Burzum lowers his blade. "If you insist."

Burzum makes a less discreet arm motion, and the orcs lower their bows.

"A wise choice," the entity stated, finally showing some trace of emotion in its tone: amusement. "The next time I return here, it will be for your hide," it continued, dissolving before their eyes as it returned to the smoke that blanketed the city...

"What do you think it was?" rumbled Septimus concernedly as he eyed the direction the cloud had shot off in. "Bad" was Thurduunax's only response as he kept flying, not giving it a second glance. The aura he sensed as it flew past chilled him to his core. Septimus wouldn't realise it's significance due to his inexperience. But for something as ancient as Thurduunax.....there was no denying whatever it was....it was powerful. immensely so. He hoped for the sake of his Clan and for that of every other being in Aster that it did not see them as worth bothering with...

Thurduunax wasn't the only one who had sensed it's malevolence. Arashi too, usually calm and relaxed, detached from the troubles of the world around him, now looked to the darkness on the horizon, glowing eyes unreadable. For the first time in millennia....he actually felt uncomfortable with his ignorance of what it was he sensed. You're not alone, Arashi...You're not alone murmured Gilgamesh in the Dragon's head...

The pebbles around Desrium started to clatter and jump as forces unseen began to act upon them. As time passed they rose from the ground all together, orbiting the Blood Omen, whose gaze stared past into the horizon. The light brown canyon dust formed strange patterns as it drifted around the armored entity, reflecting his own inner balance. Under his will his magical energies were gathered and concentrated and in effect, started impacting the environment. Just as Jiier's power triggered a warp in time and space in the caverns, his own power was negating gravity itself around him. First were the dust and pebbles, then himself, rising steadily a few inches at a time from the platform, suspended within the thin ring of Earth.

Aviva limped forward to take a long drink, her pain and exhaustion evident. Zar stayed near her, flicking his forked tongue in and out of his mouth nervously. He didn't drink until Aviva had finished, and when she limped off to stretch out in the sun, he followed, resting a safe distance away from the injured female with his good eye facing her. She wouldn't thank him if, in his efforts to comfort her and take her mind off the pain, he jarred her wounds.

Arsenic had carefully removed himself from the saddle, taking care to avoid putting too much weight on his leg. Finding a place to rest, he took the time to gently explore the injury with his hands. The calf muscle felt tense, hot and swollen even through the fabric covering it; when he pushed up his pants leg to look at it closely, he could see that large purple bruises had formed in several places. He grimaced, wondering just how bad the damage to the muscle was.

Not far away, Vix was carefully pulling the makeshift bandage away from her arm, biting her lip whenever the cloth stuck to the gash and made fresh blood ooze out. When she'd removed it she studied the blood-stained strip of cloth for a second before turning her attention back to her wound. Her face was still sore, but a little bruising was nothing compared to her treatment at the hands of the slavers. She barely noticed the pain.

It wasn't long before Andruil returned, straight bits of wood in hand. he had sliced off the small branches and rough spots in the wood so that they wouldn't jab into the limbs they were meant to support. He had removed some rolls of bandages from the satchel attached to Furax's saddle, along with some poultices and seeds he carried in fine woven rolls of cloth, surrounded by salt to keep them dry. "Hey Arsenic, how bad is your leg?" inquired the man as he approached, the various medical supplies in hand. He glanced towards Vix concernedly. He'd head for her next...

'Hard to say,' Arsenic answered, looking up. Seeing Andruil glance at Vix, he felt the faintest stirrings of amusement, but pushed it aside. While Vix had been fortunate enough not to trigger another seizure, she was still hurt. 'It looks and feels like I strained it enough to tear the muscle, though.'

Andruil nodded, looking at his supplies and setting them down, soon producing a clay bottle that smelled of something between wine and cherries, handing the potion to Arsenic along with a few black seeds. "The potion should help the wound. But I suggest taking it slowly. It practically knits flesh together. has a nasty sting if you take it too fast, and believe me I've tried" said Andruil with a smirk. "That's what the seeds are for by the way. To help cut down the pain. As for the potion, one swallow should be enough. one or two and your leg'll be usable within the hour Give it two hours and it'll be like it was never there. Just try not to squeal or scream while drinking it" he said with a joking smile...

Suddenly, Jiier's eyes shot open, the meditating simian's gaze staring out over the opposite side of the canyon wall. "Desrium!" he barked, rising to his feet in one swift motion. "We need to leave. Now."

