Xanthe gave a long stretch and rose to his feet, flexing cramped muscles. His stomach had just reminded him that he'd gone hungry to feed his mate; and though the corpse of the Giga was nearby, he would leave that to be picked over by his pack and scavengers. He needed to stretch his legs in a proper hunt. The bites the Giga had landed in their fight were painful, but hadn't done much damage where they were placed. His shoulder had been wrenched in its attempt to break his arm, and his hip had several shallow graze marks where the other predator's teeth had broken the skin, hit bone and glanced off, but he had still been able to fight - so he would still be able to hunt. The alpha male gave his mate a nuzzle and murmured, "Keep an eye on things. I'll be back shortly." Savarna watched him go, before turning back to keep an eye on the pack.
Xanthe placed each massive foot confidently, completely at home in the territory he knew so well. His pack was safe for now, and the Spinosaurs were a threat to deal with another day, when their leader became too assured of himself and slipped. For now, food was priority, and there was a good chance that prey could become scarce with two large packs in close proximity. The thought of going to see if there was anything left of the sauropod briefly crossed Xanthe's mind, but was pushed aside after a moment's consideration. There likely wouldn't be anything worth eating on that carcass at this point.
The black and gray alpha paused at the edge of the trees and cocked his head to consider his options. He didn't want to tackle anything too big, as the pack had a huge corpse to feed off of at their leisure...but...a young Corythosaur looked promising. It wasn't a hatchling, but nor was it quite fully grown yet. perfect. Xanthe blinked slowly, golden eyes ever watchful as his target came closer. Just as he was preparing to ambush his chosen prey, a familiar scent reached him. Raptors were rushing forward on silent feet, quickly closing the gap between themselves and...the same young animal.
There were five of them. As he watched, the black one in the lead gave a massive leap and drove her claws deep into the flank of the Corythosaurus. Its screamed alarm call caused the rest of the herd to scatter. The scent of blood reached him and made his mouth water, but Xanthe forced himself to be patient. He'd forced raptors off kills before. They'd try to make a stand but ultimately have to flee - it was just a matter of there being a kill first. He waited as the pack attacked again and again, their prey having been abandoned to its fate by panicked adults, who were milling in the distance, letting out wary noises.
A final gurgle draw Xanthe's attention as one of the raptors scored a decisive blow. As the Corythosaurus fell and drew its last breath, and the raptors started to settle in to eat, the alpha made his move. Smoothly, unhurriedly, he strode out of the cover of the trees and gave a low snarl to announce himself. As the raptors looked up and froze, he could practically see their thought process - they were tired and hungry, but uninjured, and he was many times their size. There would be other kills. One by one they slunk off cautiously, not taking their eyes off of him. To make sure they got the message, he ran forward a few steps and snapped at the tail of the last of them, which sent them all scattering. His prize secured, Xanthe gave a satisfied growl and planted one foot on the carcass, bending down to tear into the still-warm body
