David only heard only the beginning of Barne's rebuttal when he spoke, deiberately speeding up his pace so as to spare himself the rest of the response. "A fluke? This storm swinging around and catching us is a fluke. Lightning barely frying the **** out of us is...something else" he thought irritably as he neared the vegetation. It was here he left his personal issues behind and began to focus on his training, of how to handle himself in these situations. Him being pissed off at the circumstance wouldnt help him or the group, so he might as well shift his attention to the higher priorities.

Maxwell places the book back in his backpack before he slings it back onto his back. Pulling out his shotgunas well, the merc soon steps out of the osprey, being bathed in the sunlight. "Ah.... nothing like the sunshine after the rain..." he comments. "Hopefully nothing ELSE goes wrong while we're here...."

Rick stood up, carbine in his hands, before walking out of the aircraft and setting foot on the island's soil. He said in response to Maxewell's comment:"Agreed. This mission has been delayed long enough by that storm."

Riley got up and slid his rifle off his shoulder, grasping it in both hands and walking out of the osprey. He unlocked the trigger on the Ak-47 while walking out of the vehicle...

Johnson had long since moved to a panel on the side of the Osprey, fiddling with the machine's innards. As he did so, he said to Maxwell, "Dude, don't say that. Just... just don't."

"Wait, what are you doing?" Dodgson asked Barnes incredulously. "You're just letting him walk out into the forest alone?" Barnes shrugged nonchalantly. "I'm sure he can handle himself. Besides, if he's not back by the time we can get into the air, he'll just have to walk to the research base." Dodgson shook his head, picking up his briefcase. "No, you don't understand. He can't just--" He was cut off by a sudden, low-frequency thoom that rippled through the ground as a massive vibration. Barnes stiffened. "What the hell was that? Don't tell me we have to deal with earthquakes now!" Dodgson said nothing, but his face began to drain of color...

Rick jumped slightly when he heard the sound. He said, mostly to himself:"That doesn't sound good at all."

Hiero's hands sprang into motion as he readied his Galil, his head trying to determine the direction of the sound. "That was no quake, I have felt them before in my travels but that was not natural, either someone just dropped dead in front of a megaphone or something big just hit the ground," said Hiero with a grim tone. He watched the treeline for anything, a sign of movement, the gleam of a rifle scope in the sun.

"Someone screw up with explosives?!" David shouted over his shoulder, the sudden tremor stopping him in his tracks. First was that...roar, now this. He was alert and on edge, ready to unleash the deadly potential of his weapon despite his confusion.

Maxwell points his shotgun towards the forest, slight discomfort on his face. "What the hell was that?......"

"Probably the damned enemy trying to scare us or something," Riley muttered to himself, his rifle raised however, pointed at where the noise came from...

Barnes stared curiously at Dodgson as the thumping continued in a strangely rhythmic fashion, apparently coming from everywhere at once. The suited man's face was pale as the vibrations continued, ever-so-steadily growing in intensity. "We have to go..." "What?" Dodgson ignored Barnes and spun around, shouting at Johnson, "You! Engineer! Can this thing fly yet or not?!" Johnson shrugged casually, oblivious of Dodgson's panic. "I dunno, Mr. Dodgson. I'm trying to make sure--" "That's good enough! We need to get out of here! Now!" Johnson scratched the back of his head. "What the hell are you talking abou--"

From the other side of the Osprey, bursting from the trees, a massive creature the likes of which had never been seen before by human eyes emerged with a mighty, ear-ringing bellow, identical to the one heard earlier. The creature was at least 45 feet in length and over 20 feet tall. Its scaly skin was a ruddy red, and its eyes were small, but a furious shade of yellow. Its massive, block-like head crashed into the side of the Osprey, flipping the massive vehicle on its side. Johnson never manged to finish his sentence before he simply disappeared underneath the weight of the collapsing machine, followed by the animal's massive, clawed foot smashing down on its hull. The beast roared again, flashing its numerous, railroad spike-shaped teeth, and stepped over the Osprey, its tiny arms flexing in anticipation of an easy meal...

