Zombie Outbreak RPG

Where good and bad RPGs and E-wars go to die.

The Nemesis walked down a street, most of the undead ignoring him despite his size, but several, mostly the more intact ones, made sure to give the monster a wide berth, knowing that if he decided he required sustinence, they would be the first thing on his list of preffered prey. the beast snarled as he picked up the scent of something notably more fresh than an infected corpse...he had found another human. it seemed fate had decided that the Nemesis would have a living kill...though the beast's rage at the last loss meant that simply killing and feeding may not be enough. a loud gutteral roar echoed throughout the concrete hallways of the dead city, the zombies surrounding the monster scattering, before moving towards the scent actively, picking up the pace, though still at least a block away from his intended victim...

Vergil tensed as he heard the distant roar of the Nemesis. he knew that it was likely either enraged at losing them, or had found another victim....he couldn't help but pity whoever ran into it next...it was through sheer luck they escaped it alive....in his case, twice. "Okay...I think we've escaped it for now....don't let your guard down though. there's no telling what else is out here..." he warned Nick as he walked, navigating his way around the mall, making use of his knowledge of the area both before and after the outbreak to determine where he'd most likely find clear areas.....wherever was popular before...

"Maybe we should find Renfield," Nick whispered. "He may be a nutjob, but he isn't dead, so he obviously knows how to survive in this hellhole."

Robert felt his blood run cold as he heard a distant roar. The thing that worried him the most was not simply the power of the roar, but where it's owner was likely to be heading. Thinking fast, he considered his options. He could eaither stay inside the post office or leave to seek another building to hide in. If he went back out into the open, then he would have very little cover except for abandoned vehicles and there was no telling how fast the unknown creature might be. If he stayed in here, it might find him, but there were other rooms in this building, which might give him a chance. Spotting a door several feet to his left, he ran toward it, grabbing on the handle and twisting it quickly before he stepped inside and closed it, starting to look for something that he could use barricade the door...

"After the chaos that monster stirred up....i'm not sure how likely Renfield is to have survived....but fine. if he's alive, maybe he could help us out" responded Vergil as he slowly headed for the mall, making sure to take the quietest path...

Meanwhile, the Nemesis was closing in on the scent, and had taken to the alleys to speed up his tracking, as well as using them to filter out possible directions, narrowing down the possible escape routes. he had tracked the scent down to a collection of buildings. a low snarl rumbled in the beast's throat as it approached, hollow points in the street over sewer tunnels and the subway making the already audible thuds of the heavy beast all the more intimidating. The Nemesis was closing in on his target...

"He's survived this long," Nick said. "I doubt a few dozen Shamblers could've gotten him."

Locking the door quickly, Robert looked around and spotted a few chairs around a large table. Walking over to one, he picked it up with a grunt, then walked back and set it down in front of the door. Not pausing, he walked over to another chair and place it on top of the first one. He didn't know how long the door or his barricade would hold up to the creature that had produced the roar from earlier, but it would at least buy him some time to flee out of another door at the end of the room...

"It's not the shamblers i'm thinking about....there are much worse things out there...the Shamblers are just what happens to the zombies after they starve and their bodies start consuming themselves" said Vergil as he walked, heading towards the parking lot. he was careful to avoid the areas with a large number of cars...there were spots, mostly the VIP parking area, as well as a few of the normal parking spots in the surrounding area, where there weren't many vehicles. he never thought he'd see the day where humanity's greed would prove useful to him. the wealthy often payed obscene amounts of money for relatively small pleasures, examples being the less crowded, wider, more easily maneuvered VIP parking. said people were usually the first to escape the area when the outbreak occured. the result was that the VIP parking area was less crowded with vehicles than most of the other parking areas. it also gave an easy path to the mall. the lack of cover was a double edged sword though. on the one hand, nothing could sneak up on them. on the other hand, they couldn't hide from anything watching from any kind of height either. Vergil was depending on the horde being elsewhere to keep them alive...

As Nemesis closed in on the scent, he made another snarl, finding a high concentration of the scent in and around the door to a post office. snarling, the beast knocked the door aside, walking in, glancing around, checking the scent, searching for clues as to where the human went...

