Slackjaw, without hesitation, fastened his jaws on the Baryonyx's neck, and with a sharp, violent motion, snapping its neck, causing a sickening crack to echo around the area. Thankful the struggle was over, the Allosaur began to consume the Baryonyx hungrily...

Fatalis smirked. "Wonderful. All the better to cause complete and total chaos. I'm going to have fun with these Raptors....assuming I can find them" he hissed with a sly smirk. in the distance, the roaring of the two predators had stopped, illiciting a chuckle from the black and grey Raptor. "Looks like someone bit off more than he could chew" he commented as he looked towards the trees, the barely visible movements of the Allosaur's figure shifting amidst the tree trunks...

Aurora smiled thankfully to the Alpha female, glancing towards Xanthe. "Ready when you are" she growled, spreading her jaws wide in a half yawn, half flex as she eyed her son affectionately, the young Allosaur giving off faint purring sounds with each breath as he rested...

A murky river cut through the jungle and the tree branches on either bank extended across, gnarled timber arcs of lichen, vines and leaves. Aircrest followed the current from overhead, looking down at flowing water. He watched vegetation and small bits of wood be carried off along the watery road. The raptor had found direction in his aimless wandering across his island home. It was a mundane existence indeed, running and wandering between bouts of fear and proclamations of personal strength. He was beginning to hunger so he decided to put off his training until he found something to eat, whenever that would be. For the time being, he would follow the river-

He looked up from the water when he noticed it took more effort to jump the gaps between branches. Sure enough, he found himself in another area where the trees were thinning out. Peering down the length of the river, he saw green grassy plains. There were many knolls and hills where the trees eventually ended, the next patch of forest being a spec on the other side of the grassland. "Oh lovely. So this is where the plains-hunters and the grazers are entering the jungle." Aircrest observed bitterly. Finding himself in between an Allosaur and an angry Stegosaur was something he didn't want to experience again in the future, near or far. The fact that he was on the periphery of the plains however increased the chances of him running into the other predators that resided on the open terrain. Still, it would be a change from the jungle, and if he found himself in danger, he could just run like always.

Aircrest returned back to the jungle floor, walking along side the river through the parting trees...

Steeltalon gave a small sound of agreement. "I almost feel sorry for it." She paused, listening to the sounds of ripping flesh and snapping bones, and added, "Almost."

Xanthe took a look at the others, nodded, and replied, "It shouldn't be long." Most of the pack were alert and active, some exchanging short goodbyes and promises to be back soon.

Fatalis chuckled at the comment. "I love it when a plan comes together" he hissed. "Do you have a particular place to stay? When you're not hunting or keeping out of reach, I mean" asked the Raptor as he cocked his head towards Steeltalon curiously...

Aurora yawned as she rose to her feet, nuzzling her son affectionately before lifting the youngster, setting him down close to the other two chicks by Savarna. "I'll do my best to be quick. And I'll bring food for the youngsters" she growled softly with a smile, the light striking her eyes at such an angle they seemed to glow a rich purple...

The sound of footsteps rung out in the jungle. Ba'al was on the move. He had wandered a long way from his territory, and his hunger was stamped for now. He smelled the air and headed west, attempting to find his way back....

The question made Steelatlon cock her head in faint surprise. "Well, I've been staying in an underground cave back that way," she growled, turning to indicate the way she'd come. "But it's probably temporary...I found out recently it's too easy for others to find."

"Safe journey," Savarna replied with a smile, as Alira and Cirrus, caught in a small mock scuffle, rolled into her side and fell away from each other. Xanthe pushed himself to his feet and growled, "If everyone who's going is ready, let's move out." The majority of the pack moved to follow their leader, leaving two other females and an older male behind to help stand guard.

"Hm. pity. Was hoping you could give me a definite location to come and find you once I'd run out of murderous obsessive Raptors" hissed Fatalis with a smirk...

Aurora wasted no time, moving forwards with the pack towards the location of the kill, interested to see the prize the young hunters had brought down for their packmates...

