Lightstorm watched, deciding Heatherpelt would tell him what this was about later. He approached Swift, meowing, "Now this is a pleasant surprise, Swift. I thought you were dead, or long gone." Swift turned, remembering the white tom as an old friend. "Neither dead nor cowardly enough to give up my only home so easily," he meowed.

[The Kingpin]

Wraith nodded. "Thank you, Lightstorm" he meowed, before looking at the two former Medicine Cats. "I've already told Heatherpelt here about how Snowstar and I have been considering ways to make use of your skills" he started. "We don't know how long the peace we have here will last, so we need to make use of it" he explained. "Shadelight's been told, and she has agreed. seeing as Cloudhaze can handle the duty of Medicine Cat alone, Shadelight's been relieved of her official duties as such as well. that leaves us with three former Medicine Cats whose full potential is not being shown" he growled. "You both noticed Demontalon's difficulties when she arrived here, am i right?" he inquired as he looked between the two...


Nightclaw shrugged and got up, heading out of the den and waiting outside for Hawkclaw and Demontalon...

Springtail nodded, mewing somewhat matter-of-factly, "A kitten could have noticed that limp she had."

Heatherpelt nodded. "Shoulder wound," she meowed, cocking her head.

Demontalon followed with the faintest hint of a limp, Hawkclaw at her shoulder. "To answer your question, no, I don't think Mudswirl's punishment was harsh," she meowed. "As I said, she needs to learn. This is one of the ways she will."

Wraith nodded. "Well, that is the state she's in even after applying some very basic medicinal techniques she learned from Shadelight during her Apprenticehood" he growled. "Had it not been for that, she'd likely have either been dead or dying when i found her. it got me thinking. As much as we would like to believe that it'd be impossible for any of the clan to be seperated again, we CAN'T just leave it to faith" he added, bringing one large black paw down to the ground as if to emphasise the point. "we need to be prepared in case it does. I think by now you both should have a rough idea of where i'm going with this?" he asked, looking at the two...


Nightclaw sighed, shrugging. "I suppose you're right.....that doesn't mean it's a pleasant way to learn" he growled...

Springtail cocked her head again. "I have a hunch, but I'd like to have a bit of confirmation before I say anything..." she mewed.

Demontalon chuckled somewhat darkly. "The memory will help make the lesson stick," she meowed.

Heatherpelt's eyes widened. This conversation was beginning to sound like the one she'd just had with Nightclaw, Hawkclaw, and Lightstorm. She wasn't sure she dared to so much as begin to hope this was going in the same direction.

[The Kingpin]

"It's been decided, provided you agree, that you two, along with Shadelight, will act as mentors for the entire Clan. from Apprentice to Elder, and even Snowstar and I. Perhaps even the older kits just before reaching Apprenticehood. that way, with some luck, all the cats in the Clan will know at least some medical knowledge, and therefore be able to treat minor injuries themselves, or at least figure out what may be wrong" he growled, eying the two...


Nightclaw sighed. "When i was an apprentice my lessons were made to stick by enjoying the lesson....you know how Shadowsoul teaches and mentors. you were an apprentice of his once" he meowed...

Springtail furrowed her brow, thinking hard. She didn't really like the idea of breaking away from tradition. Then again, by this point, that was hardly a concern for their survival. After a short pause, she finally nodded. "It could be a nice, not to mention useful, change of pace."

[Hopeflower]

"Has he told you everything about me?" Demontalon asked, a little amused. "Mudswirl inherited her father's hard head, I think," she went on, remembering with some sorrow that Hawksight had died not long after her kits became warriors. Hawkclaw is very like her mother, in every way, she thought, falling silent. I hope she doesn't lose that.

Heatherpelt felt a little dazed. Teach the whole Clan? This was more than she'd expected. A lot of these cats were older than she was - wouldn't they resent being taught? She voiced the thought uncertainly.

Thunderheart lifted his head when Demontalon emerged from the Medicine den, having left to let the black she-cat rest. She seemed to be following Hawkclaw and Nightclaw...the striped tom prayed that Demontalon would remember his advice. He really didn't like the idea of her being in danger...again...

Silverstripe stopped suddenly, sliding a few feet, halting only a foot from the water's edge. The silver tabby sighed in relief, not wanting to have yet another humiliating moment to add to the list...

[The Kingpin]

"Hardly" growled Wraith in response to Heatherpelt's conscerns. "Only a fool would put pride in the way, and i'll make sure any of that is swiftly flattened. Any cat who doesn't know what you know about it, is, in every way but title, an apprentice in comparison. but don't worry. if it makes you feel better, the older ones will be given to Springtail to mentor, and the younger ones split between you and Shadelight. you wouldn't mind that, would you Springtail?" he inquired...



"Well...not everything. just that you were his last apprentice...before me, that is" meowed Nightclaw. he stifled a snicker at the comment on Snowstar's hard head, before meowing "And you know Snowstar well enough to be able to comment on that?"...

Springtail smiled. "Don't worry, Wraith. I can handle any of the little upstarts that don't want to learn."

[Shade]

Stormclaw walked out of the warriors' den and inspected the fresh kill pile. It was getting tall, but it could be stocked up more. And he started toward the woods.

[Hopeflower]

Demontalon smiled somewhat sadly. "Put it this way - I was an apprentice when he was still a warrior. He had his stubborn moments."

Flamesight grinned. "Well done. You didn't fall on your face or end up in the water," she meowed. "A first." She snickered.

Heatherpelt nodded, still a bit uneasy with the idea. She hadn't been a full medicine cat long enough to consider wanting an apprentice of her own. But then again, if she got stuck she could always ask one of the others for advice.

Wraith nodded with a smile. "So i take it both of you are willing to take on this duty?" he growled...


Nightclaw chuckled. after a few moments, he cocked his head and meowed "What about your parents? i never got the chance to see or hear of them"...

[Hopeflower]

"My father is Thunderheart," Demontalon meowed. "And surely you've seen his face so many times by now you're heartily sick of it." She grinned at the orange and white tom as if saying no offense. "And my mother...is Auburnpelt," she went on. "Daughter of Tigerclaw, and extraordinary warrior. Gentle, kind, and warm-hearted." She frowned. "I haven't seen her around...so I assume she's still missing...or..." She shook her head, not wanting to think the worst.

"I'll give it a shot," Heatherpelt murmured.

[The Kingpin]

Nightclaw lowered his head. "Well, if she's as good as you say, chances are she's just missing. we'll find her in time. who knows, maybe in better condition than you were" he growled, adding the end of with with a light smirk...


Wraith glanced at Springtail, having got his answer from her earlier. "Well then, i think it's time to let the Clan know" he growled, getting to his paws and turning towards the Leader's Den. a loud yowl came forth from the tom as he neared it. "Let all cats old enough to hunt their own prey meet at the Leader's Den for a Clan meeting". he sat in front of the Leader's den, tail curling around his paws once more as he glanced around at the clan cats...

[Hopeflower]

"I hope you're right," Demontalon meowed, turning her head to the source of the call.

Robinflight leaped from his usual branch to the earth below, joined shortly by Poppytail, Vixentail and Emberspots. Swift settled beside Lightstorm, recalling the days when Fireflower would make announcements to the Clan from the Highledge, as leader.

Shadelight trotted out of the medicine den and sat a little ways from Wraith. Sunclaw heard her father's call and joined the rest of the clan, so did Stormheart after catching a crow just outside of the camp.
