Crusher looked at him curiously for a second, then nodded, and returned to the lesson. He growled "now, try to ram me, Diablo. practice is the only way to perfection".

Steeltalon jumped from her tree and yawned widely. "Man am I bored..." she muttered, looking around. She raked the trees with her gaze, looking for whatever had been watching them when they were scouting. "I sure could do with a scrap, but Night and Riptide are dead."

Suddenly her head shot up. "Of course!" she yelped. "Riptide was half-dead the last time I saw him. He might be dead now, but I can still remember him."

"A raptor with a black pelt and ice-blue eyes," Steeltalon's mother said in a hushed voice. "He goes by the name of Riptide. His second in command is Night, a raptor as black as night with a white scar above his left eye."

Steeltalon growled, forcing the memories away. She looked around again. "I told them I will wait until they leave. But if they refuse to go, they will find themselves with more than just a few bites."

Later that day, Soft foot and Sandstorm arrived back, they jumped into the cave. Sandstorm growled "Well Xanther isnt so much of a worm after all, he has already found a weakness, they go to the stream in pairs. Kill one, the other panics, the panic spreads, kill a few more and then bolt, easy easy."
Shadow leaf glanced up at him "I wish it was that easy, but it they will no doubt be expexting us to attack" Softfoot snarled "Is Steeltalon still here?" Quicktooth came with a reply "no she stalked off a while ago, shes really ticked off about clawfist."

Steeltalon started to pace the clearing she was in. She was by the stream, which was not that far from he caves. When Clawfist and the others left, she would know. Then she would move in and claim the territory she should have taken two years ago when she was last here. She spat angrily before crouching down behind a large tree. She would wait out the night if she had to.

Diablo didn't awnser, he charged forward and then swung up at the last minute, right in between Crusher's two little arms. Crusher was right, his skin was too tough to be harmed by a little predeator like Diablo. Perhaps he slammed on the stomach a bit to hard. Diablo felt a dizzing whirl of feeling, his wing like horns had almost bent on the force. A little bit dazed Diablo stepped back. "How was that?" he asked, shakeing his head to regain his thoughts.

After aimless hours of wandering and the extremely loud pounding of her feet on the ground, she picked up a scent of a large animal that was much large then her and the scent of some smaller dinosaurs. She could tell they were not very far away, a two minute walk but thought she best not suprise them so started to walk off wit her feet reverberating around the trees around her.

Crusher grunted at the blow. he growled "Very good, Diablo. that's the strongest blow any Carnotaur has ever done to me. you may well be on your way to being the most capable Carnotaur on the island. Now, the next thing i want you to do will require something to practice on. i'll show you the movement, and you'll execute it when we get a Para for you to practice it on". Crusher then positioned himself in a place that gave him a few feet in front and behind him, to give him room to demonstrate. he growled "Sometimes, in a fight, you'll be faced with a predator lunging forward at you from the front. what im going to teach you will allow you to dodge the attack, and quickly catch it off guard before it can recover from it's attack. Watch this". he then suddenly moved backwards while opening his mouth, his leg having been moved further back than usual, and him crouching at the same time. as he moved backwards and his mouth opened, he turned his head clockwise by 90 degrees, so that the side of his head was parallel to the ground. he moved back as far as he needed to dodge almost any blow aimed at him, and then lunged forward suddenly while slamming his jaws shut, unfortunately catching a compy in the process, which was chopped in half. Crusher got up into normal position, and growled "See? simple". he then looked at the Compy lower body on the ground, and growled "If your skilled enough, that kind of hit would be lethal to just about any predator that came at you, as long as it's small enough to attack like that. this was one i came up with to help me trip difficult to beat predators so that i could easily kill them. it lets you damage the leg enough so that it cant walk very well, and also trips it in the process because your jaw knocks the leg back a bit, making it trip. as long as your careful, it'll trip towards your head, over it, and onto it's other side after falling, the strength of the blow forcing the thing you attack to roll after hitting the ground". Crusher then thought of another thing to teach him that would be handy. he could think of 2 very useful ones. he growled "The last 2 things i want to teach you now are the constrictor bite and the tail whip. firstly, the tail whip". Crusher then angled himself next to a rather thick tree. he growled "Watch". he then whipped the tree with his tail, keeping his tail stiff while doing it and making it shake slightly. he then did it again, but this time, let his tail losely swing into the tree, with the same amount of force. the hit made the tree shake more obviously, and made several leaves fall to the ground, and make the birds in neighboring trees leave their perches. he growled "Did you notice the second was more powerful?". Diablo gave him a nod. Crusher growled "Well ,i hit it with the same strength. the first one was what most large predators do. the stiffen their tails as the whip the target. but, keeping it loose causes much more damage. i've knocked over predators my size and larger with hits like that. the trick is to have your tail remain as loose as possible, as if you weren't using it. let it hang from the base of your tail. that way, the bulk of the tail isn't in one position. it's not prevented from going with the tail itself. when it's stiff, it stops when you stop swinging. when it's loose, it keeps going until something stops it. that makes it much more powerful against predators. now, you try it. first do it the way you used to, and then do it how i tought you. you'll notice the difference"...

