterprise fired, narrowly avoiding the shot and straightening the cable in the same fluent motion. With his next move, Talon flicked the cable above the Enterprise's shoulder and began retracted the cable with a mechanical whirl, while simultaneously aiming and firing the second weapon at its chest.
