"The question remains however; what may my friend and I call you?" Desrium went on to ask, realizing that he nor Septimus asked for the creature's name.

"You may call me Jiier," the simian replied, making his way back into the cave, expecting Desrium to follow.

"It is good to have met you then, Jiier" the armored being concluded, walking into the cave as well and heading back towards the pool. He laid the carcass of the bird wyvern down just beyond the charred circle Septimus made. He had a feeling his friend would be hungry when he awoke.

Blazed Blood sat in his saddle, watching the road with the rest of his command party. The camp of the main force was pitched next to the road, with about a quarter of the total army milling about their daily tasks within. The rest of the army was dotted around the volley. The main infantry were separated into two groups, and had taken cover in the rocky ledges over looking the road. Skirmishers were lower down in the valley, hidden in the grass and bushes, and a unit of Sand Runners waited with the command party in the woods on the east slope of the valley. The camp would give the impression of the army resting, unaware as to what was coming. Blazed Blood was hoping that once the human scouts reported the camp, that their commander would rush to take advantage of the situation before fully assessing it. There was one more factor in his favour. He'd sent his berserkers into a villagers 3 kilometres down the road. Everyone who hadn't already fled was executed, the livestock was slaughtered, and the houses and crops burnt. The humans would have to travel through the devastation to reach them. The sight of their slain kinsmen was sure to raise tempers and send them into a rage, clouding their better judgement.

He didn't want an open battle with the humans. As confident as he was in his army's equipment and discipline, the humans and their war beasts were huge. If they were to strike with enough force, he feared they would break his army before he could properly pin them. The human charge would be immense, which is why the tents in the valley were filled with wooden barriers and contraptions. Modified wagons essentially, with mountings for spears and slots for crossbows to fire through. They would use the barriers to block and funnel the humans into a single area, where their superior speed counted for nothing, and where their own size was a hindrance.

"In the dungeon with Formidonis," Draco said. "Why?"

"Double security, magical and otherwise," Zazikel hissed. "The Shade will return, and we must be prepared. I will not allow a magical artifact of that much power be placed in the wrong hands. Not until I figure out a way to unlock its full potential..."

Draco nodded. "I will see to it the royal guards watch Formidonis' pen day and night."

Immanis chimed in this time, "Anything else that is needed, Zazikel?"

"I would like to see more than just royal guards, Draco," Zazikel growled. "You have seen for yourself what that creature is capable of, and you heard how powerful that amulet was..."

"What else can I give?" Draco inquried forcefully. Immanis backed down behind the throne as the king rose to his feet.

"I don't have magical creatures or sorcerors, Zazikel. At best, I have some gryphons and of course the drake, but not much else."

"That is... unfortunate..." Zazikel growled lowly. "Frankly, I am rather surprised you are lacking in significant magical defenses..."

Immanis left the room, since Draco probably wanted some privacy.

"We haven't faced a magical threat since the days of Dhoulmagus," Draco said. "The most magically adept people are probably the priests, but they use healing magic, not barrier magic.

"Perhaps," Draco growled. "Perhaps we are in need of some mages amongst our ranks."

"They are not uncommon, Draco," Zazikel replied. "Send out a message. Ask for mage recruitment. They will flock to you if you provide the right payment and motivation."

Draco nods to Zazikel. "I shall send the letter out when dawn breaks." he paused. "Is there anything else you need of me?"

Zazikel shook his head. "No. I must go and study the amulet. If it is as powerful as the Shade claims..." The Archdemon didn't finish his sentence, simply disappearing into the floor...

Several hours later, the sun shining brightly above Aster at noon, Andruil finally stepped out of the large, ghastly forest. his cloak had taken several tears and he had a gash across his left brow that descended downwards halfway down his cheek; a memento from an angry imp. through the last few hours they had had sporadic skirmishes with monstrosities most only saw in their darkest nightmares. But finally, they were through. In the last several dozen feet of the forest, they had set up camp and rested for a few hours, needing the rest for the trek ahead. And now, they had finally put the forsaken forest behind them. Before them stood a massive mountain range, icy peaks shimmering with freshly fallen sheets of snow, which only partially cloaked the black, volcanic stone beneath. Somewhere up there, was the entrance to the Dwarven Kingdoms...

Cyan rings shone brightly as the Dragon's eyes opened after several hours of rest. the shimmer of the iris was almost bright enough to illuminate the ground around his resting head. Rising to his feet, Septimus yawned widely, the bright blue-white glow of the Dragon's mouth resembling that of a miniature sun, the large bone crushing retractable fangs flexing widely, black fangs set in rich navy blue gums. Finally awake, Septimus glanced around to see what had become of their primate friend...

Two heavy footfalls were audible from the forest behind Andruil and the others. A few moments later, Nitsunobue's head came forth from the deep dank forest.

"I found you! Finally!"

Nitsunobue said as he turned towards hi supposed friends....

Jiier was seated at the mouth of the cave overlooking the crevice, legs crossed underneath him in a sort of meditative state, completely silent.
