Important OOC: At this point, there are officially two more NPC mercs left (Nathan, and a second, as of yet unnamed). I've decided to give some lucky member a last-ditch chance to fill in the role of the final NPC before he/she is killed off. This is your first (and only) chance to join the DIRPG mid-game as anything more than a dinosaur. First come, first served. If no one chooses to take the role soon, the merc is free game for all the dinos to munch on, so you may not have much time. PM me about it if you're interested, and I'll give it to the first person who does so.

Barnes kept moving, ignoring whatever was happening behind him. As much as he loathed to admit it, he couldn't afford to stop and help the soon-to-be-dead. No one could at this point. It was all they could do to just stay alive themselves...

Maxwell readied his shotgun as he sprinted as fast as his legs could carry him. Hopefully, those explosives had distracted the rators and rex long enough for them to make it inside withut too much of a hitch...

Barnes had barely taken a few strides since firing the grenade launcher, before a large black Raptor collided with his flank, knocking him out of sight of the group and burying him amidst the long grass, the Attack-Group's leader tearing away at the man's flanks with it's claws as it's killer claws dug ferociously into his gut, tearing the soldier apart vengefully, it's jaws ripping and biting at his throat. A large number of the pack had run aside and ahead of the group after the grenade blast, sticking to the peripheries of the group as they overtook them, exploiting their expectations. They were now running straight towards a practical wall of death, the long grass ahead littered with furious predators...

Jacob leapt out of the Humdinga, wasting no time as he took aim with his assault rifle, moving towards the entrance. "No time to chat, mate. Let's get the hell out of this killing field and get into cover. We'll have better luck indoors where we can exploit their size" he said briefly but firmly, knowing it was at best a matter of seconds before the Raptors were upon them along with the rest of the group...

Maxwell slowed to a stop as soon as he turend around, the other mercs passing by.

"Barnes?!" Maxwell yelled as he prepped his shotgun. He took a couple steps forward to where he last saw Barnes.

"Barnes, where the hell are you?!"

David undid his seat belt and put a hand on the Humdinga's door panel. He hopped up, pivoting on his wrist and swinging himself over, landing on the other side and taking one last look at the leather interior. Nestled in the passenger foot space was Max's bag, obscured by the vehicle's dash and steering wheel. With his mental farewell finished, he followed after Jacob, TAR at the ready.

Barnes reacted quickly. Though protecting his side was nearly impossible, when the raptor lunged forward to try and bite him in the throat, it was met with a resounding crack to the jaw by the butt of Barnes' rifle. The burly man shouted, "You want some of this, you sonuvab**ch?!" before desperately bringing his uninjured leg up into the stunned Deinonychus' gut, knocking the beast off him. He scrabbled backwards, adrenaline numbing the pain in his side, firing his rifle on full automatic into the air to try and get the attention of the mercs. Handling this predator alone probably wasn't going to work as well as it did on the last one...

Max heard the yell, and, despite his instincts telling him to run in the opposite direction, he ran towards the noise, shotgun at the ready...

Max had made his final mistake. as the mercenaries ran past him, another Raptor leapt from the grass alongside him, one of the group of Raptors that had been herding the Mercs towards the main portion of the attack group, the predator colliding with him powerfully, killer-claws first, fangs bared with a horrible screech as it as it tackled him to the floor, one claw hitting the hand holding his shotgun, the other embedding itself in his upper torso, it's clawed hands colliding into the man's neck from either side, severing the jugular veins...

An angry snarl came from the Raptor as it got hit, raking it's killer claw along the man's torso as it was kicked off, cleaving through muscle and internal organ alike, eviscerating the man, a second raptor stepping on his neck as he shuffled backwards, killer claw swinging down like an executioner's axe, sliding through the man's throat and one of the jugular veins, before pressing down, breaking his neck, the genetically perfected predator unleashed in full force upon the very people it was meant to fight for, a screech tearing through the sky as the leader rose to it's feet, ordering the rest of the attack group to attack the mercs, the grass before them shaking violently as they closed in on their quarry, intercepting whatever made it past the attackers behind the humans...

Thanks to the pack that was on her back, Persephone's back was protected, though the contents in her pack were now spilling out, and her neck was still being chewed on. Was she going to die like this, at the hands of a Dromaeosaur?

Not on her watch.

Persephone suddenly rolled to the side as hard as she could, causing the raptor's foot to slip, making the animal loose it's grip on her as it plummeted to the ground before it could slice through her shoulder. Getting up on her feet as fast as she could, Persephone , seeing the raptors up ahead between her and the base, did the only thing she could... head for the trees. She ran as fast as she could, holding onto her crossbow, while her magnum and spare bullets and arrows spilt out onto the ground. As much as she didn't want to leave them there, she had no choice. If she could make it to the nearest tree and climb up it, she could escape the predators....

