"Surely you heard them howling," Insolitus mewed, somewhat surprised. He showed it with a slight widening of his blue eyes. "Or, well...maybe not," he added, glancing over his shoulder. "I don't know how far this is from where I came from."

[Shade]

Sunclaw's ears perked up at that word as well, but she kept low in the bushes and quiet. The tom seemed reluctant enough to stay, the wolves had sounded farther off, why should they worry?

"Of course we heard them!" The brown she-cat mewed. "You dont see us running for the hills- or in this case, the clan boarder!"

[Hopeflower]

"I suppose it would be different for you," Insolitus meowed, only a faint trace of bitterness in his tone. "You have the Clan at your back - you have the knowledge that wherever you are, you have friends who'll stand beside you no matter what. Noises don't scare you. But it's better to be cautious when you're on your own. Especially when there are wolves around."

[The Kingpin]

"Trust me, loner, i know the lifestyle you live....maybe even better than you do yourself. I know how life alone can be and the precautions that must be taken. what surprises me most though is that you managed to miss the Clan border" growled the tom, as he leapt from his lofty perch, landing with a faint thump, having checked the surroundings for others accompanying the intruder, and finding none. "So i take it your reason for here is because of an overreaction?an overreaction to a sound too far off to be a threat?" he hissed, not quite willing to believe a loner, much like he had been a few seasons ago, could be so fearful of such a distant sound...

"You'd be right," Insolitus meowed, his eyes narrowing a bit. "I said earlier I wasn't expecting to hear them - so I panicked and ran. I missed the border for the same reason. You have no need to believe or disbelieve me," he added. "I can't make you change your mind if you think I'm lying."

[The Kingpin]

"Right now i neither believe nor disbelieve you. However, assuming what you say is true, let me give you a word of advice from an experienced loner. a wise cat keeps his cool under pressure, be it danger or otherwise. don't run from the badger and into the twoleg, so to speak. it can get you killed when you're not careful" growled Wraith calmly, his tone no longer carrying aggression, but more advice, from an elder loner to a younger one. he'd let the intruder go, but not without something to contemplate. "Now, i'd advise you to head for your den if it's close. if it's very close to the wolves then you'd be better off finding a tree to rest in for the night. find a safer place to stay in the morning" growled the black Tom, his alert gaze focused on the intruder, though his senses were focused on his surroundings as well. he had caught the faint scent of a certain young warrior listening in, and, though it wasn't the wisest move, he was pleased to know she was listening and learning from the events. he hoped she'd be wiser than her brother and, unfortunately, the two warriors at his sides, and NOT try and speak when an older warrior was present to handle the situation...

Insolitus grunted. "Now if only there were more cats like you outside the Clans," he meowed, turning to go. "Common sense would be a lot more common." As he started back in the direction he'd come, he glanced back. "Before I go, can you tell me whether I would be ambushed if I went around the lake in the other direction? I don't much like the taste of dirt."

The she cats stood down, their tense muscles loosening and their gaze becoming blank and neutral as ever as they waited for the cat to move on his way...

[The Kingpin]

"You mean through our territory?" meowed Wraith, his tone neutral...

[Hopeflower]

"No," Insolitus meowed. "Not through your territory. Jagara herself couldn't help me if I met more of your cats." his whiskers twitched. "No, I meant if I kept going this way, away from your territory and around the lake."

[Shade]

Sunclaw kept still and listened intently. The poor loner got spooked? She purred softly to herself at that, she had suspected loners to be better than that. She shrank a bit lower and waited for her chance to creep out.

[The Kingpin]

"Well...the Wolves typically stick to the trees from what i've seen. they preffer to stay deeper in the forest. so i don't think you'll have to worry as long as none of them decide they need a drink. many of the trees near the lake have large, exposed roots. if anything does turn up, you can use those for some protection. aside from that, i can't think of any advice for you. Good luck regardless. maybe we'll meet again under less...difficult circumstances. just try to avoid crossing our borders without us knowing next time...it'll save you the hostility" growled Wraith calmly, having by this point crossed the intruder's motive as an attacker off his mental list, though remaining wary in case something else happened to pose a threat...

Insolitus nodded thoughtfully. "I'll keep that in mind," he meowed. "Perhaps we will meet again, if fate allows. Best of luck to you all." His blue gaze swept over the Clan cats before he turned and bounded back the way he'd come. He could only assume that the Clan cat's response meant that he'd only run into the other Clans if he'd kept going through StormClan's territory. But maybe he was assuming wrong.

[The Kingpin]

Wraith waited until the loner had gone, before glancing at the two cats making up the patrol. "Now, if there's nothing else, i'll be heading back to the camp" growled the Leader, before turning and heading towards the camp, stopping in front of Sunclaw. "Now you've seen two things. how and how NOT to behave in front of intruders. Mudswirl and Riverstone showed you the latter. sadly it seems your brother's mistake is running rampant with the younger Warriors. Let's get back to the camp" he added as he looked down at his daughter in the bushes, a faint smile on his face...

Insolitus slowed his pace after a short while, and came to a stop not long after that. He glanced back towards the border, longing apparent in his somewhat puzzled blue eyes. "I wonder what it's like," he meowed softly, "not to fear what might be lurking in the darkness. To have friends who watch your back without question. To know exactly where you'll sleep every night. To feel..." He searched for the right words. "...safe...and wanted...and not so alone." He chuckled suddenly. "Must be nice." Despite the fact that he'd almost always been on his own, he found himself wondering if he was better suited to life with other cats. Maybe it's time I settled down, he thought. He stood for a while, just gazing at the lake. Wondering if, maybe, if he went back to the border in a few days... No, he decided. They'd never give me a chance. After the way those two behaved, I wouldn't be surprised if the rest of the Clan was just as hostile. But then again...that older cat seemed okay. He was left with a series of riddles and no easy answers. Insolitus sighed, deciding to give it a rest and find someplace to settle for the rest of the night.

"Mistake?" Mudswirl growled quietly to her sister, listening to the leader's words. Riverstone shook her head, almost ready to smack her paw to her forehead. "You spoke out of terms!"
"But you nodded at me when I did it!"
"I nodded at you bringing Shadowsoul back so fast!"
"But it was only one thing!"
"Speaking out of terms with an elder is insulting enough...imagine doing so with a clan leader"
Mudswirl lowered her head in shame, her sister brushing against her pelt in an attempt to comfort her

Sunclaw sat up and nodded. "I see that father," she said. "Stormheart is tempermental, but I don't think he's contagious." She purred in amusement.

Insolitus, giving up the search for his den, clawed his way up the nearest tree and curled up on a low branch close to the trunk. His eyes seemed to close of their own accord. He was more tired than he'd realized...he wasn't going to figure out his emotions in the span of one night anyway. With a quiet sigh, he surrendered to sleep.

"I hope not..." growled Wraith with mock worry, smirking as he continued on to the camp...

when he arrived, he headed towards where he expected Snowstar would be. "It seems my young aren't the only ones that need setting straight, Snowstar...your daughter Mudswirl also has that habit...it'd likely be a good idea to set her straight before it gets out of hand" growled the black tom...
