The forces of Germania were significantly less than those of the other armies, numbering around 700, butwhat they lacked in numbers, they made up for in technology. The crossbowers and knights were the main bulk of the army. Behind them were the trebuchet users, the massive seige weapons prepped and readied for use. The several dragon riders were high in the air on the backs of their mounts. Among them were a few forces that were especially odd... the war pig handlers, keeping the swine on leshes with one hand, and a torch in the other...

Mara turned to address the orcs in her command. "Orcs, just beyond those trees are the humans that you can slaughter. However, their defences are guarding the high walls, and breaking in would be near impossible... BUT, I just so happen to have a key to entering into the city... and that key, will dig their way in now..."

With that, she snapped her fingers, and the mound of dirt seemed to lower, until a hole emerged in it's place, a hole straight into the ground, left behind by the being that was digging its way into the Tristan catacombs...

"We'd prefer having them in peices," the woman replied. "We would probably kill them anyways, so you'd just save us having to clean up the mess."

The woman hands him the key. "Please, enjoy your stay. Your room is the one at the end of the hall to the right."

"Vras! Gijakudob! Thor! (Kill! Bloodshed! Massacre!)" The orcs chanted in an almost mindless frenzy. They couldn't wait to see blood once more!

Icil continued to fire similar orbs of darkness at Cyris in a rapid rhythm, her skin growing paler and paler with each blast. By the time she had finished, her skin had a white hue to it; it was almost as if her blood had stopped flowing. The succubus waited for a response for a few seconds quietly. Getting nothing, she let out a hmpf and turned back to controlling Rattlebones...

As the armies moved steadily toward the epicenter of the blight, the darkness only continued to grow, and land around them became as blackened and lifeless as the sky above. It wasn't long before they were forced to light the way artificially. Torches would enable poor visibility at best, but magical light had considerably more success, though it was still quite poor. Eventually, when they had almost reached the heart of the darkness, Radamand and Tzeench signaled for a halt.

"Give us sixty seconds, then lead them into position," Tzeentch said to the giant, who nodded. Tzeentch stood silent for a moment, and a split second later, a group of 14 mages emerged from the darkness that separated them from the assembled armies. The spellcasters were comprised of members from various factions, including goblins, humans, and Zuppolandians. With a swift nod, Tzeentch extinguished the light in her hand and shot off into the shadows, the group of mages trailing behind her. They all moved incredibly fast, using magic to alter their speed, and navigated the ruined landscape with extreme skill. As Tzeentch had taught them before the armies departed to battle, the spellcasters were using magic as a form of sonar, allowing them to traverse the hellish realm as if it were broad daylight. In thirty seconds, the group had reached their destination: the cliffs that Tzeentch had declared their field of battle.

The group was divided into threes. Each division moved to either a cliff or the space between them. With extremely fluid motions, the menagerie of spellcasters raised waist-high cover from the earth itself along the edges of the cliffs, as well as at the bases of the ramps that led further into the darkness. These short collums were spaced out every few feet, giving the defenders much needed cover when they required it. Tzeentch assisted in raising the earthen walls atop the middle of the three cliffs, focused as the rest of them on her goal. And for good reason. The assembled group of mages had been instructed to close their eyes completely as they worked, and to keep them that way until the bulk of the forces arrived. In the darkness, their eyesight was useless anyway, but this had been necessary for a very different reason.

A few hundred feet from the mages, situated in what seemed like mid-air, were two gargantuan glowing eyes, glaring down at them as they worked. The Traitor God was watching, yet he did nothing to stop them.

After the sixty seconds was up, Radamand let out a terrifying battlecry. "NOW, CHILDREN OF ASTER! TO YOUR STATIONS! LET THE FATE OF THIS LAND BE DECIDED!" he roared into the darkness behind him, his form seeming to swell a few feet as the giant began to emit a light of his own, like the pale glow of the moon. Radamand bellowed once more as he and the assembled armies charged off into the darkness.

Their plan was simple: Ranged soldiers and small divisions of melee forces would assemble on each of the cliffs, while the bulk of the close combat troops would be stationed in the passages between them, to hold the enemy at bay. Those stationed on the cliffs would pick off any airborne threats that attempted to attack the spellcasters, otherwise assisting the ground forces when able. The melee divisions on the cliffs would be there to deal with any enemies that landed or climbed onto the cliffs themselves that the ranged troops did not bring down. Siege machines would be placed at the back of the armies, where they could fire into the heart of the enemy, avoiding fire too close to the static line of defense. The defenders were instructed not to press into the enemy, even if they were succeeding.