Max weakly attempted to fight off the raptor. With his throat slit and blood staining the grass, he had almost no hope of survival. His shotgun holding hand mangled, he remembered one last thing in his disposal: his combat knife. He grabbed for his blade with his remaining good hand, before jamming his blade up the creature's neck and through the bottom of it's throat, before slicing it sideways and tearing its throat clean open. Maxwell could feel the life seeping out of him, as all the regrets of his past began to come upon him as the raptor suffered a similarly cruel fate from his blade, which was stained with both the beast's and his own blood....

The raptor that had attacked Persephone was on its feet quickly, and giving chase. Its prey had been lucky once; chance had saved her. The human would not be lucky a second time. As the female raptor closed the distance yet again, she moved to the side of her target, so that even if the human did get away again, she would be driven towards the line of raptors waiting in ambush. Wasting no time, as soon as she was close enough the raptor turned and pounced again. As she knocked over the woman and yet again clamped down on her head, a second raptor, who had followed, lunged forward and sank its teeth deep into the human's leg, jerking its head and tearing up the calf muscle so badly it was beyond use. With her pack shredded, she had less protection from the vicious sickle claws that began to tear at her, the raptor determined to finish things before it got too out of hand. These humans wouldn't be leaving this field alive...

As Jacob walked into the building, he could hear the hissing and growling in the corridors, a sound that chilled him to the bone. "Quick. up" was his only statement as he headed for the door to one side of the main hall, leading to a stairwell that led to the radio room and the roof. He could hear the hissing and snarling echoing through the building. It was obvious this place was more a deathtrap than a refuge. Still. There was always a plan. Always a solution. keeping completely alert, with his knife held below his assault rifle, he headed forward, making sure not to let David fall behind, or to let himself get too far ahead...

David stepped through the doorway backwards, making sure nothing would have the chance to surprise him or his partner. They would've been promptly gunned down down as soon as they entered his sights. Nothing stirred but the hisses and snorting crept along the corridors of the building. David shut the door slowly, making sure the sound of it closing did not echo loudly. The hinges however squeaked softly, though that would be enough to alert nearby creatures to the location. Upon shutting the door, he dropped the latch in place, locking it from the first floor before hurrying after Jacob.

A deep growl echoed from the shadows ahead. A pair of eyes shone for just an instant; their owner would be gone by the time the two humans pinpointed the location.

"....******* brilliant" said Jacob after the growl was made, taking aim with his assault rifle, the night vision scope showing him the stairwell perfectly in spite of the shadows. He began to move upwards carefully, his aim sweeping across the stairs and above him as he passed under the railing of the floor above, making sure he had scanned it properly before risking stepping forward. it was a direct path up to the third level, where the Radio room was, and from there, a staircase and a door to the roof...

"You're my eyes now, Night Owl." David stated as his eyes adjusted to the dim staircase. He kept an eye on the way they had came, so while Jacob searched ahead he made sure there wasn't an opening to attack from behind. Still, until he had his fully adapted vision, his reaction to a sneak attack would be delayed. The split seconds lost in such a situation could quickly result in death, but even with the odds David kept a steely coolness and kept methodical in his practice. Letting fear and anxiety best him instead of enhancing his performance was not an option in his line of work.

Another growl could be heard inside the structure, ringing aloud. The pittering of footsteps could be heard, and a deep sniff was audible from somewhere nearby. Another creature was stalknig the two mercs.... but this sounded a bit larger than a raptor....

Weakened by blood loss from the deep gashes in her neck, the human's struggles only served to make the teeth of the raptor who had her by the leg sink more deeply into the flesh. The female who had initially attacked kept her grip on the woman's head tightened her grip. With a swift twisting, backwards jerk of the predator's head, the bones in the human's neck snapped loudly, sounding the end of the woman's life. The raptor looked up, snapping her jaws a few times, to check the position of the other humans. Leaving the body of this one to the nearby Rex, the raptor jumped off the corpse, hitting the ground running as she rejoined the pack's efforts to stop the intruders.

Only the sounds of claws clicking lightly on the metal floor betrayed the presence of raptors on the second floor of the building; the amplifying nature of the place made the soft echoes difficult if not impossible to pinpoint without visual confirmation. Every now and then, a soft, chilling hiss would sound from a different place. The raptors knew there were humans here, and were watching their every move....it was simply a matter of biding their time until the moment was right.

Jacob rounded the halfway-curve of the stairwell, continuing to ascend, the entrance to the second floor above and ahead of him, his night vision scope aiming through the entrance while David was relied on to keep an eye for threats on the side. his goal was on the third floor, and provided there was nothing waiting beyond that second floor doorway, he could continue ascending, bypassing it completely...

By now, David's trained eyes were peering into the darkness and able to make out the details of the stairway in clear detail. From cracks in the wall to specks of dust lingering in the stale air, the mercenary was now primed to strike back with ease. Ambush was nigh impossible, with Jacob keeping tabs on what was in front of them and David making sure there was nothing behind. If they could keep each other alive, they might just make it to their objective...