The pack returned after a sucessful hunt. SharpClaw was sleeping next to her hatchling and didn't wake up until she was gently pushed by Rawhide. She growled from being awoken and stood up to see her mate, carrying a chunk of meat in his jaws for their hatchling. He dropped the meat in the nest and watched with interest as their son poked it with his snout, then gaze up at both his mother and father. "Eat it," SharpClaw cooed to her little one. "It's ok."

The little one sniffed it at first, then took a small bite out of it. He found that he liked it and continued eating. SharpClaw turned her gaze from the baby to look at her mate. She noticed that Blade was here, but Exile wasn't. "Where's Exile?"

"She went to take the sentries and waiting raptors to the carcass. You go and join them." He gave his mate a gentle push with his snout. "I will take over the watching."

SharpClaw nodded and headed out into the jungle to follow the scent of the pack. She was soon greeted by a small pack of raptors chowing down on a Parasaur corpse. SharpClaw cautiously walked over to the haunches of the dead dinosaur and started to take her fill of the meat.

The pack gathered in the main area of the cave. Softfoot barked out "alright, we have to move now, we are going to get a strong foothold in the trees the moment we arrive so be on on the look out, as clawfsit is hindered by his wound I will be taking over for now. Lets move" The pack nodded and exited, Clawfist supported by quicktooth. Sandstorm hissed "watch your backs, Steeltalon tore off into the jungle and might try attack us, shes gone completely crazy. Why I dont understand."
Shadow leaf growled "yes, she seemed quite nice besides her occasional fits of anger, a bit unstable but otherwise ok. We dont have to worry about her, she will go to Fatalis and hang around with him for sure. It seems all predators are attracted to Crushers territory, its odd.
Darktooth hissed "odd, but very usefull, the more predators that are attacking his territory the less attacking ours."

Steeltalon watched the pack leave. She was waiting for the right time to move in and claim the caves. Gone crazy have I? she thought angrily. If only they knew...but they don't, and that works for me. The less dinosaurs that do know, the better. She paused to look around.

When they were out of sight, she paced the clearing a few times. A few minutes went by, and the only thing she could hear was the wind teasing the leaves of the trees and the babble of the nearby stream. Steeltalon was sure they were gone, so she poked her head into the cave. Already the scent was beginning to fade. I'm sorry, Shadowleaf. But your kind of pack life is the kind I used to live before I changed my ways. Going back to my old ways would mean suicide. I really think I'm better off alone.

She slipped inside the cave and looked around. Clawfist's blood was still fresh on the ground. She sniffed it, recoiling from the familiar scents. A pang of longing stirred emotions she didn't want. "Regret isn't the way of a true fighter," she growled, echoing her father's words. "When one is truly strong, they never feel anything except instinct. Anything else could prove fatal."

She brought moss into the cave and did her best to cover the scent of blood. Alone again, she thought. Just like old times. I really was better off before I had to work in a pack.

Diablo did not hesitate to give off a tail wip, his way, to the tree. It slammed into the bark sending small shards flying, the tail was stiff and gave a brute gutting force. Diablo was pleased with the reasult but tried it Crusher's way. The fact was though, Diablo's tail was stiff by nature. It creeped in an almost diaganal direction, upwards. It was stiff and only waved slightly during his walk. He tried it Crusher's way anyways. Diablo wound up a hit to the tree with his tail as loose as it could get. It coiled around the trunk almost completely then wipped back to it's normal, stiff position. It didn't seem as effective.

