"I told you we'd see each other soon," a soft voice breathed. Yoruichi had no time to react as her upper arm was grabbed and held in a tight grip. She turned her head, trying to see who was behind her. Orange hair, amber eyes, faintly mocking smirk. Yoruichi felt her eyes widen.
"Surprised to see me, thin-blood?" the other girl said, raising an eyebrow. "Don't worry. You'll get used to the sight of me." The black-haired demon frowned and opened her mouth to ask the questions fizzing on the tip of her tongue, but closed it when the other let out a soft hiss. "You're pathetic, you know that? No control. None. You barely know how to fight. You mostly get by because your nature kicks in and saves your worthless hide." Amber eyes narrowed scornfully. "If it wasn't for the fire in your veins you'd be long dead."
Angry and stung, Yoruichi tried to wrench away, only to yelp as the fingers holding her arm tightened and heated, as if the other girl was about to summon flames. She heard another long, slow hiss. "Don't...tempt me, thin-blood. It wouldn't take much to finish you. A good hit in the right place would snap your neck." Hearing this, Yoruichi went very still. "What do you want?" she asked softly.
"What I want is irrelevant," the amber-eyed demon growled. "What I've come to do is what matters. You're a disgrace to demonkind. Useless. Weak. So...I've got to show you how to survive. Because, no matter what you've heard...no matter what you've been promised...no matter what your friends" - she spat the word out as if it left a foul taste in her mouth - "say...you probably can't trust their word."
Yoruichi let out a growl of her own. "Says you. I trust them."
"Trust," the amber-eyed teen nearly purred. "Such a pretty word. Humans throw it around carelessly. As if trusting others is all they need to do." She paused. "Wearing your heart on your sleeve," she added in a low hiss, "and giving the first person who helps you your alliance...is an almost certain way to get yourself killed. What it boils down to is this - how well do you know the ones you stand with?" That made Yoruichi hesitate. She knew Gaara's story - thought she was safe with him. In fact she was almost sure she was. But the others? She frowned, troubled.
"Exactly," the amber-eyed demon growled, apparently taking Yoruichi's silence as some sort of answer. She released Yoruichi's arm. "What's your name, thin-blood?"
"Yoruichi," the black-haired girl murmured. The other nodded, allowing Yoruichi to stand. "Call me Ira. Now follow me. Try to keep up." Wings suddenly burst from her back. Yoruichi released her own wings and followed Ira into the skies. She couldn't help one last backward glance. Would she ever see this place again? "Don't look back," Ira snapped. "And don't fall behind. I don't have time to look for you if you get lost." She put on a burst of speed. Yoruichi followed, now forced to keep her eyes on Ira's form.
