From loose Earth to hard packed soil, David drove the growling Humdinga into the long grass. The foliage bent to its will, being forced underneath its hulking metal body and forming a flat path through the expanse of plant life. Smoke rose into the air, the aftermath of an explosion of sorts, most likely a grenade, its blast radius marked by charred grass blades shredded by shrapnel. "We get them out of one mess and they fall head first into another. ******* lovely." David said to Jacob over the Humdinga's roar. Something was after the group ahead, and with Jacob's vantage point from the Humdinga's roll cage, he'd be able to pick off anything that came at the vehicle with the turret.

"Isn't that always the way it works?" said Jacob with a grunt as he took aim, scanning the surrounding area with the turret. the smell of gunpowder and blood hung heavily in the air, overwhelming the scents of the environment. At the rate things were going, Jenkins wouldn't even get the chance to betray the team. They'd all be dead by the time they got there by the dinosaurs themselves. Still, even if they failed, Jacob wouldn't...He would make sure of that...

Heavy footfalls resonated around the edge of the tall grass, the foliage parting to reveal a male Tyrannosaur sniffing audibly. Attracted to the area by the sounds of the struggle, the massive creature immediately identified the two fallen humans still lying in the grass, smelling the blood. Despite the chase going on in front of it, the Tyrannosaur lumbered over to the first of the casualties, intent on exploiting the situation for a free meal. As it approached, its reptilian eyes glanced in the direction of the vehicle, only to focus back on its meal a moment later...

The combination of the vehicle's growling engine and the scent and sound of an approaching Rex gave the Alpha Male pause, and the Deinonychus' head snapped up to look in that direction. Barnes took his chance. He lurched backwards, scrambling for his nearby shotgun, which he grabbed just barely. Before the male could react, Barnes brought the butt of the weapon up and smacked the raptor in the head. The Alpha Male, stunned, toppled over with a startled squawk, and the nearby female lunged forward, prepared to strike the killing blow herself. Barnes, however, was the faster one this time. A single pull of the trigger was all he needed to blow the Deinonychus' chest open in a spray of blood and send her flying backwards. The male struggled weakly to recover, and Barnes took the opportunity to stagger carefully to his feet, looking for the others. They needed to get out of here before that Rex got too close...

"They are a waste of a contract fe- holy ****..." David muttered, replying to Jacob at first before the bull Tyrannosaurus appeared. His massive head was directed at them for what seemed like seconds before he was off scouring the tall grass, clearly looking for a meal. Be it dead raptors or dead mercenaries, his concern was feeding, not targeting the men of the operation. David steered the Humdinga out of his way, giving the massive animal a wide berth and eying to make sure its focus remained on scavenging. "Well, good to see they are not all like Sue" David commented as the Humdinga passed

With an enraged shriek, the alpha female raptor pounced on the human from behind, bowling him over and knocking the weapon from his hands. Her jaws snapped at his neck, clawed fingers digging deep into his shoulders, her sickle-shaped claws drawn back and seconds away from a devastating double blow.

"Don't stop for anyone. If there are as many of these things out here as it sounds like, we'll be torn apart if we slow down" warned Jacob as he scanned for targets....and victims to the targets. At this point, he had two objectives. kill or apprehend Jenkins, then get the hell off the island. It seemed that Jekins had lured the group right into a trap. whether it was the trap initially intended or something else, he couldn't know. But if his plan was to kill off the team....it seemed he was succeeding...

Meanwhile, a dark brown Raptor watched from the shadows as the pack attacked the humans. It served as a scout....a sentry. And this was the kind of thing it was posted to watch for. hissing lowly, the predator bolted off through the grass, heading for the pack's nest...it needed to warn the pack leader that things had changed...

"Got it. You keep your finger hovering over that gun's trigger. I've got a feeling we're about to see the worst these things can throw at us" David replied, the Humdinga storming through the vegetation and catching up with the other mercenaries. If anything remained in the vehicle's way, it would surely be run over...

