Wow.....The second book interests me ALOT.

We were wrong.....in the ISS RPG.....The raptors DO NOT act like we portray them as....they DO NOT make room for the little ones to eat. Also, they kill other raptors because they get in the way. Even if they were in their own pack. We were DEAD wrong.

ah, BUT, for a pack to be successful, they'd need to act quite similarly to the way we portrayed them. if you killed your own son because he got in your way while you were eating, and did it with every child you had, do you think that, when you die, you'd have any descendants to continue the family line? no, you wouldn't...

in JP Chrichton probably did that so that they would look like they were doomed. they wouldn't be able to live for long because all their young would be killed...

No No No KP. The Rex's were VERY good parents in the book. Almost better then people. The Raptors growled at the babies, but didn't bite. This is an EXACT quote from the book (I have it right in front of me)

But here, she saw pandemonium--a feeding frenzy. The fallen animal was thickly covered with striped predators, all furiously ripping the flesh of the carcass, with frequent pauses to snarl and fight with each other. Their fights were openly vicious-one predator bit the adjacent animal, inflicting a deep flank wound. Immediately, several other predators snapped at the same animal, which limped away, hissing and bleeding, badly wounded. Once at the periphery, the wounded animal retaliated by biting the tail of another creature, again causing a serious wound.

A young juvenile, about half the size of the others, kept pushing forward, trying to get a bit of the carcass, but the adults did not make room for it. instead, they snarled and snapped in fury. The youngster was frequently obliged to hop back nimbly, keeping its distance from the razor-sharp fangs of the grownups. Harding saw no infants at all. This was a society of vicious adults.

As she watched, the wounded animal at the edge of the kill slunk forward and bit another adult, which snarled and leapt at it, slashing with its long toe-claw. in a flash, the injured predator was eviscerated, coils of pale intestine slipping out through a wide gash. The animal fell howling to the ground, and immediately three adults turned away from the kill and jumped onto its newly fallen body, and began to tear the animal's flesh with rapacious intensity.

Thats is the scene were Sarah sees the Raptors for the first time. This shows that the raptors were horrid killing machines. And I like to go by the book more then the movie. Also, this is a test to some people. If you can't read this passage without getting grossed out, don't read the books.

I think Chrichton did do a better job of portraying them then either the movies or us, and he's right, the more intelligent predators (E.G, the Raptors) that didn't operate on instinct as much as others, (E.G, the Rexes, or the Carnotors) probably would not be able to function as well.

However, since the ISS takes place, what, almost fifty years after the book (and considering that the dinos probably reached maturity early, within four to five years meaning about ten generations for the smaller species), it is possible that the raptors have learned cooperation with each other. Also, considering that our RPG apparently takes place in an alternate timeline, where InGen has made many more species, resulting in a higher amount of competition on the island (just look at our predators list) it is possible that the first generation raptors banded together out of nessecity and taught this behavior to their young, and so on and so on.

Though I have not read the books, I know what they are about from Wikipedia. So that explains how the movie franchise started. But yeah in this they had more dinosaurs and some that did not exist unlike the movie. I have JPOG for Xbox (getting it for PC soon) and The Lost World Jurassic Park for PS1 and i saw dinosaurs i thought they just simply added in. Seems many of them were from the books like Camarasaurus and Baryonix.

^ You can easilly get into the second book without reading the first... I perfer the second, mainly because of the fact thatt there's more intrestnig theorys in it and there's a rare Literature glimpse of a Carnotaur there... Oh, and there's also the part where it's mentioned that Levine's ferrari gets impounded after he drove 125 in a school zone. Imagining that always cracks me up...

I read the first, I'm about half way through the second now.

Is it me, or did they not seem to stick to the plot/story at all for the second, and a lot of the first?
