AIDS awareness day....one of the most depressing days of the year...

AIDs is bad m'kay. Though I distinctly remember hearing about a possible "cure" a while ago. Something that stop the immune system screwing that comes with AIDs.

I think you're talking about that one cancer cure in the news recently. the pills that neutralised [IIRC] Ovarian Cancer [or was it Breast Cancer? I don't remember. either /or].

But an AIDS cure? I can't remember any news about that. only solution at the moment, to my knowledge, is precaution. the way it works makes it very difficult to disable. it basically breeds inside the immune system's cells, simultaniously removing itself from the immune system's list of threats, so to speak. it then consumes the entirety of the protective cells, leaving the body vulnerable to any and all invading bodies.

At least, that's what I remember learning about it in Biology class....2-3 years ago. my info may be a bit rusty though. Can't be bothered to check it at present...

on the topic of WoW: I was pissed since I found out they were gonna turn Deathwing into a Flying Spaghetti Monster for the end fight. So yeah. Not much has changed on my thoughts of it. I reached my peak interest in it when the Cataclysm Cinematic trailer was released. Crowning Moment of Awesome is literally defined in that cinematic. it was a downward spiral from there. pandas, aspects that are completely useless and random Japanland worlds are just the first step towards WoWs drop to rock bottom.

KP: That pretty much sums it up. The virus attacks CD4 cells, specifically, weakening the immune system and allowing other viruses to wreak havoc on the body. Hell, your own body can be your worst enemy. Bacteria that you lived with every day with no problems whatsoever suddenly turn on you, leading to all sorts of complications. viruses that we have vaccines for and wouldn't worry about while healthy can get into your system and cause several diseases at once.

If you catch HIV early enough, there are treatments to prevent the progression of the disease, but we have no cure. Each strain of HIV is slightly different in some small way, due to imperfections in the virus's genetic coding, making it virtually impossible to vaccine people against it.

HIV's a nasty virus, to be sure, but because it can only be transferred via fluid-on-fluid contact, prevention is rather simple if you're smart and careful.

...unfortunately, intelligence and caution are rare commodities nowadays... -_-'

UR: Well, I posted an RPG request just yesterday, in recent news. :P TOTALLY nothing else interesting that happened in your absence. Not one thing... >.>

Yeah. It's sad when you think about it...if people were smarter about their habits, maybe the disease wouldn't be so widespread.

Of course, it's just evolution at work: what better way for a virus to reproduce than by taking advantage of instinct, and infiltrating the immune system of a victim? Interesting to think that a bundle of proteins and genetic material can do so much so effectively.

And here we used to say that we were the supreme beings. :P

In other news Youtube has succeeded in making a even more hairbrained, hideous, overly complicated menu. :-_-: What the hell were they thinking when they made that... piece of garbage?

Because I'd rather not be traipsing around a bunch of Asian stereotypes? I'd rather be doing fantasy related things, like stabbing dragons or an undead horde.

Not to mention, every significant bad guy in Japanland will be people we've never heard of. Oh sure I killed the Lich King and the dragon Aspect of death, but MASTER FUMANCHU THE MANTIS COMBAT ARTISAN is totally a force to be feared hur dur.
