The old man and the swordsman held on tightly to Rattlebones, struggling to hold on...

A large metal door, adorned with ancient sigils, blocked immediate entrance to the tower. Whatever it said, or whatever story it may have told, was long lost to anyone still alive. The door had etchings of a regal man of imposing stature dead center, wielding the legendary blade, Soul Edge...

Cyris noticed the incoming skeletal wyvern. Quickly, she climbed up the wall of the tower in hopes of leaving their sight...

Icil looked at the tower. So this is it, huh, she though as she investigated the large ancient structure. She commanded Rattlebones to land, pointing towards the ground...

Kard chuckled. "For such a legendary place, it sure doesn't look pretty..."

Ivan snorted. "Well, when you've been abandoned for millenia, time isn't too kind to you..."

There were many windows for Cyris to enter to escape the line of sight. The interior, if she looked inside, was dark, but from the little light that entered through the windows, it was quite beautiful, with large murals coverign the entire structure's walls...

Cyris leaped through a window, rolling inside of the building and stopping in a crouch. She eyed the murals around her. Reminding her of a church, the elf let out a satisfied mhm, nodding at the pictures as she "read" them.

Rattlebones landed, letting the adventurers off of his back. He had a bad feeling that someone had been here before they had...

A long, spiralling staircase headed up to the top of the tower, and headed deep down into the catacombs of the tower. The murals told the rise and fall of an ancient hero king...

Kard dismounted first, helping Ivan down from the skeletal wyvern. The warrior looked around the area.

"I've got a bad feeling about this place..." the warrior growled.

"So do I," Ivan replied.

"Brace yourself friend" warned Septimus, as energy washed over his form, funnel-like wisps of pure, highly concentrated mana flowing from the Dragon into the Blood Omen as Septimus rose upwards, as a thick, immensely powerful lightning bolt tore down out of the sky ahead, slicing a white hot tear in the suffocating darkness around it for a split second, the bolt exploding into hundreds of smaller ones in the midst of the Draxon army, the deafening boom of thunder intermingled with what sounded like a roar, as A large, somewhat Serpentine Dragon dove out of the sky, arcing upwards and shooting past just below Septimus, the Stormweaver making use of his temporary freedom to give the armed forces some useful aid, thinning the Draxon ranks as below, the Valenhadian army marched into position in the canyon between the cliffs, numerous spiked barriers being carried by the soldiers, made of long, sturdy wooden spikes...

"As do I, now that you mention it..." Icil replied with a slight frown of discomfort. She looked up at the tower. This was going to be a long way up...

Cyris had summoned her spirit tiger (which was now named Spiritjaw), in case she were to be ambushed unexpectedly. She couldn't really find a decent staircase or a platform or something, so she would just rest here for a bit...

Desrium took in this energy quickly before it was intermingled with the latent power of the ley lines. In a burst of light his eyes turned blue and the spectral ripples of light appeared around his form, the sparks and bolts of magical energy shooting out within the field of mana. The Blood Omen's unending stare bore into blackened environment, attuning his senses to make up for his lack of visibility. Even the bright glare from his magically enhanced sight did little to pierce the stifling darkness, but his hearing and ability to taste the air compensated for it.

The defenders had been given the time they needed. Now they were filing either onto the cliffs themselves, or into the passes to fight on the front lines. Vul'nul were mixed in with the defenders at the front of the left pass, while goblin archers and the remaining magi made their way to the cliffs. The vikings of Vanguard took to the right pass. "Get into your positions! Begin the channeling!" Tzeentch called mentally to all the spellcasters under their control, as they gathered in circles in the center of the cliffs, away from the direct line of fire. Some of the mages did not participate in the channeling. These were the ones who had created the barricades, and now served as a communication system between the divided forces, as well as supporting their nearby allies with spells. Either lighting the way magically to give their allies a means to see, or using their destructive potential to lay waste to the enemy, these mages were present some distance behind the front lines of both the cliffs and the passes.

The enormous walls of rock had served their purpose. With synchronized movement, the mages broke the stone from the ground and sent it hurtling into the Draxonian army, pushing them back several hundred yards before the wall itself broke apart, causing cascades of rubble to fall onto the twisted pile of Draxon soldiers. Now, the way into the pass was clear, but the defending armies had already taken up positions at the barricades. Walls of warriors, some lizardmen, some goblin, some human, stood between the Draxonian army and the spellcasters. Spiked barricades placed by the Valenhadian forces enhanced the defense of the front lines as well...

