The safe den the loner found turned out to be nothing more than a narrow crack in the face of a large rock, just barely wide enough for him to squeeze inside. It widened out a bit further in, but he still felt his lip curling at the prospect of spending the night here. Better here, he concluded after a moment, than in the belly of a wolf. Sure it would be cold, but the worst of the wind would be blocked, and not even the thinnest, most determined wolf would be able to get inside. Besides, it's only for now, he added silently. With a quiet sigh, he settled himself into a crouch and tucked his nose into his chest fur.

After walking on for awhile, Shadowfang arrived at the trees he and his group would sleep in. Looking up, he wasn't that suprised to see his companions already on the branches. Gripping the bark with his claws, the rogue pulled himself up to the branch he wanted after about a minute of climbing, then settled down and resumed eating his kill, now able to feed without worry of wolves being able to attack him...

A black-furred, red-eyed she-cat was staring into a small pool. She was badly scarred - signs of a harsh life. When her claws slid out, they glittered silver, and when she stood and arched her back in a stretch, huge black-feathered wings extended from her shoulders. "You're worried," a soft voice meowed. The black she-cat turned to meet gentle eyes the color of leaves in the height of greenleaf. "Don't be," the owner of the eyes, a white she-cat, continued, padding forward to stand beside her companion. "I have faith in Snowstar to lead the new Clan to a bright future."

The black cat snorted softly. "As do I, Streamflower, but you can't deny it will be a long and hard path," she mewed. "The Clans have only just begun to recover." Streamflower dipped her head in assent.

"True. But Snowstar has the Clan's support - and so does Shadowsoul. Their leadership has already proved better for the Clan than Fireflower's."

"Fireflower," the crimson-gazed she-cat growled. "She cracked under the pressure when her Clan needed her most."

"Steady, Bloodspill," Streamflower mewed, resting her tail briefly on Bloodspill's shoulder. "She was young, and inexperienced."

"That's no excuse for abandoning her cats," Bloodspill hissed. She ruffled her wings irritably. "I thought she was stronger than this. I thought she was more than a kittypet. I guess I was wrong. And Demontalon..." The disgust in Bloodspill's voice grew. "The Clan freaked out over a tiny kit who had no control over her name or who her mother was sired by."

"It was a mistake that weakened the Clan," Streamflower sighed. "But we can't change the past. We can't change what's been done."

"If only we could," Bloodspill mewed softly, bowing her head. "Who knows what might be different now, if I'd never invited Fireflower into the Clan. If Auburnpelt had never named Demontalon as she did."

"What's done is done," Streamflower meowed firmly. "Let it go Bloodspill. We have a new generation to watch over now. Even if some of them don't look to us anymore, we can still guide those that do. Hopefully, we won't make the same mistakes."

Insolitus finally managed to doze off, ignoring a second how coming from a slightly different location. Wolves couldn't hurt him here...he was fairly sure.

The white tom's ear twitched several times, and his lips curled. His tail began to whip about aswell. Coldeyes, sitting behind the leader growled "What is it? Something the matter?"Snowstar nodded no. "I have an itch behind my ear!" He mewed as he bowed his head and began scratching his ear with a paw. He let out a content sigh as he did. Coldeyes shook his head. He noticed the den was now shrouded in darkness. "The sun's gone down..." He mewed. "Make sure the warriors are in their den... they need their rest" The cat with the black striped tail growled as he stretched. He laid down on his side and curled up, chin resting on the tip of his tail.

Coldeyes nodded and trotted to the den's entrance, watching as cats slipped into their Earthen homes...

"It went well" growled Wraith with a smile. his ears had perked up at the howls and he instinctively curled his lips in irritation. he hated Wolves more than anything else he knew existed. he had thought the plan he and Snowstar had cooperated to achieve would have killed them all...but apparently it wasn't so. "Where are the kits? did Nightclaw come back as he was told?" he hissed, a tone of conscern evident in his voice...

"Of course, he isn't perfect," Streamflower purred, having seen Snowstar's small performance. Bloodspill grunted, amused. "Would he be Snowstar if he was?" she mewed, turning away from the pool. Streamflower purred a little louder. "It's moments like this that remind me more than ever that he's Loneclaw's brother." She followed the black she-cat deeper into StarClan's forest.

Shadelight purred at Wraith's concern. "Nightclaw's fine he's in my den, helping with my inventory," she said. "Stormheart is still helping, Sunclaw is probably getting her breakfast." "Why so concerned?" she asked and sat down her tail curling around her feet.

(Its night time Shade, not morning :P)

Coldeyes slipped back into the den as the last of the cats disappeared into the ground, only the night vigil still sitting. Statues in the dark, they peered into the darkness cloaking the forrest and braced against the cold that slowly settled in. The transition to leaf fall had begun not too long ago...only now is it evident...

