"By the blood (the death), and of the fire (the conflict) and of the ash (the ruins). We send these conquered souls for you alone to judge, oh Azad, oh god of war. From their ashes, they shall rise as the phoenix, if you will it, oh god of fire. Their bones will fertilise the land, and spawn a million more, stronger and faster if you will their demise, oh judge of life and death. We, your ever adoring servants, will strike the death blow, and bring the fire to their walls, so that they may know your truth." -Prayer for the conquered: Cinderist book of war 19:5
The former human town of Carohall, currently camp of Blazed blood's crusade
Blazed blood rose from his knee, yanking his axe out of the human's skull. He dropped a single coin, soaked in blood, onto the lord's chest. In his last moments, the town's leader had sat in his tower, denying the destruction that had gripped his home. That these people put their trust in such a coward sickened the Badai chaplain. He glanced at his aide, Ash dancer, and nodded. Ash dancer immediately turned around, barking orders at the soldiers looting the room, everyone begun gathering their things, ripping down their ladders and grappling hooks and filing out of the building. They'd taken 2 days to loot the town, it was time to move on, and to send the spoils home.

Flaming Dogs
"Naw, it's like this."
Midnight kicked one foot out lazily, her raptor claw clanked and span around, spike extending out parallel with her leg, "You have to twist your ankle as you kick, the engineers will be up next week, they'll demonstrate the actual mechanisms inside the weapon and it'll become clearer."
The young blood nodded her head nervously, eyes wide, soaking up everything she heard. Her name was something like Evewind, of all the young bloods, she annoyed Midnight the least, probably because she spoke the least. One of the scouts swooped through the window of the common room, landing softly onto a perch. "The silent eyes were spotted on their way in, just past the north wall..."
Bladewing nodded and stood up "Thank you, dismissed." The scout nodded, leaving her position of attention and swooping back out the window she'd entered through. "Midnight, let's go."
Midnight sighed, but stood up anyway. She nodded to Evewind before taking wing as well and following Bladewings lead. They rolled around and swooped straight down vertically, falling through the common room before entering an opening in it's floor. Bladewing's wings spread out, Midnight following suit, both of them slowing and then rapidly changing direction, moving around a pair of support beams before exiting through a window in the side of the building. For the briefest of moments, they were soaring over the city of Flaming dogs, in the bright afternoon sun, before entering the next part of the Nightshade training complex, entering through another window and banking to the right into one of many corridors. The complex consisted of several roosts on the top of some of the tallest buildings in Flaming Dogs. All harpies in the unit were encouraged to compete for the quickest routes through the buildings, to make things ever more interesting, they had knocked some shortcuts into many of the rooms, making a casual trip from one part of the base to another into a makeshift assault course.
The scouts downed their beakers of juice quickly, both doing their best to control their breathing. The Nightshade unit called pairs of scouts like these 'silent eyes.' It was valuable training for recruits, and considered the first 'real' assignment any warrior should receive.
After giving them time to collect themselves, Bladewing motioned for them to speak. The scout on the right, with the swirling blue navy patterns, spoke "Blazed blood's crusaders won the battle, they completely destroyed the human army about 4 days ago, the day after they closed in on the town and destroyed it. They had just begun to loot it when we left."
The two exarchs were silent for a moment. Midnight spoke "What was the battle like? Leave the specifics for later, I just want a general idea."
The other scout spoke this time "When the crusaders heard about lord Dagan's army, they set up a large camp in the middle of the road, they hunted, lit fires, chopped wood, everything, but then under the cover of night, we saw them moving all of their wagons and mobile weaponry under the cover of the tents, while Blazed blood took his riders up the valley into the woods. The berserkers took advanced positions along the road side.
When Dagan heard reports of the camp, they couldn't resist the easy target, and they moved as fast as they could, believing they had the element of surprise.
As they neared the camp, the crusaders responded, frantically moving their remaining troops into position in front of the camp. Dagan sounded the attack and his cavalry attempted to charge the camp."
Midnight interrupted her "Cavalry? Like horses? Against Badai? Did nobody tell him the army he was fighting consisted of 1 ft tall munchikins?"
The scout shrugged and continued "The crusaders revealed their warmachines, moving their wagons and shields forward to form a semi circular wall infront of the camp, and then the archers and bolters opened fire. The rest of Dagan's army hurried after the cavalry, not aware of what was happening at the front line. The cavalry attempted to jump the wagon wall, but many were caught amongst the barricade of pikes. They still managed to smash a sizable hole into the crusader's defensive line, but as Dagan's army tried to take advantage of it, Blazed blood's riders came down from the top of the valley. Between the wall of crossbows, the troll riders and the berserkers, the army just fell apart. They begun to rally, but lord Dagan ran without sounding the retreat. They were destroyed utterly."
Midnight glanced at Bladewing, who looked concerned.
These crusades always meant bad news, especially when they returned with 'good' news.
