Nightclaw gave Demontalon a serious look. "My father rose to Clan Leader around then. I'd like to know what it was like back then....and how it compared to the New Clans" he meowed...

The she-cat's lip quirked, satisfied with the answer. "Good answer," she mewed, stretching out a bit more. "Where to start....I guess by saying the valley was a beautiful place to live...we'd probably still be there, if it wasn't for those crowfood-eaters." Her eyes darkened. "At first, we had no idea they were there. No idea how devastating their attacks could be, if they were given time to plan." Her tail-tip flicked. "We thought we had a place where we were safe...where the Clans could settle, after being driven from the lake." Demontalon dug her claws into the earth as the memories came in a flood. Her glittering eyes narrowed fractionally. "We were wrong."

"So what happened? what led up to this whole Rat disaster?" mewed Nightclaw curiously...

"I don't know how it was for the other Clans, but for ThunderClan, it started with a bold rat stealing from our fresh-kill pile," Demontalon meowed. "I remember Smokestorm saying they were only really a problem when their numbers grow too large to be controlled through fear of cats. Not long after that, we found out there were rat dens all around our camp." A shudder rippled down her spine. "And then Hawkclaw, still Hawkpaw then, found three rats in the apprentice's den. They were even bolder than the one who stole a bite of our fresh-kill; biting at cats who got too close, even chasing the apprentices out of the den. When we attacked, they scattered and vanished...and some of us were foolish enough to hope that was the end of it. We started planning to come back here around then. A meeting was called for leaders, deputies, and medicine cats. But before Fireflower and the others could leave, a dozen or so of the rats came to our camp. Among them was one who spoke to us." Her claws flexed instinctively at the memory.

Nightclaw cocked his head at the details. "A rat that could speak? are you sure you're not making this up?". "Oh, It spoke. trust me on that one" growled an older voice, the clan Leader approaching, catching a few brief details of the story as he neared. "I should know....I spoke to it myself" he added. Nightclaw stared wide eyed at the two cats. what else could speak to cats? badgers? foxes? birds? a strangely unsettling thought...

"It gave us an ultimatum," Demontalon meowed, nodding to her former mentor. "We had three moons to leave, or the rats would kill us all. I went for a walk alone to think things over, not wanting to leave the place I'd known all my life, and that's when the rats trapped me. One of them distracted me while the others came in from behind. They were all trying to get to me, climbing on each other as the ones who got there first sunk their teeth and claws into me. If I hadn't still been relatively close to camp, I doubt I'd be here talking to you. Smokestorm, Bloodspill and Darkspot found me and brought me to the medicine cats. And after that, Fireflower, Snowclaw, Springtail, Heatherpelt and Lightstorm left for the meeting place." She paused, not knowing exactly what had happened then - only that they had been ambushed and Fireflower had lost a life.

Nightclaw cocked his head. "What happened next?" he meowed. "You want to tell him what you were told about it, Demontalon? or should i tell you?" growled Wraith as he sat...

"I think it'd be best if you told us," Demontalon meowed, pricking her ears. "I don't think I ever got the full story of what happened."

Wraith chuckled. "Alright. we had organised to meet to discuss our plan of action. we being the leaders of the Clans. Shadelight, Rosefrost, Robinflight and I were Shadowclan's presence there. Leopardstar, Grasshide i think, and perhaps one or two others were there as Windclan's presence. and Riverclan was represented by Mistystar and i think a couple of others whose names have unfortunately eluded me. Shadelight was carrying you and your siblings at the time, Nightclaw, so i suppose in a way, you were present then" explained the tom, Nightclaw smirking at the last bit. "It was almost immediately settled that we were moving. it's probably the fastest i've ever seen the Leaders agree on anything. it pleased me despite the circumstances, because it meant i was perhaps just one small step closer to uniting the Clans to keep them safe from such dangers. But now i'm rambling off topic. Anyway, so the Leaders almost immediately agreed we needed to leave. but the question was when. and would the Rats' leader hold true to their word? would they give us a half before we had to leave? That option was discarded quickly. there were many expectant queens at the time and we had to move before the kits were born to make the journey easier and safer. our meeting was never truly finished. just as we were discussing plans on where to meet and how to go about the move, the rats attacked, in force. dozens upon dozens of them. they seemed endless at the time. we managed to hold them off for a while, but we needed support. reinforcements were called from Thunderclan and Shadowclan, and together we managed to force them back. but not before Fireflower, or, Firestar as she was at the time, lost a life" he growled. Nightclaw at this point, was staring, wide eyed...

"Wow," Demontalon mewed after a short silence. "So...that's why you relocated to Fireflower's den. You thought the rats might regroup and attack again..." She gave her chest fur a swift lick. I guess it's even more true than I thought...you can never trust a rat...

"We relocated for the meeting, yes. we finished it there.after that was overwith, we headed back to our camps to prepare the clans. the next day we were moving. that's about all there is to the story. i hope those rats eventually starved themselves to death, to be honest. they caused alot of damage" growled Wraith...

"Im thinking they did" Fogcloud mewed as he rolled over, enjoying his opportunity to laze around with his old friends. "Not that much dung to go around" He added when he was on his back, waving his paws at Demontalon.

Demontalon leaned back slightly to avoid being swatted in the nose. Even as she did so, she aimed a poke at the gray tom's flank. "You never know," she mewed. "Maybe they started eating each other after the dung ran out."

"Theres a difference between rats and dung?!" Fogcloud mewed, feining disbelief. "Save the fur, legs and tail, rats and dung are practically the same thing!" He moved a hind paw forward, prodding Demontalon's chest playfully.

Wraith chuckled lowly at the two cats' antics. "Still the playful kits you always were, i see" he growled as he stood...

"Everyone has the right to an inner kit," Demontalon meowed, glancing up at Wraith with an amused expression. "I bet even you still have one somewhere..." She poked Fogcloud's stomach gently in retaliation, purring, "You have a point there."

Fogcloud put his forepaws down on Demontalon's as she poked him, curling his body up so that he could touch noses with the black shecat. "Stale mate" He growled as he looked into her eyes.

The dark she-cat let out a purr, returning the touch as she held his gaze. "Fine. I guess it is a draw, you crazy furball."

Wraith chuckled. "True....but i don't flop down and start poking everything around me" he growled. just then Nightclaw fell onto his side and began poking Demontalon...

Fogcloud let go of Demontalon's paw and then broke off from her, laying on his back before rolling over. His feelings twisted. He couldnt go back to how things were before with Demontalon, but here they were going on like nothing's changed between them. Was it too soon? He shook his head, uncertain of his feelings for the shecat. He missed her, yes...but was it still love? "Talk to you later, Demontalon" He mewed before moving off to the warrior's den. He needed to do some more thinking...
