"Time passes. Wounds heal," Hawksight's voice whispered sorrowfully. Hawkclaw started shaking. No they don't, she thought, almost savagely. It's been nine moons and it hurts more than it did back then. This kind of wound doesn't just go away. "Some wounds become infected before they get better," her mother breathed. "You'll never forget me...but the pain will fade with enough time." She caught a trace of Hawksight's familiar scent. "I love you, Hawkclaw. Be strong... and remember that 'goodbye' doesn't have to be for forever." Fur brushed Hawkclaw's - for just a second, Hawksight was barely visible, her flank pressed to her daughter's. Then she was gone, the voice was gone, the scent snatched by a gentle breeze.