Arsenic nodded, giving a wry smirk. 'I think I'll manage,' he said, raising the bottle to his lips and saying, 'Cheers,' before taking a swig and handing it back. He tilted his head back a bit, letting the liquid trickle down his throat a little at a time rather than swallowing it all at once. He rolled the seeds in his palm, debating whether to use them now, or as needed, even as he commented quietly, 'Vix will be stubborn about her injuries. She'll play them off as being not so bad as they really are. She's used to being the one taking care of everyone, not being taken care of.'

At his teacher's voice, Desrium's eyes flashed to their bright blue state for a split second, a wispy trail shooting off from his helm before his crimson stare returned. The pebbles and dust collapsed into a roughly circular pile around him as Desrium dropped back onto the platform, landing on his sabatons. "Septimus' things" he said as he felt the familiar overwhelming presence of magic approaching. Indeed, he had to leave, but not without the parting gifts of his friend...

"We don't have time for that-" Jiier began angrily as the mouth of the cave darkened. Overhead, the sky was drenched in a storm of smoke as black as the darkest night. Just as it had before, a portion of the shadows shot down toward the outcropping they stood upon, writhing and squirming to form the blackened, faceless armor. Jiier took a step back, his staff already drawn, though the armored entity did not move.

"That is not wise," said the Blood Omen to Jiier as his gaze fell on the other armored being. "Lower your weapon" he added thereafter. His eyes were flaring, casting their scarlet light around him, but the darkness prevailed as it were simply swallowing the shine...

Andruil nodded. "I'll keep it in mind" he said, as he picked up the supplies and headed over to the girl, smiling for the sake of lightening the mood as he spoke. "How're you managing, Vix?" he asked...

"You've learned. Good," the entity rasped with a dark chuckle almost completely lacking emotion. Jiier looked between the two, refusing to drop his guard, but was hesitant to attack. "Desrium, what is going on?" Jiier questioned, his concern evident in his voice. "Yes, Desrium, explain to your friend the futility of his actions," the armored being responded, still standing as still as a statue.

"His power outclasses our own tremendously. He could destroy us now in an instant but doesn't out of his own preference" Desrium answered, his voice unchanging even in the face of what almost was his doom in Zuppoland.

"You flatter me," the entity stated. "But the scrapheap speaks the truth. You insult me, you know, threatening me with a stick," it continued, Jiier's staff leaping out of his own well trained grip. The weapon soared into the armored being's open hand, the blackened armor creaking loudly as it looked down at the weapon. "Primitives," it spat, throwing the staff off the side of the outcropping, down into the canyon itself.

"As well as can be expected, given what we've all been through," Vix replied, almost automatically placing her hand back over her wound. Looking up at Andruil, she added in a joking tone just slightly laced with pain, "All things considered, I'm almost surprised we all still have all our limbs attached."

Desrium watched as the ornate staff was flung off the side of the canyon, disappearing beyond the rock wall without nary a discernible sound to mark its entry into the treeline below. When his sword was taken from him, Desrium gave into his primal drives immediately. He could only wonder how Jiier felt upon losing his weapon, his only ally in the canyon for who knows how long. "If I still require punishment for my previous actions, then I will be punished. But if I am in the position to ask, then I only ask you leave my companions alone" Desrium said as he eyed the shadowy figure...

"Admirable," the entity stated, looking back up at the two. Jiier remained in a combat stance, though his expression was unreadable. "But it is not why I am here. Clearly you have learned that to oppose me is futile," it continued, a pulse of blackened energy spreading out from Desrium's back, moving like a ripple in a pond. The Blood Omen fell forward suddenly, unable to move his limbs. The armored being started forward, as Jiier lashed out the moment it neared his incapacitated friend. With a wave of its hand, Jiier was slammed into the side of the cave several feet behind him, an incredible force pinning him to the stone. The impact forced the breath from his lungs, leaving the simian gasping for breath as the pressure increased. "As such, I am here to offer you a chance to play for the winning team. Defiance, although a disease that infests every filthy mortal, can be exterminated with proper treatment," the entity explained as it approached, reaching down to draw the Blood Omen's sword from its sheath. The blade was wreathed in the smoke that still blanketed the sky overhead, exuding a chilling aura around it as the true nature of its being was revealed. "Consider this insurance. Should you choose life over death, you may have it back, along with power beyond anything that exists on this...'Aster'," the entity explained, Jiier crying out as his mind was probed by the armored being, presumably to retrieve the name of the continent.