Crusher growled "Well, i was half expecting that. as i may have mentioned earlier, not all my techniques will be useful for you. still, it's just one of many skills that you can use to fight with. for now, i have only 2 things to show you. both need prey to practice it on. let's go...". Crusher then turned and started heading for the plains. a Para would be the perfect thing to practice this on. first they'd try the dodging bite which he had taught Diablo earlier. he'd hold the Para in place while Diablo tried it. after that, he'd demonstrate one of his most dangerous moves; the constrictor bite...

Diablo followed. He was indeed excited. He was testing it on prey. God, this was going to be so cool! Diablo ran out into the plains but didn't leave the forest line, he waited for Crusher to catch up.

The pack reached the plains. It was only a small run till they were home. Softfoot only wished they were here under more pleasant cirrcumstances.
She barked out " The seocond we enter the forest climb up a tree. Then we will meet with Xanther and disscuss where we should go from there." The pack nodded silently and continued out across the plains.

Steeltalon sighed, settling down on the sandy ground. She was reflecting on her past, and all the mistakes she had made. She wondered if it was a mistake to return to being a loner. She shook that thought from her mind as soon as it formed.

"I may be alone again, but Fatalis was right. It's much easier to just look out for yourself and no one else." she muttered under her breath. Much of her time had been spent like this lately. She would recall old memories, open up old wounds, and figure out what she could've done to change her life then. She got up and scented the air. Trees, typical of where she was. Compies, also typical. The stream. And something else...

It was an old scent of Fatalis. It was fading by now, but definately him. Steeltalon wondered where he was now. Probably deep in Crusher's territory. She sighed and wondered what her mother would tell her to do. Steeltalon was very young when her mother was killed, but she could easily tell what Jade would say. Jade, Steeltalon's mother.

"What should I do, mother?" Steeltalon whispered. Should I hunt down Fatalis or Clawfist? Maybe try to join a pack? What should I do?

Sandstorm ran ahead of the pack to look for predators. His colour blended him in well with the dusty ground but some of the other raptors would be seen from miles away. He had always wondered what had caused their colour to shift. In his pack the main colour was a more natrul orange and black but some raptors for some reason had odd colours. An old predjuydice arose from a foolish pack leader, who was oddly colored making man of the older raptors belive the ones with different colours were weaker. That was one reason they had surrvived. When the pack was unwittingly running toward the stampede, Softfoot had fallen, the group stopped to make sure she was ok while the rest of the pack ran on. Slices brother and Softfoots brother had both stopped aswell, but their parents dragged them on hopeing they would survive. Choosing them over Softfoot and slice due to their normal colour. Of course, the adult raptors along with their children were caught by the stampede and crushed. Softfoot had been the most hurt, she had been close to her brother and it took a few days for it too sink that he and her parents were dead. But still she often hoped he had survived some how. He sighed, that day tore their whole life to shreds. As he was turning his head to look back, he couldve swore he had seen an odd shimer or disstortion in the jungle, but he ignored it and continued.

Crusher saw an elderly Para in the clearing, and it was starting to run because of Diablo's entry. Crusher was in the mood for some exercise. he charged forward, knocking trees out of his way as he went, ramming out of the forest with a terrifying roar. he charged forward, quickly gaining on the herd, at the end of which was the elderly Para. Crusher sped up to full speed, and was by it's side in seconds, leaving Diablo in his dust. Crusher looked at the Para for a moment, being careful not to lose his balance as he ran, knowing a mistake could be fatal, and locked his jaws shut on it's back, being as careful as he could not to kill it, as a dead target was useless as practice. his bite was tight enough to paralyze it temporarily, but not enough to be lethal. it slowed down, as did Crusher, and he waited for a few minutes until Diablo caught up. when he had, he growled "Now, practice the dodging bite i showed you earlier. the legs will be what you need to dodge"...

Steeltalon looked up, listening hard to her surroundings. She thought she heard a far-off roar, but now she wasn't so sure. She had been drinking from the stream, her eyes wide and her nostrils flared. She was taking no chances now that she was alone. She looked around again, hoping to see nothing. She knew now that she had heard a far-off roar, so far in the distance she almost didn't catch it, but she definately knew who the roar belonged to. Crusher. She carefully scanned her surroundings again. Was Crusher's territory being invaded? Steeltalon wasn't going to take that chance. She snatched a large Compy and darted into the cave.

Fatalis left, seeing that it wasn't his place to speak. this was basically one big family, and right now, they were re-meeting eachother for the first time in a long while, so he decided to leave them. he jumped up into a tree, and sped off. he decided he'd explore the island. his friends, the other Lone Wolves, were probably loaded with new information about what was happening lately, and he was in the mood for some new news. he shot off, and after a couple of hours, was out of Crusher's territory, and entering one of the Lone Wolves' favourite meeting places. one of many spread throughout the island, all of which being small havens which most other predators cant reach.