Rhojis's head jerked up in surprise, the juvenile not having expected to see another raptor looking down at them from the tree. His recent experience with the green raptor still fresh in his mind, he was immediately wary. "Wha- broken? How?" he hissed, sounding alarmed. There was another light rustling from the general direction he had come and a female voice tentatively called out the gray raptor's name. "Over here!" he hissed back, yellow eyes flicking between his injured father and the rusty raptor in the tree. Within seconds, the olive raptor slid into view by Rhojis' side, stopping abruptly when she caught sight of the stranger, every bit as distressed as her brother. "Dad, what happened?" "In my travels, I ended up getting a little too close to someone else's territory, that's all..." Sylicora immediately shot a frightened glance upward before Beryl hissed reassuringly, "Calm down, the one who did this isn't around here. We're a good distance from the border. Let's just remember not to go too far this way again. Oh... I found you two something..." With his free hand, the red-brown raptor wrapped his claws around the tails of the three small dinosaurs he had clutched in the crook of his elbow and held them out to Sylicora. "It's not much, but it should last a little while, anyway." The female took the tiny animals with a look of deep worry. "What'll we do after these are gone though? Will you be okay to hunt in a few days?" Beryl didn't immediately answer. If his leg was as badly fractured as he thought it might be, it would be a lot longer than a couple of days before he'd be able to run on it again. "I guess we'll see," he growled...

"You'd be wise to start learning how to hunt, young ones. As much a comfort as it is to not have to worry about catching your next meal, your father will not be able to do it for you forever. If you want him to recover from his injury, you'd be wise to take him somewhere quiet, and let him rest" growled the Elder as he leapt out of the tree, landing nearly silently in front of the trio, showing them for the first time a full view of his rusty red, black-striped form, his black and blue quills laying flat against the back of his neck as his narrowed amber eyes drifting over each of the three with a scrutinising gaze...

Two sets of identical eyes snapped to the rusty raptor as he landed, both juveniles still looking uneasy. "We have a cave not too far from here, if I can make it," Beryl hissed, grimacing as he put some weight on his injured leg and became unsteady, the limb shaking slightly under the strain. Rhojis promptly moved to his side, allowing Beryl to loop his arm over his son's shoulders to steady himself. "We'll make it Dad," he hissed, trying to reassure himself more than anything. "Sy and I piled up some ferns in a corner. You can rest there." Beryl nodded to the younger raptor, then glanced over at the olive female, who was now staring mutely at the ground, the three tiny dinosaurs clutched tightly in her claws. "Sy, I think he's right about hunting. Now would be a good time for you and your brother to gain some skill." She blinked at the vegetation-covered ground, acknowledging him with a small grunt and a noncommittal tilt of her head...

Ripper eyed the elder of the trio with an intense gaze. "This island has no tolerance for weakness. You were lucky to escape with just a fractured leg. Most would simply kill you and leave your corpse for the Compies" hissed the Elder as he turned his back on them, beginning to walk towards the undergrowth. "Make sure your young learn to take care of themselves. You never know when something may occur to ruin what little peace you may have. If there's one thing I know about this island...it's that it will not leave you at peace for long" he growled as he disappeared into the undergrowth, the few rustles that could be heard soon falling silent...

"You found me completely by accident today," Steeltalon growled, unable to stop a small smile from making its presence known. "Who's to say you couldn't do it again?"

Xanthe led the pack with confidence, following the route he'd taken before. By now he was sure the sub-adults were growing tired; it was best to get there quickly, before something they couldn't handle on their own smelled the kill and came to claim it.

Savarna listened to the sounds of the pack's departure, keeping her eyes fixed on the three hatchlings she guarded. Gradually she was slipping into protective-mother mode; if anything tried to get at the nests or the youngsters, she'd rip it in two before it got close. The other guards were in much the same state, willing to put off eating until the others returned, for the sake of the pack's future.

Beryl watched the rusty raptor as he left, his expression slowly going blank, masking his troubled thoughts. Had he been too easy on them? Should he have pushed them harder these last few months? Up until recently, the twins' lack of skill hadn't been a problem. They'd always had two parents to bring in the larger kills while they practiced at their own pace on small creatures. But now, Beryl might as well be dead, for all he was worth to them with a broken leg. "Sy," he hissed gently, glancing at the olive juvenile, who didn't meet his gaze. "Let's go home." Without saying a word, she stepped up to her father's side and ducked under his other arm, helping Rhojis to support him as they began to walk slowly back toward the cave. "I know you're not looking forward to this, but we'll help you," Beryl growled after a moment. Sylicora's grip tightened on the tails of the little dinosaurs dangling from her hand, continuing to avoid eye contact. "Dad... I just don't think I can," she muttered. "Oh, with some practice and help I'm sure you'll improve. Rhojis can be the one to demonstrate. I've seen him-" "Rhojis has always been the better one! He doesn't make nearly as many mistakes as I do! Whenever we try to hunt together, I'm always the one who messes it up and scares the prey away, or trips and misses the only chance to catch it or... something. It's always something!"