Their job was to hold the line, and nothing more.

Cyris had been lost in a haze of black smoke and dust, confused by the many orbs fired at her. She had been hit by a few, but they left nothing but a few somewhat noticeable bruises. Coughing once, the corrupted huntress watched as the skeletal wyvern- along with her prey- departed. Cyris quietly followed as well as she could in this condition...

Icil's eyes continued to glow white, although she was finished spellcasting at the moment.

Jerrin nodded at the Innkeeper heading down the hall to his room. Entering his quarters Jerrin takes in his surroundings noting the medium size bed along with a large desk opposite of it. Grinning Jerrin takes off his hooded robe revealing his crimson armor, slowly the white haired Lycan removed his armor preparing himself for a nap before his hunt. Yawning, Jerrin slides himself under his bed's covers letting the lull of sleep take him, he would need his rest for what awaits him in the darkness of night...

"Ready the coulliards," the general growled. The massive siege engines were readied, the crankings of machinery audible in the valley, the wood and metal monstrosities groaning as their primary weapon- their throwing arm- was pulled down to the ground. Strong men loaded dozens of stones, roughly 3 feet across each, into the metal bowls at the end of the war machine's arm, before a man soon poured oil upon the stones and lit them all aflame. The archers readied their bows, drawing an arrow each and readying their weapons. The soldiers up front stood tall, unflinching as they awaited their commands.

"Ready shields, men. The time has come to spill their blood!" The general commanded. Like machines, the soldiers formed "the wall": Each and every soldier puttign their shield either in front of them, to the sides to protect the flanks, or over their heads to block incoming arrows, before they began their advance into the left pass. The shrill cries of the Grphons were audible high up in the sky, as they swooped down, searching for their foes. The knights took the pass the infatry weren't taking (the right pass), charging forward with their lances pointed outward, ready to impale those in their paths and trample any that get caught in front of their steeds. Formidonis was among the cavalry, the massive drake easily catching up with the horses, the primal beast ready for blood...

Nitsunobue was near the front of the charge. With his head lowered, horns ready to impale and his feet ready to trample, the wyvern was proud to be where he belonged: in a fight. His deep, raspy breath was soon overcome with a deafening roar, the haunting bellow hanging in the air as it shook in the chests of those near him. Powering on ahead, Nitsunobue continued his advance, ready to kill...

The two men- the mage and the swordman- let out a deep breath of relief. They had survived.

"Everybody alright?" Kard asked.

Tzeentch cursed under her breath. The Traitor already seemed to have his own defense, and they were closer than she had anticipated. The other armies, moving as quickly as they could, would not be able to get to the cliffs in time before their foes passed the barricades. Sending a mental message to the rest of the assembled mages, Tzeentch summoned as much power as she could and thrust her arms upward. Before the Draxonian forces reached the unoccupied line of defense, a massive 15 foot high wall of solid rock, several feet thick, rose up in front of them, spanning the massive distance between the cliff passes, effectively blocking their ground forces from nearing the barricades. The mages would maintain the wall of stone as best they could, using the pitch blackness and lack of wind to keep their presence hidden. It would buy their allies much needed time to prepare...

At this time a small division of the Daavenian forces were making their advance but it wasn't to meet the enemy at the front lines. No, these men and women were riding on Frondfoot mounts, the large lizards carrying on two to three Daavenian soldiers on their backs as they made their way up the rocky ramp that was the central cliff. They also hauled heavy crates attached by heavy duty steel chains. The strong reptiles climbed up the cliff almost effortlessly in spite of the weight bearing down upon them. Before long they were at the top, the fraction of the soldiers that were designated rangers getting their crossbows readied and rushing toward the ledge facing the oncoming army; crouching down and firing out into the darkness, guessing the general locations of foot soldiers by the resonating sound of their footfalls. The others tended to the wooden crates bound by black metal bands, opening the containers and making haste in setting up ballistae. The heavy siege weapons were comparatively smaller than the ones employed at Daaven to defend the palisade and thus were less powerful, however they needed to be assembled and deployed quickly to aid against airborne threats...

The vast majority of the Lizardmen army marched forward, not quite as fast as their allies around them. They would fill the gaps between the cliffs with walls of stone and scales, ready to hold the line for as long as they could. The Mage-Priests moved towards the cliffs themselves, the height giving them a significant advantage with their magic. The Stegadon carrying Tehenhauin and his Engine moved up to the cliffs as well, with the rest of the Skinks. Skink handlers, prodding their Salamanders and Razordons, moved to the edge of the cliff, where they could easily rain fire and thick spines down on the enemy below. The two remaining Stegadons moved with the rest of the melee infantry, to take advantage of their lethality...

