Personally I don't know whether to believe this,I mean carno was certainly no slowpoke but I can't see it ever getting the title of fastest dinosaur ever

The Kingpin wrote:no dinosaur was as fast as Compsognathus. biomechanics states that the smaller the animal, the faster it's potential top speed. Compy had both the body build, and the size, to outstrip the Carnotaurus. No, the Lost World game is not valid proof against that.

Were that the case, then house cats would be outspeeding cheetahs, & the Tiger Beetle would be the fastest animal alive. (Granted, it is scaled up, but...) I think Compy wouldn't be any faster than your average chicken, while Carnotaurus, according to studies done by paleontologists, could have achieved speeds of up to 40 MPH...

For its PROPORTIONS, comspognathus could outrun a Carnotaurus. On a Carnotaurus' proportions, it was the fastest. So I guess it depends on what you view as fast: on its proportions, or in speed in general.

Anyone else glad it's almost thanksgiving?!

No, G4E... KP clearly stated that, with it's SIZE, Compy could outrun the Carnotaurus. I calll bull on that. Even proportionally sized, Carno was faster, thanks to that gigantic muscle in it's tail.

I'm not CS. :(

And how do you know it'd be faster? Compy is thinner, so if they were on the same proportions, it'd be faster overall. If something is muscular, it is generally QUICKER (fast for short distances or periods of time), but not FAST (has great endurance to run, can outpace similarly sized things). And it certainly wasn't AGILE (can avoid things with relative ease).

hence me stating BODYBUILD. a beetle's bodybuild and leg configuration doesn't allow it to move as fast as a similar sized animal with a bird or lizard's bodybuild would, for example.

My knowledge on the topic is admittedly minimal. However, the facts I'm stating are based on a biomechanics experiment done recently [a couple of months ago or so]. They had a number of animals, a Raptor, Compy, human and Rex included. out of them, the Compy was fastest, followed by the Raptor, followed by the human, followed by the Rex. and their analysis stated that on those grounds it appeared a Dinosaur's mass and size inversely effected their speed, in spite of variables such as stride length [this is why Rex's definitive top speed is unknown. we haven't got footprints showing it's typical stride length, and thus we can't judge it's top speed accurately]. how this discovery factors into the equation is up to the specialists to decide. Personally, I think this info will need to be applied to a new biomechanics study for speed across the various Dinosaurs species. until then the lines are a tad too blurred to judge.

@KP: Of course, the compie's gonna be the fastest out of the 4. As I said earlier, raptors are among the WORST runners of all dinosaurs (Compare a Utahraptor's leg to an Allosaurus, and you'll se that the former is twice as thick proportionally than the latter. Agile? Yes. Fast? NO.), your average human goes around 20-25 MHP, same goes for the Rex (Atleast, I myself think that a Rex of Crusher's size would have a top speed of 25 MHP, while juveniles like Blackside would be able to go up to 35MHP, though she herself would be abit slower, like 30 MHP.). I imagine the compy, going by this little study, to be around 25-35 MHP, which still comes short to the Carnotaur's 40 MHP... Litarally, Carnotaurus was the cheetah of the Mesozoic World...

@ Gira: Wait wait wait.... where the HELL did you come up with 20 MHP for a human?! A human can only go about 10 at a DEAD SPRINT. If that's true, we wouldn't need ******* bikes, we'd just run everywhere.

Actually the fastest running speed ever achieved by a person was around 27 MHP. So a number between 20-25 is mor ereasonable for a fit runner...

Anyone up for some sparring? (The place has been dead for months... )