As Fatalis neared the meeting spot, he picked up the scent of another Raptor. it was a familiar, unpleasent one. it was one of his old mutated pack members. he bore his teeth, his killing claws pulled up into a ready position, his eyes widening to take in everything around him. he kept going towards the haven, but just as he was coming close, a raptor bark came from above, in one of the trees around him. his breathing hard, his mind working furiously to come up with a plan, to catch what was in the trees. then, he saw them. 2 sets of red, glowing eyes, and 3 yellow ones. One of the red sets moved as the raptor revealed itself, jumping out of the tree and landing on the ground in front of him. the mutant was typical, a dark reddish brown back with a greyish stomach, the 2 colours split by a white stripe. the only unusual thing was that this one had pure black quills over it's head, instead of red ones like the other mutants had. it said "Ahhh....Fatalissss...it'sss been a while. why do you avoid usssss so much? im sure we're not that menaccccing...". at that, the yellow sets disappeared, and a set of glistening teeth appeared below the other set of red eyes. the raptor lunged out of the tree. this one had a scar over it's right eye, going downward to the mouth and stopping halfway through the lower jaw. Fatalis swished his tail as he hissed "Why wont you leave me alone? you know as well as i do that im not responsible for this. it was a thing that none of us could've avoided". the raptor hissed "Ahh, but you dont seem to see that your foolish playing led the beast straight to us. and even if you were telling the truth, your condition proves otherwise. unlike us, you haven't returned to the pack, and your not one of ussss...". Fatalis hissed "I learned years ago that being in a pack meant trouble. alone, your much harder to track, and only need to worry about yourself. in a pack, you have far too many responsibilities. un-needed responsibilities for me. and why should the attack be considered my fault just because i had the mental strength to avoid drinking the water? that part of it was your fault alone. i have nothing to do with your weakness". the raptors hissed, and the second one snarled "We are not weak! you are! We are no longer the weaklings we used to be, and never will be again! we are the most intelligent, powerful, skilled and speedy of all raptors. we are PERFECT, unlike you, you disgusting abomination". Fatalis hissed "I think i'd rather be an abomination than an insane predator that only hunts for it's basic needs, and ignores the other important things in life". at this, the raptors hissed again, and one jumped forward, and hissed "silence, you insignificant insect, or we'll crush you like the Brachiosaur dung that you are!". Fatalis hissed "It is not your place to stop me. NO ONE stops me. i am not part of your pack anymore, and never will be again. i dont care what you think of me. i am a Lone Wolf, a survivor, superior to you, and proud of it! and nothing you say can make me change my ways". the raptor hissed "We never tried, you fool.we want you to suffer as we have suffered. we want all the survivors to suffer the pains we suffered during our lives after the attack. and now....the time....has come...to...DIE!". at that, the raptor lunged forward, the one next to it joining it, and 2 raptors jumped at him from either side, and one jumping at him from behind. as the 4 raptors lunged at him, he jumped upward, making them collide with eachother. he then ran off into the trees as fast as he could, going ever higher as he went, to try and lose them, before they could recover and chase him. it worked. after half an hour of climbing and running, he was high above in the trees, and the raptors walked past him below, not noticing him, "You FOOL! WE WERE SUPPOSED TO JUST KILL HIM! NOW HE KNOWS FOR SURE WE WANT HIM DEAD, AND HE'LL BE TWICE AS DIFFICULT TO FIND!!!" Snarled the Scar-faced raptor to the other one. one of the yellow eyed raptors, the females, hissed "SILENCE! It's over now. there's nothing we can do. let's just return to the nest, and later we'll recollect our ideas on what to do about this pest. it's no help that Night was killed by a vengeful lone wolf from a pack he and Riptide wiped out. that one needs to pay as well. she killed our most important ally, our key to killing Fatalis. maybe we'll pay her a visit...". the raptors walked away silently, and Fatalis was left stunned. these raptors knew Night? they knew Steeltalon? if this was the case, they probably had a plan on what to do with Steeltalon and him. that meant trouble for both of them. as soon as they were out of hearing distance, Fatalis ran as fast as he could for Steeltalon's territory, to inform her of the situation, and to learn as much as possible about Night and Riptide as he could...
