"Tough choice," Hawkclaw meowed, smiling faintly. "On one paw, the opportunity to bother an old friend until she feels the urge to claw my ears...on the other, a long, relaxing walk through the territory." Demontalon rolled her eyes. "Go on, you two," she meowed. "I should get back to the medicine den soon anyway, or I'll have half the Clan on my case."

Wraith chuckled. "In that case, let's go" growled the older tom as he began to walk towards the edge of the camp. Nightclaw followed, not wanting to be left behind...

"Well then, let's pick up the pace!" Renny replied, his stride quickening again. "I'd rather not get there by nightfall."

Insolitus lengthened his stride to match Renny's, stifling a sigh.

Hawkclaw followed as well, glancing back at Demontalon in time to see the black she-cat turn and make her way back into the medicine den. Good. She needs to rest that shoulder, as much as she dislikes being kept in camp.

Wraith walked towards the border, keeping his senses alert for any sign of intruders. he didn't know what else may have gotten across the border, and he had no intention of being taken by surprise. Nightclaw glanced around warily, wanting to at least make an effort to match his father's alert state...

Hawkclaw pricked her ears, keeping her steps light and nearly silent. She wasn't entirely sure why she'd been asked to join this patrol. Nightclaw she could understand; he was Shadowsoul's son. But her? She kept searching for a reason, and coming up with nothing. Except maybe that her leader didn't want her to feel like he wanted Nightclaw away from her...but even that made little sense. She kept turning the puzzle over in her mind, trying to figure it out.

"I'm expecting some....visitors, near the border. to my knowledge they won't be actively hostile, but regardless, keep your guard up. Thought you two might be interested, and i need to let what was said at the meeting soak in. I'd suggest giving Demontalon some time to rest. she's been through some tough situations and needs time to rest and recover from her wound. you can spend all the time you want with her when she's better" growled Wraith lowly, seemingly reading their minds. Nightclaw's ears perked up, realisation hitting him. perhaps that was why he had them come with him. to let Demontalon have some peace. he suddenly drooped, ashamed. had he been bothering Demontalon? was she actually getting weary of them, but too polite for the moment to tell them? she didn't seem the type, but still, perhaps she didn't want to chase off friends' company. he raised his head as he felt the light intensify around them. they were at the edge of the forest...and nearing the border...

As Renny got closer to Clan territory, the smell of cats became stronger, and the tom stopped a moment to sniff the air. "Smells funny... Is that the Clan cats?"

Hawkclaw flattened her ears, not quite knowing what to say. Demontalon was almost like a long-lost sister. She and her brothers had grown up alongside Hawkclaw, Mudswirl, Riverstone, and their missing brother, Fogcloud. Having her back was almost like having...her brother back. But if her leader wanted Demontalon left alone...well, it wasn't her place to challenge him. "Visitors?" she mewed, curious.

Insolitus took a deep breath. "Yeah, that's them." Inwardly, he cringed. He recognized one of the scents. One of the cats from his previous encounter with the Clans was here. "Jagara, give me strength," he whispered, so quietly he barely heard his own words.

"A few loners. apparently they've been showing some curiosity towards us" growled the tom as he walked. Nightclaw silently followed, curious about the source of the information, but preffering not to voice it now. they were close to the border, and any potential risk there was to them would be lessened if they could at least see the loners before they saw them...

Renny crept onward, a bit more cautiously this time, keeping a wary eye for any cats that might decide to show themselves...

Hawkclaw suddenly felt the urge to keep her head and tail low. Clanless cats didn't usually mean good news. Even if they were honestly just curious, memories of past encounters with rogues made her tail twitch nervously.

Insolitus stopped at the border, trying to ignore that his instincts were screaming at him to turn around and sprint back to the Moonpool. He kept his ears pricked and his claws carefully sheathed, not wanting to appear hostile.

as they cleared the forest, Wraith's eyes fell on the loners Bloodspill had warned him about. as she had said, they were wary not to risk hostility, staying just outside the border. to his surprise, one of the two was the loner that had been seen off two nights prior. "Well well...I see you've returned...and with a friend, at that" growled Wraith, making his presence known, Nightclaw doing his best to keep a neutral expression on his face, though he was uncomfortable with random loners on the clan border. as much as his father had taught him that no cat was to be treated hostile unless given proof, he couldn't help but feel that letting them give have the chance to show hostility may be too little too late to react...he kept his senses peeled for potential enemies hiding elsewhere...the thought of how his father had known they were coming when he had been on the opposite end of the lake, still pulling at his thoughts...

Insolitus wrapped his tail over his paws. "He insisted on meeting the Clans. What kind of cat would I be if I let someone so new to the forest wander around alone?" he meowed. He didn't deny being there, as others might in the face of strangers. Inwardly, he was wondering if this was pure coincidence, or if someone had spotted his approach and warned the other tom.

Hawkclaw eyed the strangers, both wary and curious. They didn't seem hostile...but then, looks could definitely be deceiving.

"...New to the forest, you say? an interesting situation. How exactly, is this cat new to the forest?" growled Wraith calmly, his tone completely neutral, the experienced tom's face blank of expression, Wraith turning his gaze onto the other tom, eyes narrowing inquisitively, as if expecting either one to answer his question. Nightclaw glanced between the two, wondering how his father knew the tom...was this, by chance, the loner he had been told about? the one that Mudswirl had been punished for speaking out in front of? the thought rolled in his mind for a bit...

"He told me he used to be a kittypet," the gray tabby tom mewed, his blue eyes showing brief puzzlement as he wondered, not for the first time, why Renny had left his Twolegs - or been abandoned by them.

Hawkclaw narrowed her eyes just a bit. Former kittypet? The brown cat didn't look it. He looked as scruffy as any forest cat did when compared to a healthy kittypet.

"I see....and does this former kittypet have a name?" growled Wraith, his eyes now shifting to the woody brown kittypet, amber gaze seemingly looking into the tom's very soul with their burning intensity. for now, he kept whether he believed the claim or not unknown. he'd get the answers and then decide. the kittypet looked a bit too...disheveled, to be one. but then he knew as well as any cat that living on your own quickly messed up one's fur. less than perfect grooming could easily result in such an appearance. he was also watching how th tom behaved. kittypets, having not been outside the twolegplaces they called home, would frequently find things intimidating, having experienced a few situations with kittypets where the mere sight of him intimidated them...a large, muscular, battlescarred tom was something to be wary of regardless, but kittypets especially seemed to fear what most normal clan cats would only be mildly wary of...

Renny's eyes had been glazed over during the conversation, as if in his own world, but swiftly went back into focus as Wraith turned to him. He stepped forward, mewing, "My masters called me Renny. I guess that's my name then..." Cocking his head, he stared at Wraith. "Are... you one of those Clan cats they've told me about?"

Wraith nodded. "You can call me Shadowsoul. I'm one of the two Leaders of Stormclan" he growled. "So Renny....How exactly did you come to be parted from the twolegs that cared for you?" he inquired, eying the kittypet, expression blank. Nightclaw stared curiously, wary but genuinely wanting to know...

Renny hesitated, looking around at the trees around them, as if he was afraid he was being watched. "I... uh... don't remember. Something about..." He paused again, looking around more agitatedly this time, muttering to himself very quietly, "It's there, always there, whispering, hissing, never quiet, never never never quiet, like a ghost in the trees..."
