"A good warrior can kill regardless of the tool he's armed with. A friend of mine once killed 5 mercenaries with nothing but his mug of ale, a plate, a spoon...and a napkin" said Andruil as he continued eating...

"A napkin, you say?" Tetto hissed, giving the remnants of his fish to Mordecai to gnaw on. "Do elaborate, Andruil..."

Vix almost choked on the piece of fish she'd been about to swallow. "A napkin?" she asked, chuckling and turning to face the knight. "The other miscellaneous objects, I can understand, but I have to agree with Tetto; where does that one factor in?"

Arsenic almost missed the whispers as he walked by a group of humans and elves, he was so distracted. But he paused when he heard, "a stranger in the village," and turned his head, wondering who they were talking about. It couldn't have been Andruil's comrades - the speaker had mentioned only one. The group had yet to notice him; an older man murmured, "What did he look like?" "Rowan said that he's an elf, wearing a white trench coat," a woman replied, her voice low. Arsenic felt his blood run cold as she went on, "Eyes the silver of mercury..." Arsenic turned away and began walking again before he could hear more, feeling as though he'd just jumped into freezing water. just a coincidence, he tried to convince himself. Plenty of people have gray eyes and wear trench coats.... But somehow, he couldn't quite shake the feeling that.... Giving his head a rough shake, Arsenic picked up his pace until he was jogging toward Aviva, trying not to give himself any more time to think.

Andruil chuckled at the reaction he got. "Well, my friend, a fellow knight by the name of Idrasil, and I had just completed a mission a few days travel from Valenhad city. I seem to remember the job involved a band of murderers and thieves preying on one of the nearby trading villages. Dealt with them over a period of two weeks. The evening we had finished them off and ensured the mission was over, I suggested we stop in the nearest town, grab a few drinks, have some fun before we headed back home" explained Andruil as he finished off his fish, tossing the bones aside into the undergrowth, knowing the native fauna would likely make short work of the scraps. "So we walk into the village in the early evening, and rent a room in the local inn. That night we have a few drinks, sing a few songs, tell a few tales, and generally entertain ourselves and those around us. We were both cloaked at the time, so our uniforms weren't obvious. I excused myself for a moment and left the room through a side door. No sooner had I walked out than the door of the inn gets kicked open and in come 6 men from a known group in the Kingdom. They generally had a habit of walking the line between criminal and innocent work. But it was obvious by the look of these guys and their attitude that they were the former type. Mercenaries that resorted to petty crime if they couldn't get a job. So they walk up to the bar with their swords, axes and hammers drawn, while my friend was having his meal" he explained as he stood up, replacing the skewer on the barbecue spit and leaning against the tree as he continued.

"They demand the bartender and everyone present to hand over their gold, and take the innkeeper as a hostage. Now it's probably a good time to say my friend has a bit of a temper, and had dealt with this group before. They were hardly of a calibre to be feared, in spite of their murderous tendencies. So while everyone's cowering, I sneak round to the other end of the inn, to get the jump on the one holding the innkeeper hostage, and meanwhile, my friend is sitting on his stool eating like nothing was happening. Distracting the mercs. So the lead Merc jabs him with the end of his crossbow and says 'Hey, swine! Did the ale make you deaf? I said hand over your gold!'" explained Andruil with a smirk, remembering the incident well. "So Idrasil swings around, driving a spoon through the fool's eye socket and apparently through his skull, killing him instantly. That moment I stepped in from behind, grabbed the one holding the innkeeper captive by the neck and tugged him out the door, knocking him out in the process. Meanwhile, Idrasil splashes the ale in his mug all over a second merc's face, and throws him into the fireplace, the man burning alive right there, then drives the rum mug top-first through the next merc's neck. the next one runs at him as Idrasil grabs his plate, which was more a tray than a plate like the one you're eating from, and swings it right into the merc's face, smashing his teeth, and I suppose most of his face in. He grabs the man by the neck and slams him face first into the corner of the counter, killing him. the last one turns to run and Idrasil grabs the napkin, unfolding it and swinging it over the man's head and into his mouth like a gag, pulls it back so the man bends backwards, then pulls it sharply, the force of the tug dislodging the man's skull from his spine and killing him. We then interrogated the one I incapacitated and tracked down their activities, but that's a story for another time" he said...

Just as the three were about to plunge into the creeping shadows, they came across a vast overgrown forest. The forest was noticeably ancient: many of the trees towered over the rest of the landscape by several tens of feet. Although it was teeming with life, the songs of the birds were strangely quiet, giving the forest a very calm air to it. At what appeared to be the center of the forest was a plateau standing high above the rest of the primordial jungle, just as overgrown as the rest of the landscape. However, old, decaying structures were visible atop the plateau if one looked hard enough through the foliage. This was the shrine, Agnaroth.

