Stormtail poked his head out of his den. "Ah, Spottednose, good to see you're awake," the medicine cat meowed. "How are you feeling?"

Stormtail nodded. "It's a good idea to stay off your leg for a few days," he meowed. "Oh...and Streamflower has good news." He backed away to let the young couple rejoce in peace.

Streamflower nuzzled Spottednose. "Yes...get some rest, love, Shadowstar wanted me to help her with something." She licked her mate's cheek and stood, padding out of the den towards where Shadowstar was busily scraping snow out of the entrance to the warrior's den. "Ah, Streamflower, there you are," the ThunderClan leader meowed. "Help me out, will you? The last thing we need is for the dens to be blocked." Streamflower nodded and began scraping at the snow with her paws beside Shadowstar.

Spottednose, unfortunately, couldn't sleep. He was too focused on the dogs. Why had they attacked him? Who was their "boss?" And why were they even anywhere nearby? He milled these thoughts around in his head as he waited for Streamflower to come back.

As soon as all the den entrances had been cleared, Streamflower trotted back to the medicine cat's den to see if Spottednose was still awake. She crouched beside him and mewed, "What's on your mind?"

Streamflower sighed. "You and the rest of the Clan..." she murmured. "The dogs will have to be eliminated before leaf-bare ends," a new voice cut in. Streamflower turned to see Shadowstar. "We cannot risk them taking our prey," the gray and black she-cat went on.

Spottednose meowed, "But they haven't been seen for a long time. It could be someone else..." He resisted the urge to say "Lightfrost," who was the most suspicious to him, though that was probably because the deputy had been extremely nasty to him and Streamflower.
