As SharpClaw was trying to tear open one raptor, the other two raptors leaped on her and tried to get her off. One bit at her neck and she let out a screech and went for the raptor who bit her. This one was a darker shade of orange than the others and had scars over his neck and along the hip. The raptor who was down and had blood dripping from his tender neck and belly slowly got up, splurting out blood as he gaped open his mouth, reaching for a breath of air. Already, he was conversing with the other raptor on a plan...

Then, they started it. The two pounced on SharpClaw and rolled her off of the darker colored raptor. She got scratched on the snout and along the left side of her body. She got up, but staggered. All three raptors stood up, facing her, ready to pounce. SharpClaw let out a warning snarl, but she knew she was outnumbered and hurt. Her side ached and her snout stinged...

Hunter saw it as the perfect time to interrupt. he hadn't seen anyone else in the area, the 3 raptors weren't aware of his presence, and SharpClaw needed him now more than ever. he charged forward in a ramming position, with his head held as low as possible. the Raptors took a few seconds to respond, but it was too late. Hunter was at their sides, and swung his head upwards, launching the 3 raptors several feet into the air. he then charged forward, and ate the most wounded of the 3, who SharpClaw had attacked first, whole. he then swung his tail into another one. it was pinned against a tree, it's ribs crushed between Hunters powerful tail and the tree's thick trunk. the 3rd raptor, which had dark skin, decided to run. Hunter, who was sure the raptor he had just tail-whiped wouldn't be getting up again, snarled "Are you ok, SharpClaw? what's going on?"

The bloodlust vanished once the three raptors were dead. She nodded to Hunter in thanks and replied with a dark tone to her voice. "They killed them," she said, glaring at the dead rotting bodies of the two remaining raptors. "They are with Shadow," she snarled.

Otalp lead Scar through the forest, towards what he had described as "a place to start practicing." Somewhere off in the distance, he could hear the sounds of a nesting ground, but judging from the location and the exact sounds, it was one he hadn't been to before.

As the sun arose over the horizon, Scar saw it: A Pacheycephleosaur nesting ground, probably ones with newly hatched young. It would have been easy prey, if the Pacheys didn't have a dome of solid bone on their heads. They stopped near the edge of the nesting ground, and Otalp asked, You ever try to raid a Pachy nest?

No. Usually just hadrosaur and sauropod nests. I always considered it to difficult to even try attackign a nest like this.

Usually, it is. However, if you're desperate and know your opponent's flaws, it's very easy to raid a nest like this. Or any nest, really. Watch the Pachys for a few minutes. Tell me what you notice about them.

Scar watched the Pacheycephleosaurs. He noticed two males get into a fight over in the corner, he wasn't sure what it was for, though he decided it was probably a spur-of-the-moment act of aggression. They're rather competitive, he noted. In another area, a Dromaeosaur dared to try to get at one of the hatchlings, and another Pachy charged at it and sent the Dromaeosaur running. They also seem to be protective of eachother.

Exactly! And can you think of any way to exploit either of those traits? Otalp watched Scar as he tried to think of a plan to attack the pachys. All of the standard tactics probably wouldn't work here.

No, I can't think of anything. I suppose you have?

Indeed I have. You're about to learn an important lesson in improvisation. The raptor emerged from the jungle and walked along the edge of the clearing, careful not to attract attention form the Pacheycephleosaurs. Scar watched him carefully, ready to help if the old raptor found himself overwhelmed...

Darkness finally rose from his sleep. The pain he felt now was exactly like the pain he felt when his pack had been lost. He was starving,he was dehidrated, and his pride was scared forever. The black raptor stumbled toward a small stream and quickly gulped the water down. His thirst satisfied, Darkness walked toward an open plain. His luck finally changed when he spotted a half-eaten corpse. He greedly ate the corpse and rested in the bushes beside it. He thought about what to do next. Last time he was awake he was trying to find the exiled Scar. Scar.... Darkness snarled. The mention of that name made him almost burst with anger. I risked my life fighting Shadow, I risked my life tracking Scar, and all that beast could do was to leave me to die? Darkness snarled to himself. He didn't know what happened to the pack, but he hoped they were ok. I know that sad excuse for a raptor will kill the pack. Darkness growled. We need Scar... Darkness continued. He had enough resting. He got up and walked toward the direction of the cave, its path ingraved into his mind. Darkness knew the pack needed Scar but he was not about to be kind to him. Scar had done something that himself couldn't bare. He had destroyed Darkness's pride by disrespecting him. Even after Shadow did the same thing to Scar. Darkness growled at the thought and smelled a farmilar scent. A raptor.....and a tyrannosaur... Darkness growled. He was to weak to know who they were. He stumbled forward and looked through the bushes at the two dinosaurs.....

