"I see. What about the intelligent ones. what've you come across?" he asked curiously...

'That they can think, and plan. They also have longer memories than the less intelligent creatures.' He was picking up the same presence as before and strengthened his shields a bit.

"Interesting" said Andruil, considering how to word the next question. after a few moments, he said "What kind of intelligent creatures have you come across....aside from Aviva?"...

'They were mainly medium-to-large carnivores,' Arsenic said. 'The ones who hunt in groups. There were some herbivores that showed the same intelligence though; they ran on more than instinct, even knew how to defend themselves against the ones who hunted them. Beyond just running away.' He paused. 'Sometimes it's almost as if I'm listening to a carefully planned dance where sometimes everything goes smoothly, and sometimes it doesn't.'

"You mean unicorns?" he suggested when hearing the description of the herbivore's intelligence...

"Foxes, the occasional wolf pack, a big cat or two," Vix said, ticking them off on her fingers. "There are the forest trolls, of course, but I don't know if they qualify as 'intelligent'." She shot a glance at Arsenic, who shook his head. 'They're not very bright, no.' "And as well as the unicorns, we get herds of wild horses coming through now and then. Quite a remarkable sight, to see them running across the big field."

"Beautiful animals, they are" said Andruil as he patted Furax on the neck, the stallion giving a happy nicker in response. "I found Furax here in the wild a year ago. he was fighting off a pack of wolves that were chasing him and his herd. He was badly injured by the end of it, but the pack had lost at least half a dozen wolves to him. i saw him cave one's chest in as it leapt at him. made me cringe to see it. I took him in and took care of him. had him looked at and treated as best i could. then let him go. he went off for a week and a bit, then returned. and he's been with me ever since. I can only guess he found his family and let them know he was ok"...

'Impressive,' Arsenic said. 'Few bonds like that between man and man's best friend. Dragon, horse, or dog,' he added with a grin.

"and it's a bond I cherish" said Andruil with a smile, Furax snorting happily in response. The treeline drew closer to them up ahead, and Andruil sighed as the smell of pine reached his nose. though he wouldn't say it out loud to his companions, the forest was his home. a place he loved and felt most at home at. but with noon having just passed, thoughts of the evening came to mind would he tell them? or would he save it till they trusted him more? deciding to be the first to ask, he gave a sideways glance over his shoulder at Vix. "Vix. Last night, when we were fighting off Zazikel....Do you remember anything of what happened to you?" he inquired...

Arsenic shot a deep violet look at Andruil, then turned to Vix. With his awareness heightened, he could pick up the confusion that spiked around her. She answered slowly, "I...remember the damage that demon did to the inn...I remember the shock...the anger....after that it...it's all a blur, until Zazikel left and I...woke up, I guess."

Desrium turned the last page of the legends section of the book, dumbfounded by what he saw. Part of the page had been torn out of the book, and most of the words unintelligable due to smudged ink. At the top of the page written in a grand script that looked like a picture rather than written words was the title "A Map Of Zup-". The title ended abruptly at the tear, but Desrium could only assume it would have read "A Map Of Zuppoland". What remained on the page was an illustration detailing a territory of various terrain and settlements. The legend key and scale would have been on the torn off peice of parchment, along with the rest of the map, leaving Desrium with a partial idea of the place. The pages after were in also bad shape. He closed the book and put it on the table beside the stuffed chair before leaning back, wondering why the rest of the pages were in such bad condition. Maybe he'd ask Syria about it later. For now, he looked out of the window. The rain had eased off slightly and the sky was a lighter shade of grey, with bright spots where the sun was shining through the cloud cover. He went on like this for a while, listening to the crackling fire a few feet away.

"Hm" responded Andruil simply. "I suppose it's a bit of a blur to us all....so much happened in so little time" he added thoughtfully. she didn't remember. but was it really the same condition he himself suffered? or was this something else?

'Story of our lives,' Arsenic said, and though it came out jokingly, there was a core of truth to the statement.

Andruil chuckled. "Hey, either of you ever seen a possessed frog before?" he asked with a smirk...

"A possessed...frog?" Vix asked, arching a brow. 'I've had a frog THROWN at me by a desperate target,' Arsenic said, shaking his head at the memory. 'Surprised me so much I was too slow to react. Smacked right into my chest.' "Yes, and that was fun to clean," Vix said, rolling her eyes. "Peeling frog entrails off of your shirt isn't exactly my idea of a lazy afternoon." 'It wasn't MY fault!' "Of course it wasn't." The young woman smirked.

Andruil chuckled at the story. "I feel sorry for that frog. a living projectile. Didn't his mother ever tell him that frogs are not weapons?" he said with a smirk...

'As I said. he was desperate. I'd backed him into a corner and the frog was just there. I guess he thought if he could startle me enough he could slip away.' Arsenic chuckled. "Leaving me to clean up the mess," Vix muttered, reaching out to cuff his head with her hand. It was clear she was suppressing laughter, though.