Several pistol rounds struck the alpha female in the flank, sending shocks of pain lancing up her body. Racing forward, Jack-the one who had fired the weapon-quickly kicked the Deinonychus in her wounded side, sending her toppling off Barnes before she was able to deliver a fatal strike. As he helped the winded Barnes to his feet, he smiled. "D*mn turkeys really don't like you, huh LT?" Barnes coughed a couple times and took a few deep breaths. "Heh... yeah, guess so... Get everyone together. We're making a break for the maintenance shed before the raptors regroup. Maybe that Rex'll scare them off." Jack nodded, waving his arms over his head and shouting at the mercs, "Hey, idiots! Over here! A little help please!"

After consuming what it had found, the Tyrannosaur trailed after the group from a distance. Rather than chase- and potentially scare off -its small but agile prey, the Rex was content with scavenging any casualties that may result from the fighting.

Rick, hearing the shout of Jack, stopped and turned around, seeing the Barnes and Jack. Despite the Rex being nearby, the Humdinga was also in view and that was enough to make him feel secure enough to turn back. He began to head towards Barnes as fast as possible, making sure to keep an eye on the large predator nearby, even though it didn't seem to be showing any interest in attacking...

Persephone as well turned and came running back to Barnes and Jack right behind Rick . With the humdinga nearby, she too felt secure enough to get back to Barnes. Though, now with a large male Rex in the area, things weren't looknig quite good, and if the pattern that had been established since their first run-in with Sue was anything to go by...

The alpha female gave a shriek of rage and pain, feeling her own hot blood seeping into her feathers. After a few failed attempts, she threw herself to her feet and gave a low, rattling snarl, her eyes locked on the humans, filled with pure hatred. If looks alone could kill, the two of them would have dropped dead several times over. She raised her muzzle, sniffing the air, and identified the scent of a nearby tyrannosaur. She glanced from the humans to her mate, to the direction the much bigger predator was approaching from, and barked a retreat call. The situation was growing too dangerous to keep attacking head-on. The pack needed to retreat, regroup, and maybe try again later.

The Alpha Male, by that point, had recovered, and quickly joined in with the retreat call. Fortunately, the grass would make the pack's retreat just as stealthy as their advance previously...

Once the rest of the mercs had gathered, Barnes planned on pushing the group into high gear, racing towards the maintenance shed. Fortunately for his wounded leg, the raptors quickly dispersed, and that Humdinga was making a beeline for them. Thankfully, no more running would be necessary, at least for the moment. "Alright, everyone wait here. I think it's time we had a chat with our old friends..."

"Looks like the lizards actually decided to run" said Jacob as he saw the predators retreat, noting they all went in the same direction, meaning they weren't planning a surprise attack. And ideal opportunity to warn Barnes and his painfully ignorant team about the danger standing in their midst. "Slow down, David. I think it's time we pointed out the fact they had a wolf in their little 'flock' without even knowing it" he added as he scanned the area, noting the Rex that had thus far been keeping it's distance, feeding off the bodies...

"It would seem so" David said as he glanced from mercenary to mercenary, able to identify a few and their injuries. "Where is the little **** any way?" he asked as he pulled up along side the group, coming to a stop a few feet to Barnes' side.

Barnes looked at the Humdinga, then up at the men inside. "Looks like you two have been pretty busy..." he muttered, not sounding very enthusiastic about seeing them again. Had they not just helped the mercs stave off the raptor attack, he wouldn't have even given them the courtesy of stopping and waiting...

Max simply sighed and stood attentive. He already felt useless after those raptors nearly killed Barnes, but at least the dynamic duo came back. Of course, he hoped they wouldn't run off again... they could always use the extra firepower.

Persephone simply glanced at David and Jacob as they came near, before she looked away. SO the runaway mercs had finally come back... And hopefully, they had some information she and the rest fo the group didn't know... why else would they have splitted off for so long, and only now come back to save their hides?