"Shadow took over the pack. He defeated Scar. Those raptors killed my young. I only have one egg left," continued SharpClaw with a sorrowful bark. She caught the scent of another raptor and knew who it was. It was Darkness. The female followed the scent and it led to Darkness. He looked very weak. "Darkness," SharpClaw barked softly as she gently nudged him. "Are you ok? What happened?"

Scar watched as Otalp boldly walked into the nesting grounds. A few Pacheys turned and stared at him, amazed at his stupidity. Then Otalp walked over to a nest, and picked up a hatchling Pachey. The bold, and incredibly foolish act drew that attention of one of the hatchling's parents. It charged, and Otalp dropped the hatchling and ran, heading towards the edge of the clearing.

Halfway through, Otalp hesitated and instead turned and charged right back at the Pachey. He quickly jumped to the side, avoiding the Pachey's dome head and quickly running back to snatch up another hatchling. Though another Pachey was waiting for him, it only took another moment of hesitation for him to react. He leaped at the stupid herbivore and clung to its flesh, not even trying to really attack the Pachey.

Then Scar realised why Otalp had jumped onto the Pachey-another one barreled towards him, and when the mutant dropped, the two Pacheys promptly slammed into eachother. In the tangle of scales and limbs, Otalp easily snatched up a hatchling. While the other Pacheys looked on in dumb surprise at the two now-fighting Pacheys, Otalp was able to easily slip back into the jungle.

That, the mutant growled as he approached, Is how to improvise. Otalp bit down on the Pachey and sanpped its neck, then dropped the corpse on the ground.

I already know how to improvise, Scar growled. What was the point of showing me that?

Tell me this: did you improvisation work? Obviously, it didn't, otherwise I wouldn't be talking to you. You've grown too used to simply hunting stupid defenseless hadrosaurs, your intelligence had been un-needed and atrophied away. Now, we're going to bring it back. You are going to raid 4 nests around the island, each with a differant denizen that should help revive the instinctual intelligence and abilities that we have been given by nature. Now come on, we have a Dilophosaur nest to raid.

Scar snarled, this raptor was getting stranger and stranger all the time. But he had no where else to go, nothing else to do, and little else to lose, so what was the harm?

I'm......I'm fine. I went looking for Scar and he decided to knock me out and to leave me there to die. I don't know how long I have been out... growled Darkness slowly. He was going to collapse soon. How is the pack? Is everything ok Sharpclaw? Darkness growled as he saw the look on Sharpclaw's reptilian face.

Hunter snarled "Shadow's apparently killed SharpClaw's hatchlings...and i think my dad's there....i've heard a couple of roars so far; one was a battle roar, the other a messenger roar, telling me and probably almost every rex on the island that Scar had been exiled and that they were to watch out for him, and help him return to the nest if they found him. at the very least, the rexes will be VERY careful of what raptor they attack. none of them want to get my dad mad....a little while ago, when i heard the battle roar, Lightning was uncomfortable. she looked like she was going to run. i also saw another rex break into an all out run in the opposite direction from where the roar came from. i have a feeling that something bad is going to happen if things aren't straightened out soon". He waited for a response...

Exile snarled with rage as Shadow retreated into the caves depths. She had had enough of him. She walked over to the corpse of the old female raptor. Shaking her head, she dragged it outside with Blades help. The last thing the pack needed was to have to look at one of their friends who had been savagely killed. It was bad enough having to witness it.

"Blade" She hissed quietly, and the raptor drew near "I can't take this raptor! Is there anyway we could drive him off? Maybe even kill him?" Blade shook his head. "If he overcame Scar, what chance do we have? He was older and more experianced than us. We're just gonna have to live with it, until the others return."

Exile hissed to herself in annoyance. Suddenly, Shadow appeared at the cave entrance, his raptor guards behind him. "You two" He barked dryly "Get inside now. We need your energy for tonights hunt. I doubt any of the old raptors will be able to cope with it, so i need the young more than ready."

Exile looked at him astonished "But the old raptors never come on the hunt. They aren't able to anymore. They will only himder our formation."

Shadow barked in laughter "Well, we need something as bait for the large carnivores which hunt at night."

Exile roared in rage and flung herself at Shadow. It was unexpected by him, and she was almost on top of him, claws outstretched, pure hatred in her eyes. Suddenly, a raptor had leapt in her way and pushed her to the floor. Exile let out a bark of pain, and struggled to get up. The raptor walked over to her, and outstretched it's lethal toe claw over her neck.