Robert heard an impact from the other side of the door and could tell that it only meant that the owner of the roar and the now audible snarls was strong. He could also hear the heavy foot falls of the beast as it walked. Quietly, he walked toward the door at the opposite side of the room, still listening to the footsteps of the creature to try and get ready in case it decided to stop and wait to attempt an ambush, or if it might possibly go past the room he was in...

"Still, other than Mr. Zombie-on-Steroids we just got away from, I haven't seen very many mutated Zombies around the mall. The big guy might've scared them away." Nick followed close behind Vergil, looking around the parking lot with wary eyes...

"Well...while he was chasing Renfield and I earlier, we ran into a crying one. never come across one before, but whatever it was, Renfield was terrified of it. If it wasn't for the big guy blowing the door on the other end of the hallway right off it's hinges, i don't think i could've pursuaded him to move" said Vergil...

meanwhile, Nemesis walked through the room, following the scent, leading him to a door and a hallway. snarling, the beast walked forward through the hall, trying to find the scent, the beast's thudding footsteps amplified by the wood flooring...

Robert cursed in his mind as he heard the sound of the creature walking through the hallway. Though he could tell that the beast wasn't standing still to attempt an ambush yet, if he opened the door that he had intended to slip through, the floorboards might creak, which would blow his position or the monster might round the corner the momment the door opened and see him. For the momment, he decided to wait silently, his heart thundering in his chest...

Nick hesitated, but still followed Vergil. "A... a crying one? You're not talking about a Witch, are you?"

The Nemesis haulted when he noted the scent had weakened past the door. turning around, Nemesis approached the door again. first, it tried the handle. it wasn't human, but that didn't mean it wasn't intelligent. pushing the handle down and leaning against the door, the beast discovered it was barricaded, the human's scent coming more powerfully than before through the narrow crack in the doorway. snarling, the beast let go of the door. a loud bang was heard next, the door crackling loudly, a serious dent in the wood, as if the door was bordering on being battered to splinters in that one swing. a low snarl came from the beast...

"Maybe. it just sat on the floor sobbing. Renfield looked ready to run back towards the beast" answered Vergil as they neared the entrance to the mall...

Knowing that the door wouldn't hold much longer against the beast, Robert quietly opened the second door and slipped out into the hallway, making sure to shut it quietly and quickly. Once he did this, he began to quietly make his way down the hall. He had heard the creature actually try the door handle before it attacked the door, which could only mean that it was more intelligent than the shuffler zombies that were a common sight...

"Sounds like a Witch to me," replied Nick, shuddering. "I hope you didn't spook it. That's when you're screwed."

"Oh, it was spooked alright. got hit by the big guy while it was trying to kill us. the Witch went into a screaming frenzy, then got torn in half by tall, dark and angry. we used the tiem he took to maul her to run, but it was only barely enough for me to get away. the 'witch' barely lasted 10 seconds" responded Vergil...

a second swing saw the door blown to pieces, the barricade behind it blown away from the door, the beast kicking what little blocked it's path as it walked in, checking the scents and glancing around. empty. but the smell was fresh. glancing around the room, the beast noticed a second door. snarling, it walked forward, grabbing the handle and pulling the door open, walking out...

Nick's eyes widened. "Seriously? I've seen a startled Witch tear apart a whole group of soldiers, early in the outbreak. They fired at it all day and only injured it and pissed it off more."

"Then it looks like 'out of our league' is a bit of an understatement, eh?" said Vergil lowly as they reached the entrance to the mall, handgun gripped tightly in his pocket...

Robert swore under his breath when he risked a glance back and saw the Nemesis open the door. He had expected it to go through the second door, but it was still the same as though it had accidently found him. Pulling out his hand gun from his back pocket, he broke into a run, dashing around a corner which would provide, at least for a few momments, some cover from the monster...

snarling, Nemesis turns towards the thuds of running feet on the wooden flooring, the beast running after his intended target angrily, rapidly closing the gap between them, slowing as it rounded the corner and continued charging after the human...