The dirty roads were flowing with the red, red with the blood of Lycan's. Strewn forth in and around the street the battle was fought Lycan's and Forsaken going blow for blow. the small boy was a stranger in the face of war and did not comprehend nor did he want to understand why his brothers in bloodline were being killed in such large amounts! Screaming out in horror as he witnessed a home burst from the seams in an explosion of fire! from within the burning bodies of women and even children lay collapsed on the still blazing remains of the hut. Fear running through the boy he turned to run only to be stopped by one of the bloodsucking murderers, falling down to the ground the young boy back tracks on his hands and heals trying to escape the incarnate of death in front of him. The Forsaken had a grin on his face, a malevolent smile of discord and violence, it began slowly walking towards the boy opening its mouth to reveal its two enlarged fangs. However before it could end the young Lycan's life a pawed fist was slammed through its chest, turning the impaled vampire to face him, Gladius growling the massive werewolf tore the vampire in half! After disposing of the Forsaken Gladius shifted back into his noble human form his mouth covered in blood, his hands dripping blood.
"Are you alright my son?" Gladius asked the boy nodded. "Excellent now come with me your mother and I are taking you out of here its becoming to danger--" Gladius stuttered as a sword pierced its way through his exposed back and right through to shine out his chest. To the boy's horror his father was still very much alive gasping for air even though his lung was collapsed.
"Gladius you are a tricky one to find now aren't you, and an even harder one to kill. Your White Fangs are admirable warriors I'll give them that but even they could not hold their own against my army. Lets face it Lycan your race is no more, it is time you accept that with the Forsaken working as a coherent army their is nothing stopping us. Now before you die I will allow you the luxury of watching your son die before your eyes." Claudius said before bursting out into mad laughter dropping Gladius to the ground. Gladius jumped to attack Claudius but was soon apprehended by Claudius's personal guard. With a howl of protest Gladius fought to defend his son even though he was powerless to fight it! The boy backed up into the burnt remains of a hut trapped between the building and Claudius. Whimpering in terror the boy closed his eyes waiting for the killer blow when suddenly a snarl was heard. Snapping his eyes open the boy found himself in the arms of a powerful white werewolf rushing at inhuman speeds towards the surrounding forest as an early winter snow began to lazily fall from the sky. Looking back at the burning village the boy couldn't help but cry looking at his home in ruin.
"Father! Father! Father..." the boy screamed into the darkness as the forest blurred into nothingness...

Jerrin jumped awake his hand reaching for his sword, drawing it in little more than a second. Breathing heavily the Lycan was covered with a cold sweat against his head and exposed chest. Jerrin knew that the nightmares were getting worse and with them he knew he would find the answers he was looking for...

The assualt from Arashi struck a chord in the infantry, striking down roughly 20 men with its magical power, the high voltages eliciting horriftyign screams as the men collapsed in heaps. The rubble from the stone walls claimed another 10, though Formidonis seemd unfazed from the rubble that collapsed upon him, the drake simpyl emerging from the pile angrier than ever. The infantry soon rushed forward, shields raised and swords at the ready, the men no longer bothering to form "the wall". Claymore wielders and pikemen took the front, charging forward to meet those in the left pass. The cavalry charged in the right pass, Formidonis taking the front, the armor plated drake lettinh out a thundering roar before he barreled toward, sniffing his foes out and ready to crush any in his way...

Suddenly, fiery stones and a volley of flaming arrows rained down from the sky, the incendiary weapons aiming for the tops of the cliffs. Arrows pelted any unfortunate infantry caught in their blanketing assault, setting fire to any struck by them, as the flaming rocks smashed through both soldiers and structures alike...

Like angels of death, the Gryphon riders struck down upon their foes, many of the knights drawing their bows and firing blindly into the darkness before swooping down and snatching up stragglers with their muscular steeds...

Kard nodded and the three approached the door.

"Nice lookin' door," Kard said as he studied the beautiful peice of work.

"Indeed," Ivan replied. He then turned to Icil. "Do you think Rattlebones can force this door open? It's probabyl been sealed shut for millenia now..."

The first flurry of arrows and the first of the flaming rocks hit their mark, but the rest were deflected by the combined effort of the mages stationed on top of the cliffs. The arrows broke harmlessly against the shimmering barrier, while the rocks bounced off and fell into the passes below, crushing a few charging Draxonian soldiers. As the attacks were deflected, the barrier disappeared, the mages winded by the effort.