"It goes on for so far..." Aircrest thought, walking over the cool mat of green. "So far...so... empty and...flat...". He wasn't used to the wide open space of the grassland. He was used to small breaks in the jungle, clearings and the occasional watering hole not shielded by a thick cover of leaves. This was something different all together. The sky wasn't obstructed by branches and when the breeze blew, there was was a void where the rustling of trees should be. Not to mention, it was strangely lonesome. He heard the low calls of grazers far off in the distance, but for as far as he could see, he was alone...

Meanwhile, several eyes were watching the sub-adult Allosaurs standing over their kill, predators hungry and willing to exert their power over the young hunters...

A Homalocephale burst through the undergrowth, bugling fearfully as it ran for dear life, the grey and tan form of a juvenile Rex exploding out of the bushes to it's side, colliding with it's flank violently, the Homalocephale stumbling, barely catching itself and righting its path, swerving in the opposite direction to the Rex's ram, swerving between the trees as the frustrated predator snarled as he bolted in pursuit, each stride launching the hunter forward at speeds bordering those of Raptors, the hunter's still slender figure allowing him agility adult Rexes could only dream of...

Fatalis chuckled with a smirk. "True enough. My luck with friends isn't quite as good as it is with escapes, so I dunno if I'm lucky enough to find you a SECOND time. I'll try though" he growled as he flexed his limbs, looking down at the ground, eyeing a Compy as it caught a Dragonfly flitting past, the small predator biting into the insect cheerfully, proud of it's triumph for the day. It had no idea that in a split second, that triumph would be it's last. in as long as it for the predator to take a bite out of it's winged prize, it was pinned and beheaded, the Raptor above having landed with one foot on it's tail, the other slicing through it's neck. Where once there was one corpse, now lay two. satisfied with his snack, Fatalis plucked up the Compy, ripping a limb off and gulping it down. "Hungry?" he barked up at the female...

The sub-adults were growing tired, even with their switching off to let half of their party get some rest. The hunt had been an exhausting one...luckily, Xanthe's deep growl, announcing himself to them, wasn't too far off. One young allosaur heaved a relieved sigh; another followed with a yawn. Their kill, a half-grown diplodocus, would feed the pack well for days. It was almost too good to be true...

Steeltalon cocked her head, considered, then carefully jumped down from her own perch. She'd already eaten - but who knew when her next full meal would be. Best to seize any opportunity fate - or another raptor - offered her. "Yes," she replied.

Beryl's eyes locked onto the younger raptor, the pain that was evident in them before now masked by something halfway between concern and irritation. "I know you're scared of making mistakes, but if you don't even give yourself the chance to try, how will you ever improve? Do you expect me to last forever?" Though she wanted to retort, the juvenile was stunned into silence, her gaze still pointed fixedly at the ground. After a moment, Beryl continued. " If I were to go the way of your mother, do you think Rhojis could hunt for both of you? Even if his skills were three times greater than mine, he still might appreciate help in some situations. You can't always do everything alone. Hunting is a team effort, Sylicora!" The olive raptor finally shot her father a sharp sidelong glance through narrowed eyes. "Did you ever think that maybe I don't want to be part of a team? I'd rather just learn some techniques from someone and practice by myself. At least then there won't be anybody around to criticize my every wrong move..." she hissed in a low voice, but with an unmistakably bitter edge. She turned away again, facing stubbornly forward, noting now the trees were gradually starting to thin...

Renegade let out a breath as he and Bane had crossed the threshold of their territory. His senses still a little fuzzy from being knocked out earlier, the two had been forced to take it slow, making their way back. They had been fortunate in not running into any trouble as they retraced their steps. The duo continued forward to report what had happened, to the others; the woodland refuge held a disturbing lack of sound, blanketed in complete silence...

The highlands surged upwards from the flat ground in the far off regions of the island. The image of the rise was hazy and distorted by a thin curtain of mist and a cover of large white puffy clouds stretched out overhead, blocking the sun. It was a strange sight, a gigantic stain of shadow far away when the rest of the grassland was bathed in the noontime light. Aircrest took in the scenery, taken aback by the sheer scale. If he were among the trees on that forested mountain, he would not have imagined just how huge the blanket of shadow was...