"No!" Blade screamed, and ran over to her. The rest of the guard raptors surrounded him, slight snarls escaping their lips.

"Keep him there." Shadow ordered, then turned to the raptor pinning Exile. "Punish her"

The claw was immediatly brought donw, and was raked across her side. She roared in pain, and immediatly turned to the wound. It wasn't deep enough to be fatal. It was just enough to cause immense pain. The raptors turned back around and re-entered the cave. Shadow stopped at the entrance again, and turned around to face them.

"By the way" He growled, pure evil dancing in his eyes "I will still expect you on tonights hunt. And if i don't get a good effort out of you, you will meet the same fate as the old female..." He barked in laughter and turned back into the cave...

Crusher was just about to charge forward when Shadow moved into the cave, out of his immediate reach. he had had enough of it. he wouldn't stand for it any longer. he roared in rage and swung his tail into the side of the cave, being careful not to hit it too hard, to avoid bringing down the old, loose rocks inside. the effect was perfect. a single rock fell loose from the ceiling, and fell right in front of Shadow, crushing the little boulder in front of him to dust, and sliding towards him slowly. the noise and damage done to the cave was enough to unnerve a large number of pack members. they knew full well Crusher could bring down the entire cave on top of their heads. Crusher snarled "Remember Shadow, if you even try to kill her, or any of the others, you had better prepare yourself for a very painful end!". Shadow hissed. he had mixed emotions of fear and hatred for the massive Tyrannosaur, but couldn't do anything at the moment. Although he could muster up a large roup of raptors in the pack to try and fight off Crusher, he doubted many of them were loyal enough to do it. they'd probably turn around and run back into the cave, fearing for their lives......"cowardly lot of pathetic lizards...they dont diserve to be called Raptors..." he thought....

Think fast! Came the hiss from behind Scar.

Wha-!? The attack came from the side, slamming into his wound and sending Scar sprawling. 2 claws dug into his side, opening up the old wounds Shadow had given him. Otalp entered hsi field of veiw, his claws dripping with blood.

Improvise, you idiot! Try to attack me! Otalp was testing him, trying to see what Scar had learned. He stood up, still dazed from the first attack, and faced Otalp. The mutant attacked first, leaping towards Scar. He ducked, barely missing Otalp's claws.

Scar turned at Otalp, and lunged. The old raptor jumped to the side, then leaped again and hit him in the side. Vary your strategy! Act randomly! You're far too predictable!

Dazed, Scar could barely stand up. He lunged forward, and missed, as Otalp again jumped to the side, but the mutant didn't attack him like he had earlier. Instead the raptor turned and ran, slipping out of view behind a fallen tree. Scar followed, weary for a trap similiar to the one like Shadow had used.

Then, the attack came from the front: the mutant appeared from nowhere, then leaped and kicked the Scar in the face. When he came to, Otalp was watching him, his head cocked, the single red eye looking at him with some unreadable emotion: concearn, or perhaps sadness? Scar couldn't tell.

Finally, you're awake. You're easier to fool into a trap than a hatchling hadrosaur, no wonder your evil brother managed to defeat you.

Shadow isn't evil, Scar growled. He's just... He just didn't think that I was right for the pack.

Hmmm... Otalp sounded bemused. Anyways, come on, we should get to the Dilophosaur nest. You ever seen a Dilophosaur?

Scar growled a no, and Otalp simply said, Then you'll find yourself rather unpleasently surprised. They're not to smart and they're not to strong, but they have a secret weapon up there frill. I'll explain on the way...

Darkness soon fell on the island. Exile was lying in a corner of the cave. Her wound had stopped bleeding, finally, but it was serverly painful. Blade had tried the best he could to help, but in the end he couldn't work wonders. And they both were expected on the hunt, which was drawing near.

Soon, Shadow once again emerged from the cave's depths. "Alright everyone, time for the hunt. Remember the formations i told you" Exile growled. She did not approve of this hunt in any way. Shadow had lied to the older raptors, telling them to run towards a predator if one appeared. Pretended that was what they all were doing, it would confuse the attacker, he had said.

Shadow peered in her direction, and Exile averted her gaze. The last thing she needed was another confrontation.

The raptors began to move, heading out of the cave an into the jungle. Exile peered around at the raptors. Even some of the juvenilles had been brought. She shook her head, hiding the anguish she felt inside. They were all heading for a death trap.

"And if we aren't," Exile thought bitterly "If the hunt is successful, the rest of the pack will accept Shadow as their leader."

Exile stared up at the moon high above, looking down upon them. It was a lose-lose situation...