"Wolves" hissed Wraith quietly, trying not to let the others hear him. it was very faint, and his keen hearing had caught it by chance. he didn't want to frighten the rest of the clan with whispers of wolves. not after the extensive plan he and Snowstar had gone through to try and eliminate them. if the knowledge of wolf activity became too wide spread in the clan, they may begin to lose faith in the chance of getting rid of them. he remembered at one time something similar happened with rats...they had become so numerous and bold that the clans as a whole were suffering, and were beginning to believe that the rats could not be killed. and that fear weakened them to the point they couldn't fight at all, and were then forced from their homes back here. with such a small number of wolves, Wraith didn't want to let the fear of them do the same. "How about Stormheart and Sunclaw? where are they?" he mewed, as a pair of black ears poked up from within the medicine den, Nightclaw staring at his parents from within...

The loner's ear twitched at the sound of tiny claws skittering over the surface of the rock, and his stomach gave a growl, but he didn't dare venture out into the darkness. He'd been woken up from his light sleep not long ago, by the cold. If only I had enough brains to at least bring some dead leaves in here, he thought, annoyed with himself. Then it wouldn't be as cold as if I was sleeping in a snowdrift. It wasn't quite that cold, but cold enough that he felt like banging his head off the rock for his stupidity. Idiot.

Shadelight nodded after the last moons' escapade she didn't want to hear wolves again. "Stormheart is hunting, Sunclaw's probably off doing the same thing," she said. "I'm sure they'll be fine," she reassured and brushed her tail across his shoulders.

Wraith sighed, coming across as a short purr. "I hope you're right. now...i'm going to go over to the lake...i've always enjoyed looking at it glitter at night. helps me relax. you're welcome to join me if you like" he growled, his features pulling themselves into a small smile as he looked at Shadelight...

By now Insolitus' throat was beginning to feel dry as well. Drink or stay... he thought. Before he made a conscious decision he was on his feet and squeezing out of his temporary den. "To the lake," he mewed out loud, turning in that direction and setting off at a brisk trot. Above him the moon, close to being full, hovered like a silent guardian.

Having now finished eating the squirrel, Shadowfang used a paw to push the skeleton off of the branch, hearing it land on the ground seconds later. Without looking up, he knew that darkness had fallen upon the forest. Closing his eyes, the rogue quickly drifted off to sleep, his companions following him soon after...

He crossed the hills relatively quickly. At the crest of one, Insolitus paused and just stood looking down at the vast expanse of water. He'd seen it during the day, reflecting the blue sky and the sun, and even sometimes lightning during a storm. But he'd never seen it at night. He looked down at the moon. Then he looked up at the moon. He'd never really appreciated how beautiful it was, until now. After a minute of staring he shook himself and bounded down the hill to the shore. Drink first, look later. All the same he was cautious as he approached the water. What if the wolves caught him out here? If they catch me, I'm dead, he concluded grimly, even as he crouched to drink.

Wraith walked off towards the edge of the camp, leaving it, the lake's shore being just outside of it. the Clan Leader crouched at the lake's edge, lapping up several gulps of water, satisfying his thirst after his typical afternoon out-of-turf patrol, the tom's chin dripping with water as he lifted his head up, shaking it to get rid of the droplets, before laying down, staring out at the lake's surface and the dark sky above, the silver disk above glowing brightly, bathing the earth below with silver light...

Another howl startled Insolitus enough to make him choke on his mouthful of water. Coughing and gasping, he felt his fur stand on end. This howl was just as far-off as the others, but it was enough to make him bolt for cover. He sprinted across a strongly scented border and kept going, now not at all sure where he was. He only knew that he was still on the lakeshore and that with every step he took, he was probably getting further and further away from his den.

A weight suddenly dropped down onto the wanderer's back. A fellow cat pounced on him from a low lying bush, forcing the tom to the dirt, front paws planted firm on the back of his head. "Where do you think your going?!" A white she cat hissed into the tom's ear. Riverstone glared down at the cat, as her sister trodded out of the shadow of a tree, her amber eyes glowing like fire flies. Mudswirl cocked her head "He doesnt look like the blood thirsty rogue that father told us about..."
"We still caught his scent blowing towards us, and what brought him here other than the clan?" Riverstone growled.
"The wolf howls?" Her sister asked.
"They're so far off! Sure a cat could be on edge, but to run as if your tail was about to be ripped off by a twoleg?!" Riverstone growled. Both their gazes turned to the pinned cat and they waited for him to speak...

Shadelight smiled back. "Perhaps later, I still have alot of work to be done," she purred. She trotted back into the medicine den and back to her cateloging.

Sunclaw trotted to the lake as she carried a shrew in her mouth she set it down and took a few bites of it and licked her lips of blood. She looked out at the lake and smiled at its brilliance before returning to her meal.

Insolitus yelped as he was suddenly pinned. He spat out a mouthful of earth and muttered under his breath, "So that's what dirt tastes like." More loudly, he addressed his captors, who he couldn't see clearly, "Yes the howls were far-off, but that last one startled me badly. I wasn't expecting it."