The cavalry were the first to notice the wall, as they were moving far faster than the infantry were. The cavalry slowed to a halt, allowing the massive Drake Formidonis to take point. The beast, in his species' prime and covered in thick plate armor, sighted the wall and immediately knew what he had to do. With a thundering roar, Formidonis slammed shoulder-first into the wall, cracks forming upon impact and chunks of stones falling. Formidonis roared again, his armor plating absorbing the majority of the impact, before he reared onto his hind legs, beginning to beat against the stone wall with his muscular forelimbs. The armor-plated tools of destruction beat relentlessly against the wall, the relatively small crack caused by the shoulder-ram slowing getting bigger with each brutal blow, the metal "gauntlets" provign their superiority to simple stone as Formidonis began to wear on the stones through brute strength alone...

The crossbow bolts pinged uselessly agaisnt the shields that had been raised overhead by the Draxon infantry, the soldiers continuing their advance as if nothing had happened. Suddenly, sharp cries pierced through the air, as twin Gryphon riders swooped down upon those setting up the portable ballistae, sharp, powerful talons grasping tightly onto the hapless beings, one of them getting their head lopped off by a Gryphon rider's sword as he passed. As soon as the beings were in their mount's grasp, the riders were off, soon flying over the pass and dropping them to their deaths behind the draxon lines...

"Good..." Kard said. He then turned to Ivan. "How much farther to... whatever it's called?"

"Shouldn't be more than a couple minutes," the storyteller replied...

As one of the gryphons attempted to flee, the avian creature suddenly found its wings frozen solid. Unable to remain airborne, the creature and its cargo careened into the side of the cliff to the right of the one the ballistae were being deployed on. The gryphon itself collided head-first, its neck snapping audibly with the impact, while its rider and captive were thrown down the side of the cliff.

Meanwhile, the mages that stood behind the barricades several hundred yards from the wall continued to work their magic into its defense, the damage caused by the furious drake being partially repaired as soon as it was inflicted. This slowed the beast's progress considerably, but they could not work fast enough to undo the damage it was dealing.

The Gryphons and riders found themselves pelted by arrows as the elite marksmen fired upon them, the cries of their mounts giving their positions away in the darkness. When the remaining Gryphon attempted to lift the Daaven soldiers, an armored Frondfoot raised up and swung its claws into the feathered beast, batting it away. The expert firing brought down the mount, a precise shot to the eye that sent the head of an arrow through the Gryphon's brain. The rider was promptly slain by one of the siege engineers, a sword driven through the fallen Draxonian.

Cyris cursed aloud, knowing that their mode of transportation was much more reliable than hers. The elf ran for the direction of the tower, almost as if she knew it by heart...

Icil continued to steer Rattlebones towards the tower. The succubus had gotten plenty of things to write down in her journal both today and yesterday; almost too much. She noticed a large structure in the distance...

Other Gryphon riders circled far overhead, much higher than any of the archers could shoot them, before they flew back to the general to tell them of their observations, and the fates of two of their old comrades...

Formidonis continued pounding the stone wall, slowly but steadily tearing through the stone structure. The mammoth wall of muscle and steel didn't even seem to be tired from all the work he was doing...

Before the adventurers, an ancient, dilapidated tower could be seen looming in the distance, the sun silhouetting behind it. The tower was flat up top, and was relatively boring looking from what the exterior showed. But this place was definitely more than meets the eye...

"That must be it." Icil stated clearly, Rattlebones starting to speed up a little. "Would you guys like me to go there in full speed, or should I just keep going as is?"

The succubus's wings were fluttering slightly from excitement. She couldn't wait to see the swords in person...

"Fly quickly," Ivan said. "We mustn't waste any time. If we can get the jump on Cyris, then all the better. If she's ahead... we've already failed."

The gryphon riders overhead soon descended to the general, who rode upno a mighty stallion clad in highly ornate golden armor, just as he was.

"General," one said. "The enemy is quite numerous, and well supported. They have crossbow wielders and numerous mages."

"I see," the general replied. "Then we must stay vigilant. We will need to fight harder than I had forseen..."

Rattlebones flew towards the tower at an amazing speed, especially for an undead wyvern. The creature sliced through the air like a sword through flesh, its wings at its sides; it was basically a bone torpedo now.

Unfortunately, Cyris had finally reached the tower, looking up at the large structure, gazing in awe.

"For a legendary tower it looks pretty plain." she said, preparing to step inside.