Crusher snarled when he saw Shadow appear. he had overheard what he had said to Exile. he then he thought of what Shadow would do when he ran out of elderly raptors to use as bait...
he decided he'd follow them on the hunt...to so that he would be there if Shadow dared to attack the ones who had treated him like a relative....like part of the pack...

The darkness was slightly unnerving to Exile. Her senses were dimmed slightly, causing her to often jump at mere shadows. The raptor group moved silently and swiftly through the night, Shadow leading. They had moved out onto an open plain, tall grass hiding their scaly bodeis from sight.

Soon, grunting could be heard from the distance. The whole pack cocked their heads, staring in direction of the noise. Shadow stepped forward, his feet making no sound as they hit the floor. He peered through gaps in the grass around him, and found the source of the noise.

An old, ill Triceraptops lay there, grunting feebly. It had abviously been left behind from the pack, being to weak to keep up. The herbivore kept looking around and moaning its pain. It tried to struggle to its feet, but collapsed soon after doing so.

Shadow turned around to face the raptors to tell them what to do...

Crusher looked out through the trees a short distance away, and stared the Triceratops directly in the face. He made sure his eyes glowed a bright shade of red by thinking of some of the worst moments of his life; ones that angered him. The Triceratops became uncomfortable with the very fast, very scary change that was occuring in the face of the massive Tyrannosaur only about 50 meters away, and started struggling to get up, trying as best it could to get up so that it could get away from him. Crusher's plan was working well so far. if a raptor tried attacking it in this state, it would most likely skewer it on it's horns. if things went wrong, and Shadow tried to hurt any of his friends among the pack members there, he would charge out, and make sure that whatever was being planned would be ruined...

Shadow watched the Triceratops suddenly spooked and tried to get up with interest. Something was in the bushes around them... He knew this would happen. A large carnivore could not ignore the scent of a dying triceratops for long.

He turned around again to the pack "Alright, you three approach from the right, you four from the left. This will be a careful attack, the Trike looks angered and scared. Remember..." He turned to the elder raptors "Any sign of any large carnivore at all, run at them. It will confuse them."

Exile growled loudly at this, prompting Shadows stare. He wasn't prepared to let this Trike go. It could be ages before they find something else.

He barked loudly and the raptors darted from the cover of the grass. Exile only growled her annoyance. If she could finish this attack soon, it would reduce the chance of a carnivore coming to attack, saving the rapotrs lives...

Crusher watched them move. he was about to charge in when he smelled another large predator in the area...an Allosaurus by the smell of it. sure enough, a large dark blue coloured predator with yellow stripes on it's back came into view. it started roaring and headed towards the pack. Crusher would've jumped in and protected them, but he knew what would probably happen. Shadow, worried about the success of the hunt, would command the pack to attack. the ones who were loyal to him would charge, following his orders. the intelligent ones who still followed Scar, would either make a run for it, or move back. if he saw it was getting out of hand, he would charge in, and scare it off or kill it...

Do you see that, Scar? Otalp asked. He glanced behind them, looking into the darkness beyond. I think we're being watched. And probably following us.

Scar looked, tried to see something in the black night. It was difficult, and his eyes weren't used to the darkness; he had always been a diurnal hunter. Shadow was the night hunter, and he was probably dragging the pack around on some foolish hunting expedition. No, I don't see anything. What is it?

It's a Tyrannosaur. Dark blue, probably about average size. I think it's hunting us. Come on, let's get out of here. I know a place where we'll be safe. And stop looking over your back, if it sees you following us then it'll have no reason to keep tracking us and will just bolt for us. Scar asked about the dilophosaur nest. [/i]We'll worry about that later, right now we should get to a safe location for the night. And I know just the place, with a group of old allies of mine.

The raptors had just surrounded the dying Triceratops when the roar was heard. Exile span around to face the predator to be confronted by a blue Allosaur. She growled her annyoance and anger. "Why did it have to come now?" She thought angrily.

Remember Shadow's orders, she turned instantly towards the elderly raptors, who were looking at eachother, unsure of what to do. Shadow barked at them, running up to one of them and nipping it's tail, forcing it to move. The raptor growled angriliy, but began to run towards the Allosaur, the rest of the elders following suit. Exile barked as loud as she could. "Why were they so stupid?" She didn't have time to consider the fact that they were actually scared of Shadow, so she sprinted off after them, towards the Allosaur.

The predator growled with slight confusion as quite a few raptors could be seen running towards it. however, it quickly overcame it, and charged forward. It's stomach was empty, it hadn't eaten for days. It wasn't going to let any raptors get in the way of its meal. They might even make good starters...
