I think the books got better as they went along. The first ones were pretty annoying IMO. Too childish. Just followed the same stucture. Harry got to school, something went on, he nearly died, but ended up saving the day. Oh, and they always thought that someone was behind something, and the book made you think they were, but in the end, Harry's wrong.
Example, the first book. They blamed Snape but it was Quirrel. Second book, they blamed Malfoy but it was actually Voldemort possessing Ginny. Third book, they thought it was Sirius but it was actually Pettigrew.
And come on. Every single year something out of the ordinary happens, and always concerning Harry? I mean god, can't he have a normal year for once? I know that that wouldn't make a good book, but something always happening to him is a bit realistic IMO.
