"I don't know whether to laugh or cry at how dysfunctional a team you two make. What half-wit put you two together?....You know what? don't answer that. I really don't want to know" hissed Fatalis with a shake of his head. after a moment, he continued. "I'm not an idiot, 'Crash'. You smell of Death Valley, your behaviour and movement through the forest is like a beacon to everything with a decent set of senses, and your bickering could be heard on the other end of the island. If you were to act more like decent predators, maybe you could...oh, I dunno....Catch something to eat?" hissed the Raptor as he stepped back, letting Brighteyes up and giving her some space. They were in his element, and he had his eyes on the pair of them. Any slip up would just end in him killing one, or both of them...though with a bit of luck they'd learn from that incident and not risk irritating the dark Raptor further...

"You don't think we know that?" Brighteyes hissed irritably. "If we were capable of going BACK to Death Valley, we wouldn't be having this conversation," Crash added, a little more bold now that Brighteyes was back on her feet. "You know, Sharpclaw was right: all you jungle-dwellers really are barely worth the dirt you stand on..." Brighteyes growled, eyes narrowed...

"And that's the response I get for sparing your life. You Death Valley-dwellers are all the same. Ungrateful little lizards barely worth the air you breathe" retorted Fatalis barely a split second after Brighteyes finished her own comment. "I could've slit your throat, then gutted your friend, and no one would've cared. You should consider yourselves lucky I took pity on your situation. Trying to patch up your non-existent dignity with insults will get you killed very, very fast here" he added acidly...

Brighteyes and Crash glanced at each other. "Well... you started it!" "Oh shut up, Crash..." Brighteyes gave him a glare, then turned back to Fatalis. "Still, he has a point. We were being friendly enough. Don't see why you needed to demean us immediately. Seems a bit immature, don't you think?"

"You were trailing me, or at least, my meal. Do you know what that usually means here?" hissed Fatalis seriously, completely disregarding the naive reaction they had given him...

"Well, I suspect death, not an insult competition," Brighteyes replied flatly. "Regardless, we were trailing no one. We were sniffing out food, and it just so happens that the dead compy was the first thing Crash here smelled." She looked down at the ground. "We can't exactly afford to let even the smallest morsel go to waste right now..."

"Usually, when someone is trailing your scent, or your food, said someone is a tracker for a pack that wants you dead. It's kill or be killed here. You two have your comrades' scents all over you. There's the hunting group, right there. Your friend's panic literally saved your life. Any other response and I'd have slaughtered you both without so much as blinking, then moved on to kill off any other friends you had nearby. Then disappear from this part of the island for a year or so to make sure no survivors could track me down" explained Fatalis. "Your story doesn't hold up well. Two Raptors, obviously skilled ones to be sent so far from Death Valley.....and you can't even catch yourselves a meal? To say it was unlikely is an understatement"

"It's like I said, we weren't SENT from Death Valley," Brighteyes explained calmly. "Normally, our pack stays in the plains or in the valley itself, where we can hunt more effectively. We may not have camouflage, but I'd like to think we're some of the fastest Raptors on this entire island in a straight sprint. We can outrun and outlast prey in the open, but we're useless in the jungle. We were driven out of our homes by..." She went silent, swallowing audibly as she tried to come up with something to say. Crash spoke for her. "Well, to be honest, we don't know WHAT they were. All we know is that some of our packmates are dead, and the rest were run out of Death Valley and forced into this... PLACE..."

Red made a growling noise and shut his eyes, "Sorry to hear that, I can't say I understand your pain but I know what its like to be alone, allies are hard to come by, especially for my kind. I would ask you how many others you've seen like me, but to be honest I seem to be the only one left, I'm too large and ravenous to fit in well with other, smaller raptors. Larger predators always seem to be at odds with my presense, for whatever reasons. I've often had to travel this island, following my own migratory pattern. If I spend more than a few days in one location, word seems to spread like fire. Then they either try to chase me off, challenge me to prove their supiorority, or ententionally try to kill me. Over the years some have come to simply acknowledge my presense being temporary, and the moment they appear on the horizon its my que to leave." The Raptor paused, in recalling this. Then he stared out over the water gazing at something that wasn't quite there. "So then tell me... if you had no choice then, what choice would you make now?" Red asked as he stared back.
"We all go about our daily lives, waiting for the next big thing, the next cool trend, even the smallest bits of info on anything happening, but what we're really waiting for... is for something interesting to happen to us, thats what draws us to the rich and famous... we want to be like them... I don't, I'm fine with who I am... and you should be too" - RT3

"Hm. Tough luck. Still, I suppose you could be worse off. You could have arrived BEFORE That Allosaur arrived and killed the Baryonyx on the other side of the clearing. a pair of obvious, relatively incapable Raptors would make a much easier meal than a Baryonyx" hissed Fatalis with a shrug as he glanced around briefly, wary of any sign they had an unwanted audience...

"About what? You?" growled Crusher as he cocked his head curiously, eying the Utahraptor. He had seen others like it. even groups of them, typically 3 to 5 members in size But what the raptor meant by choice, he didn't know...

"Maybe... but what I'm asking is... nevermind, I shouldn't force onto you what what I seem to be burdened with... Thoughts of the future," Red growled.