As Formidonis charged, a gargantuan figure emerged from the darkness in front of the beast, the massive outstretched hand of Radamand grasping the beast's snout, stopping it dead in its tracks within seconds. Raising his mace, the giant snapped the drake's two horns off with one incredible swing, before bringing the mace back against the side of its head in a backhand swing, knocking the creature to the side, out of the grasp of his other hand.

massive boulders rained from the sky over the Draxon army as long range trebuchets hurled their horrible cargo over the length of the passes, wiping out large swathes of archers and siege weapons as the combined force of the Valenhadian and Barari armies' ranged weaponry bombarded the opponents from afar. Andruil meanwhile stood with the Valenhadian and Barari warriors in the pass, standing amidst the other sword-wielding soldiers. Before them stood the Pikemen, large shields and long spears in position to impale any attacker and deflect any blow. before them was a wide, sturdy spiked barricade, lodged firmly against the pass's walls, thick spikes protruding outwards at dangerous angles, making any attempted attack hazardous. Meanwhile, fireballs and flaming arrows rained from the sky, obliterating incoming Gryphons as massive Dragons soared overhead, the large black beasts invisible in the darkness, as smaller, brown Dragons shot back and forth between jagged rocky spires and around waves of arrows as they intercepted those few Gryphons the larger ones missed...

Arashi meanwhile had moved back to a safe distance, landing in the midst of the Zuppo, Hukamili and Valenhadian mages, a safe distance from the battle, his eyes glowing pure white as the runes across his form exploded with energy, the Stormweaver beginning the process of channeling the ley energies, bolstering the other Mages' efforts, the Mercutio Council Mages assembled in a large circle nearby, as the very air seemed electrified with magical power. Not far from them, the Zuppolandian Elder Council was assembled, a dozen powerful Zuppolandian mages aiding the cause, a third circle of Hukkamili Mages also worked, the three groups assembled in a triangular pattern with Arashi at it's centre...

The Daaven rangers saw the numerous orange orbs as a faint glimmer in the sky as the first of the arrows made their descent. They quickly fell back and took cover with the siege engineers, who finished the basic fortifications for the two ballistae. They were akin to lean-to's, plated metal layered in sheets and propped up on wooden supports at the front end allowing the operators to work the anti air weapons with some protection. Their numbers were preserved in this way, besting yet another bit of adversity of the battle.

Desrium struck from Septimus' back, gathering magical power in his free hand and projecting it at the scattered Gryphon riders, the spiraling beams of color tearing through the dark, either striking one of the flying mounts and slicing through rider and beast alike; or missing and leaving the panicked animals as fodder for the other dragons.

Formidonis let out a thundering roar of pain and anger, the Drake quickly stumbling up onto his feet. With surprising quickness, the drake slammed his armor-plated tail into Radamand's chin, the metal-clad tool of destruction smashing the hapless giant's jaw with a sickening crunch. Formidonis turned as Radamand recovered, Formidonis turned himself around, still in obvious pain, as he lunged forward, arms raised, before he brought his tonnage down towards his prone opponent...

The draxonian infantry soon appeared before the valenhadian and Barari infantry, the large wall of steel armor and weaponry, and muscle soon rushing their foes with the intent to kill....

The knights charged past the battle between Formidonis and Radamand, lances lowered as they prepared for impact with the opposing infantry. Unfortunately, Nitsunobue charged in the right pass just behind Radamand, the horned titan soon intercepting some of the knights, the massive horned brute easily taking down no fewer than five on the knights with his seemingly unstoppable charge...

Fiery stones from the Draxon catapults soon replied to the valenhadian and Barari siege weaponry, smashing down multiple trebuchets and setting fire to the ruined structures, lighting up the darkness in their immediate area. The heavy stones also dealt heavy casualties to the infantry if they shots were short of the seige weapons, crushing both men and structure beneath their flaming tonnage. Many draxon archers we killed from the assault, and a few draxon seige engines were lost to the opposing heavy stones...

The gryphons were, for the most part, agile enough to avoid oncoming fire, but those unfortunate enough to be ambushed by the black dragons were taken down in short time. The gryphon riders clashed with the brown dragons, managing to overpower them through bestial endurance and human ingenuity. An intense, aerial confrontation ensued between the smaller brown dragons and the gryphon riders, while fiery stoens would ocasionally mange to hit a black dragon from sheer luck. At least one gryphon rider was hit by Desrium's assult, sending both rider and moutn spiralling down into the cliff, crashing with an audible CRUNCH, and falling into the pass below...

"I guess we could try that, but what if he breaks-" Icil started, only to be interrupted by a loud smash. Rattlebones had started headbutting the door already, seeming to like the idea of destruction. "-a horn..." the succubus finished dully, her wings spreading out from behind her back...

The rangers were back in their positions when Draxon was forcing its way into the pass. Knights and infantry were struck down from the darkness above as the skilled crossbow users picked out their targets in the choking blackness and unleashed their piercing payload. Many died in the pass, accumulating bodies of man and horse alike creating obstacles for the soldiers yet to come.

The Blood Omen shifted his attention to where flaming streaks flying over the battlefield originated. The catapults and trebuchets of the enemy had to be eliminated. "Get me closer, Septimus" Desrium said to his friend. "I want to break their machines"

Radamand hurled his mace at the drake's underside as it reared, the weapon breaking multiple ribs and forcing the breath out of the creature. The giant lunged at the stunned Formidonis, massive hands wrapped around the beast's jaws. Radamand slowly began overpowering his larger opponent, pushing the drake back down toward the ground as he spread its jaws wider and wider.