"RUN!" Dodgson screamed, sprinting for the trees at the opposite side of the clearing. Barnes didn't need to be told twice. His military instincts kicking in, he bellowed, "Everyone, get to the trees, now!" He turned and ran, but kept an eye over his shoulder to watch the monster move into the clearing with a deep, rumbling snarl...

Riley moved backwards quickly while firing on the beast, unloading an entire clip on the creature as he moved backwards into the trees, crashing into the trunk of one. The mercenary fell and leaned against the tree, eyes wide in shock and amazement as he moved a shaking hand to reload his gun...

"HOOOOLLLLY SH*T!" Maxwell sprints towards the trees, moving incredibly fast despite the size of his backpack, not even looking back at the huge monstrosity....

Riley soon crammed a new clip of ammo into his gun and got up to run off, chasing after Maxwell, making sure not to lose sight of him...

[The Kingpin]

Jacob had hesitated for a second when he spotted the creature, amazed at the sight of the beast, just as it left the treeline, before bolting as it neared the Osprey, heading for the opposite end of the clearing, the crash and crunch of the beast's onslaught on the aircraft deafening behind him. the situation was getting complicated. and it seemed the issue of what happened to the research base had just answered itself. gripping tightly on his HK 416 as he ran, he prepared himself for whatever else was lurking in the undergrowth...

The rest of the mercs scattered as well, except one man, who turned to face the furious beast. Even though it was clear the last round of automatic fire had done little more then piss it off, the man sprayed at the monster wildly with his gun. Amazingly, most of the bullets went flying wildly in either direction, missing the creature completely as it approached. With a ferocious lunge, the animal's massive jaws clamped around the merc's upper body, his gun falling out of his suddenly useless arm as it was crushed, the unfortunate man lifted into the air effortlessly. The beasts swung its massive head viciously back and forth like a cat, tearing the man in half and casually gulping down the portion still in its jaws. As it leaned down to devour the rest of the body, the rest of the mercs were able to flee relatively safely into the forest...

Dodgson had stopped in the jungle to catch his breath, resting one arm against a tree. Amazingly, he had been able to drag his briefcase along with him thanks to the adrenaline still coursing through his veins, and he quickly opened it and pulled the concealed Glock 23 out, putting it in his jacket pocket instead. Barnes emerged from the undergrowth near Dodgson as well, and the suited man jumped in fright. "Christ, Barnes, don't do that!" Barnes merely glared at Dodgson. "That was a godd*mn dinosaur, Dodgson! A f**king dinosaur! And it just wrecked our only ticket off this island! What the hell is going on?!" Dodgson sighed in resignation. "I can explain everything, but we have to find everyone else first. I think they deserve to know too..." Barnes rubbed his temples, then bellowed, "Hey! Anybody?! This is Lieutenant Barnes! Where the hell is everyone?!" He was hoping they managed to follow him in their panic, but he wasn't planning on it...

Maxwell was gasping for breath at this point. Adrenaline and pure terror had swallowed his mind. A Dinosaur. A. F*cking. Dinosaur. Jesus. He'd always been interested in dinosaurs when he was a kid, but after hearing that..... that THING eat the merc.... and the screams of pain....

Maxwell shook thought off. "H-hello?!" He shouts. "Anyone there?!"

Barnes heard Maxwell's shout, and quickly shouted back, "Max! Over here! It's Barnes!"

Maxwell shouts, "Okay! I'm coming!" The merc sprints towards the direction of the shout, hopnig nothnig ELSE tries to find him....

Barnes paced back and forth impatiently as he waited, but he was first greeted by the Osprey's remaining crew, pilot Jack Davison and his co-pilot, Stanley Tavish, who looked practically catatonic. "Jesus, Stan, what's wrong with you?" Barnes said as he helped the shell-shocked man sit down. Jack leaned against a tree, saying, "He saw Johnson die, kept ranting about seeing him disappear... I had to give him a whack over the head to get him to calm down. Didn't want to start a riot when we got back. He hasn't said a word since..."