Crusher's eyes narrowed at the Utahraptor's words, the Rex thinking through his response for a moment before growling "Regarding how to respond to you, you've seen it. What right have I to keep a roamer from roaming? Especially being one myself?". The Rex rose into a crouch as he turned his back on his mostly devoured meal, lowering his head to the edge of the large pool, taking a few mouthfuls of water to quench his thirst and wash away the blood from his jaws. "As for others of your kind, you're not the first. I've seen groups of your kind on occasion. usually in threes and fours. sometimes fives if they're a big pack" growled the Juvenile Tyrannosaur as he licked his fangs, yawning widely after his meal as he settled down on his flank, tail curling partially as the Rex lay, eyes open but otherwise resting...

"My philosophy? Think about the POSITIVES," Brighteyes hissed, rolling her eyes. "Unfortunately, it's not working too hot right now. Those glowy-eyed FREAKS who stole our home made sure of that..."

Red looked back over at the Rex and thought Good... stay focused on the present, and how I wish I have that simple bliss... the freedom to keep to the present and never let my mind wander... or rather wonder what the future holds. Red then started to open his mouth to ask a question but then thought against it, he simply took a few steps back, layed down, and looked out over the water again staring at something that wasn't quite there.

Steeltalon crouched on her branch, watching the confrontation play out. it didn't look like fatalis needed her help, but her leg muscles were tensed to spring and her killing claws were at the ready. Her eyes narrowed to glittering crimson slits. Her foreclaws made only the softest rasp on the bark as she leaned forward to get a better view of things. She didn't recognize the raptors as being from Riptide's pack, but her deeply engraved instincts to avoid any and all raptor packs made the big scar on her flank twinge with phantom pain. Her distrust was probably what had kept her alive this long....

"That was OUR kill!" a sub-adult male snarled when the pack waw out of earshot of the spinosaurs, running forward to cut Xanthe off. The alpha male grunted, but didn't put down his mouthful of flesh to respond. "How could you just let them take it like that, Xanthe?!" One or two other sub adults shifted uneasily, as if they agreed with what was being said, but didn't dare add their voices to the outcry. "You're our alpha!" the younger male persisted. "You're not supposed to run away, like a coward!" At that, one of the adults muttered, "Now he's done it...." Xanthe turned to face the younger male, uttering a low growl as he took a step forward. The meat fell from his jaws as Xanthe bared bloodied teeth. In that moment, the young male realized he'd crossed a line and backed off a few paces, eyes wide. "Coward...?" Xanthe snarled. "You call me a coward. Are you so confident as to challenge my leadership, young one?" Golden eyes narrowed as the sub-adult stammered, trying to form a reply. Without waiting for the youngster to finish, he went on, "Only a foolish leader leads his pack into a battle they stand no chance of winning. Would you have me lead you all to your deaths? We have hatchlings to think about, or had you forgotten?" Turning away, he picked up the sauropod meat again and resumed walking. The other sub-adults filed past the half-terrorized young male, not looking at him, ashamed though it hadn't been them being rebuked.

"Glowing eyes?" growled Fatalis curiously. "Sounds like Troodon. clever pests. Would never hesitate to stab you in the back. How'd you get on their bad side?" he hissed through a half chuckle-half snort, thoughts of the large eyed dromeosaurs occurring to him as well as a possible scenario...

After a few moments of silence, Aurora let the lump of meat in her jaws drop between her claws, balancing it carefully over the other slab as she growled "I've seen the large one before. His comrades call him Thrasher. He was responsible for the death of one of my friends in my old pack. Back then he was just another one of the pack...Last I heard, he had been part of an attack on a large pack of Rexes, and killed the Most Dominant predator in the process. Looking at him now though...He seems to have more control over his packmates than last time". memories still haunted the female of the days before she met her mate...back when she was with her own family. the friend she spoke of was the youngest of the generation of Allosaurs before her own in the pack. only one thing had ever hurt her emotions more than the sight of her best friend being slaughtered by the Spinosaur.....and that had been the discovery that her mate had vanished. and unlike the latter, the former had no chance of reversal. While she may one day see her mate again....her old friend was gone forever...

"What's your name?" growled Crusher absently as he lay on the edge of the large pool, occasionally dipping his head and lapping up a mouthful or two of water, relaxing in the relative peace of the location...

"Troodon?" Crash echoed. "Never heard of them..." Brighteyes shrugged. "Neither have I. I don't know what exactly they want, but I bet between you and Sharpclaw, you could figure it out..." Crash arched a scaly brow. "Wait, we're asking for his help now? Did you forget what happened minutes ago?" Brighteyes snorted. "Do you have a better idea?" Crash opened his mouth to speak, then quickly shut it, at a loss for words...

"What happened a few minutes ago was me expecting to be killed at any moment for stepping on some random pack's toes unknowingly, and you being the unfortunate justification for my concerns" Growled the Raptor as he paced slowly, keeping his gaze directly on the duo, evidently still skeptical of their innocence. It wouldn't be the first time a pack sent decoys to try and fool him. "As for the invite, no thanks. I don't accept invitations that don't benefit me personally. Call me selfish, but that's how life works. You want my help, make it worth my while" hissed Fatalis through narrowed eyes...

Brighteyes and Crash looked at each other for a moment. "Well, maybe Sharpclaw can offer you something?" Crash suggested. "I don't know what, though. Protection, maybe? Do you even need it?"