Jiier's attention, however, was drawn not by the shrine itself, but to the surrounding landscape. Two small but noticeable smoke trails wafted up into the sky from the forest below, and the sounds of many different voices could be heard as they approached...

"I'll say," Vix commented to the skink, finishing off her meal. "I'd expect a napkin to rip before it managed to kill someone." She suddenly gave a bright laugh, remembering an amusing tale an assassin had come home with once. "Then again," she added, still chuckling, "I suppose there are always strange methods of killing out there."

"What can I say, the inn wasn't catering to the wealthy. They just got utensils that lasted. the spoon, plate and mug were perfectly fine by the end of the ordeal. More than can be said for their victims" said Andruil with a chuckle. He didn't mention the destination, knowing that the village was supposed to be at least somewhat unknown. It was Vix's call whether she told him or not....

Septimus eyed the heavily forested ground below, the shrine visible at a distance, though they were closing in rapidly. the smoke trails billowed up amidst the trees, but their size and the terrain proved this was not a forest fire. the voices he heard below only further confirmed his suspicions. humans...However, he sensed another presence in their midst, which was not unfamiliar to him...

"Home," Vix said, a wistful note creeping into her tone. "Back to where we came from," she added more briskly, shaking off the longing the thought of the village stirred. It was a small village, relatively unheard of, and peaceful - until the archdemon found it. Another splash sounded; Zar turned, a second fish trapped in his jaws.

The congregation of magical energy was what caught the Blood Omen's attention more than anything else. He pushed his way out of the satchel and into the rain; making sure to close it upon his exit and climbing up onto Septimus' shoulders, his beating wings thumping loudly as he prepared for landing...

Elias nodded as they spoked . " ah " he laid against the tree his eyes growing heavy " I'm just gonna rest for a moment I'm sorry " he said as politely as he could as he closed his eye and started to drift off into a light sleep .

"How do you wish to proceed?" Jiier asked as they began to approach the shrine itself. On one hand, they were told to go to the shrine itself. On the other, the only intelligent life seemed to be down in the forest itself...

"Perhaps we are to be a special audience for our unknown messenger" Desrium suggested. "If so, the shrine should be our destination"

Septimus descended, splaying his wings and secondary wing-fins to slow his approach. As much as the life below seemed to hint that it was the location he should be going to, there was something about the shrine that piqued the Dragon's curiosity. There was some form of disturbance in the balance of mana around that place. Something was amiss. However, what that was, he had trouble guessing. Still, between the humans and the mana disturbance and the shrine, it seemed more likely the shrine was the source of the psychic message they had received in Silverlake. "Something is out of place here. The shrine is disturbing the mana fields of the area. I would say that is most likely where we will get our answers. Still, probably best we land closer to the outskirts...give us some breathing room if things go foul" responded Septimus as he banked, circling round as he passed the shrine, descending towards a courtyard below...

Andruil eyed Vix sympathetically as she mentioned her home. The longing in her voice, and her gaze, were easy to see. He knew the feeling. "We'll be there by noon tomorrow. Not far to go now" he said reassuringly...

Desrium braced himself with reserved anticipation when Septimus made his approach, his nature making the shrine an appealing place. He would be sure to explore the area once given the chance...

Jiier nodded, following Septimus as the two landed at the entrance to a very large courtyard of mossy grey stone. The courtyard was extremely wide, so much so that creatures of their size could file in without feeling confined. On each side of the two were smaller structures seemingly designed for something around the height of an average human, decaying with the rest of the shrine. At the opposite end of the courtyard some yards away stood a massive structure, several times larger than those around them in all aspects of its being. Even the entrance to the structure was massive, easily allowing the two dragons to enter side-by-side. A few yards from the staircase they now ascended to the courtyard proper was an enormous stone hammer, several times Jiier's height, laying with its handle towering above them. The hammer head itself was pointed at one end, resembling an anvil.

Jiier approached the statue of the hammer, eyeing it curiously. It was decayed slightly, but seemed to endure the passage of time better than their surroundings.

Desrium looked around the site, long since claimed by time and hidden by the forest. The quiet of the surroundings only made the pattering of rain against the destitute structures that much more audible. Shattered pillars, cracked slabs, piles of debris from where expert crafts crumbled upon themselves all were laid bare, untouched except for the cover of moss and weeds that held the shrine in their emerald grip. "What a shame" Desrium commented, looking to the hammer, which almost seemed to be a remnant of better times for these ruins.
