"Anyway," the dark brown tabby growled, turning away from Flame and his "father", "as fun as this little chat has been, I have other things to be doing." She padded away, willing her ruffled fur to lie flat on her spine. She looked around for her brother, and instead spotted his mate, Heatherpelt, who was grooming her white chest with rhythmic laps of her tongue. Deciding to keep the former medicine cat company, Hawkclaw made her way to Heatherpelt's side and sat down. "Hi," the lighter brown tabby mewed, her blue eyes gleaming in a friendly way. "What's up?" "You seemed lonely," Hawkclaw replied with a shrug and a faint smile. "I thought I'd come over and chat." Heatherpelt let out a soft chuckle. "That sounds a bit odd, coming from you," she remarked, her tone light, but her gaze became serious and concerned. Hawkclaw felt her smile fade into a troubled frown. "You've been...distant from the Clan since..." The older cat paused. "Since the fire," Heatherpelt finished quietly. Hawkclaw scuffed the ground with one paw. "I know. I don't mean to be, but I can't help thinking...and being scared that..." She swallowed hard. "...that if I get too close to anyone, I'll lose them. Like...like my mother." Her voice sounded small and scared to her own ears, and she wasn't surprised when Heatherpelt leaned over to give her ear a comforting lick.
