As much as the hatchling seemed to be enjoying her play-fight session, it was impossible to tell what was going through her young mind. She wouldn't be able to speak for a while yet, and who knew how much, or how little she understood of body language, or tone of voice. Her playful scuffle with the compy tail was only the first that had happened since she joined her big-clawed guardian. The rest of the time, the hatchling remained silent, amber gaze almost always keeping track of the one and only being now capable of providing safety. And when the hatchling wasn't watching the raptor, she was stuck to him like a gecko, usually comfortably curled up somewhere near his elbow. It seemed that was her preferred sleeping arrangement.
But did she miss her family? Did she even remember enough of them to feel their loss? Did she realize that they, the Liliensternus were her kind, not the Velociraptor she was with now? The tiny Lili rolled onto her side, kicking out in pursuit of the severed end of the tail, giving a muffled chirp through the tail tip, still clutched in her mouth, as her sharp new hind claws finally met their mark, opening a series of tiny gashes in the base of the tail, cutting the last few inches of it into tatters after several lively kicks. At that, she opened her mouth for a final happy chirp, letting go of the piece of compy and rolling into a crouch. Chirp! chirp chirp! the hatchling insisted, looking excitedly at Xypher as if proud of her accomplishment.