A haunting, echoing laugh spread across the battlefield, catching most of the participants unaware. The massive spires hundreds of yards away from the battle began to move, wrenching themselves from the ground, revealing themselves to be massive pointed legs. With each movement, the ground trembled, and the eyes moved closer through the darkness toward the battle. "This? This is your plan?" Eredar's malevolent voice rang out, before he laughed once more. "You intend to use the ley lines against me? How do you think the plague that befalls your kind works? The ley lines are a part of me. Your bodies will be as broken as your idiotic plan very soon."

Tzeentch's heart dropped. She stared off blankly, as Eredar cackled maniacally in the distance, unable to comprehend that her plan had already failed. How could she have been so blind?

It was then that the laughing stopped.

"What is this? YOU SEEK TO DEFY MY WILL?" the Traitor God roared, but not at the assembled forces. The immortal had stopped moving, its eyes turning a bright boiling red as it fought against something unseen.

"It's...it's working..." Tzeentch whispered under her breath in relief, before the importance of the moment hit her. "It's working!" she yelled behind her, hoping to raise the moral of the mages.

As the Draxon knights charged the Valenhadian forces, the pikes lowered level with the chests of the charging cavalry, impaling a large portion, the few lucky enough to get past that skewering themselves on the large spiked barricades, the nigh impenetrable barrier holding off the assault easily...

Meanwhile, as the flaming boulders plummeted towards the artillery and surrounding units, massive white flashes formed in their paths, Mercutio Mages bringing up barriers that deflected the shots, redirecting their momentum so that they shot far past their targets, smashing against blank plains behind the descent at the ends of the passes, the flaming boulders tumbling harmlessly into the plains below. A number of catapults and trebuchets were damaged from the onslaught, but their numbers were minute compared to the vast number of intact siege weapons currently laying waste to the army, numerous trebuchets exchanging their typical stone ammunition for large nets filled with burning oil barrels, which kept their shape until impact, exploding in massive waves of oil that washed over groups of soldiers, though the siege weapons sustained the most damage, being the intended target, numerous siege weapons completely engulfed in flames...

The assembled mages focused, never daring to let their concentration slip, even to rejoice at their gradual success. Arashi stood in their midst, his own aura bolstering the mages around him...

Septimus flew forward into the depths of the darkness, following the source of the flaming boulders, flipping in mid air as he evaded one before diving, flames pooling in his jaws as he closed in on a line of siege weapons, the flames burning white and blue in his mouth as he closed in, unleashing several powerful fireballs in rapid succession, the orbs lancing through the air like bolts of pure light, colliding with several catapults violently, flash-frying the ropes keeping the weapons triggered and charring the gears and arming mechanisms, causing several of them to explode into chunks of smoldering splinters and ash, if not simply dissolving completely, occasionally causing the catapult to fire and swing its arm into the ground, the subsequent explosion of wood killing everything in its immediate range and damaging surrounding siege engines...

The brown Dragons clashed violently with the Gryphons, the two beasts' respective riders fighting violently, the archers and sword-wielders on Dragonback making short work of their Draxonian counterparts, as the Dragons burned the feathers off the Gryphons' wings before kicking them off, leaving them to plummet to their fiery deaths below...

Suddenly, sharp claws raked across Radamand's gut, blood spilling forth as the armor plated beast's main weapons sliced into his foe's gut, Formidonis soon kicking the giant in the chest to force his foe away from him, the drake's tail thrashing about like a worm...

Nitsunobue began cleaning up any knights that were beginning to fall back from their suicidal charge, using his masive tail and uppercuts from his head to kill both rider and mount in one fluid motion...

The Draxon infantry fared far better, able to use their shields to protect themsleves from arrows and blades more effectively than the mounted knights. The Draxons soon began to hack their way through the spiny barrier, using blades and axes to cleave into the sturdy wall to get at their opponents...

As soon as Septimus' presence was made known, a volley of flaming arrows began pelting his hide, some managing to strike his wing membranes as well. Some even actually recognized Septimus from his visit a week ago to Freyr-Lunge, calling out, "Traitor to the Dragon God! Slay him and the demon that rests upon his back!"

While the gryphons, even in their heavy armor, were no match for the dragons, the knights upon their backs put up an equal battle for the Valenhadian riders. Many dragons and their riders, and gryphons and their riders, were kileld form the intense aerial violence high above the pass, but Draxon couldn't afford the amount of casualties they were suffering. With only 20,000 troops at the start, and now inching mroe towards the 17,000 range, Draxon was outmanned on all fronts. Even with their mighty effort, they couldn't hold for long...
