The dwarf glanced up, more than a little bit surprised, though he tried not to show it. "As a matt'r of fact I am sir." He continued to lead Myrn back toward the gryphon stables, several pairs of hawk-like eyes glancing at the quietly obedient creature from the stalls and paddock. "Would you be int'rested in takin' a closer look at the rest o the flock? Ah've got some good strong and well-be'aved creatures suitable for many uses," the Gryphonner said, shooting a quick sidelong glance at the throublesome gryphon as he said 'well-behaved'...

"Calm yourself, friend. All in due time. For now, Tell me what happened here" said Tacitus calmly as he reached a hand down to the man to help him to his feet...

"Oh please, lead the way" said Andruil with a smile as he eyed the Dwarf, then the Gryphon. His only hope was that this particular Gryphon was strong. Granted that, she'd be ideal. Though that didn't mean she'd be the only one he took...

"It...it happened a few nights ago y'see. Water was too rough for the round of night fishin' me and my friend Youltick had been plannin' so we decided to just pull up chairs on the beach there and just talk. Then this...red eyed shamble-thing just waltzes past, goes into the village and causes an uproar in the pub! Damn near the entire village ran it out but since then people 'ave been gettin' sick, but there be no reason for plague in these parts!" explained the man before he brought himself to stand again, much calmer now than he was just seconds prior.

The dwarf gave a nod and a small tug on the rope to keep the gryphon moving in the right direction, (she had spotted a cat a short way down the road and had paused momentarily.) As they neared the gryphon stable, the peregrine mix began pacing back and forth behind the fence and the big Harpy Eagle hippogriff hung his slate gray, feather-crested head over the topmost wooden slat and gazed interestedly out at them through brown eyes that matched his equine coat. "That there hippogriff is Thalion. He's got a good temp'rment. Not too eas'ly frightened, plus e's got haulin' strength to boot. That one itchen' t'get out beside 'im is Ereblenn, one o' my fastest flyers, besides Myrn 'ere. E's a bit young yet, but well trained an' obed'ent." The Gryphonner turned and stepped into the stable itself, coming to a stop at the front of two rows of stalls and tying the raven gryph to the nearest wooden post. Next to him, the red-brown head of a second hippogriff appeared at the door of an enclosed stall, and in the one across from it, an interestingly colored kestrel-leopard gryph ripped at what was left of a dead rabbit hanging from the wall. The dwarf reached out to scratch the hippogriff's rusty head feathers and said with a slight smile, "An' this'n's Karak, Thalion's young'r half sister. Bein' part horse, she's a strong one with plenty o' stamina." Finally, he gestured toward the opposite stall. "Sulrana. She's the small one o' the bunch, but she's got speed and agility on 'er side." All the while, in the time since she'd been tied up, Myrn never stopped pulling at her rope, trying in vain to reach a pair of rabbits strung up on the wall. As soon as the dwarf began to look her way, however, she stopped and turned to eye him and Andruil innocently...

"To Daaven then?" Jiier asked, noticing that their original destination for the trip was one of the next stops on their route along Aster's coast.

"Be sure to take a bite or two for your journey back," the bearded man called as he walked out of the Hall, heading toward the harbor.

Meanwhile, a black mist shot across the sky at high speeds, rocketing toward the city of Freyr-Lunge...

"Ugh, and I thought I talked too much!" Discord said, purposely raising his voice so Smaug heard him. He knew that if there's one thing dragons hate, it's a bruise to their ego...

Sure enough, Smaug arched his head upward, eyes narrowing in cold malice, and took off into the air, right for Discord. At that moment, Dione and Trajan both shouted, "FIRE!", and with the signal given, the archers and crossbowers readied their weapons and fired them upon the dragon, whole the dragon riders flew from their perches and assaulted Smaug with their fiery breath...

"Daaven it is" Desrium said, rolling the map up and retying it. He slipped it back into the robe's sleeve and looked to the dining tables, seeing the spread laid out across them. If he hadn't been with Jiier, he would have been starving by now, long descended into his primal state. The dragon's magical presence and the latent mana present in their surroundings were enough to sate him across the long trip however, meaning he had no inclination to eat; though he trusted that the meals were delicious. "Are you hungry?" the Blood Omen asked, unsure of whether or not Jiier could continue flying without nourishment.

Vix gave the kitten she'd picked up a scratch behind the ears, smiling as it purred. The tiny thing had shown itself to be even-tempered and cuddly, even with its playful streak. It was nearly all black - with the exception of a white forepaw, and a white-tipped tail. Its eyes were a brilliant blue, though she couldn't tell if that was the color they would stay, or if they would one day turn another color. It met her eyes and gave a curious mew. For now, this kitten was all the company she had; Arsenic had left to spend some time catching up with Aviva and getting to know Zar. That was fine though...she had a lot on her mind, and as much as she appreciated his always being there for her, these were things she didn't want Arsenic picking up on. As she shifted, the skin over the raised scar on her back stretched, bringing her crippled state to the forefront of her mind. If there was a war coming, how was she going to fight like this? Just moving debris away from her ruined home had triggered a fit; she was lucky that fighting off the banshees and other creatures living in the Shadepines hadn't done the same. I'm the last of my bloodline, she caught herself thinking again, and I'm barely fit to do the simplest things. Mama, what did they do to me? She gave the kitten a squeeze to comfort herself, resting her cheek against warm, soft fur for a moment, listening to the purring beneath her ear. How can I be a whole person again?

"Who is sick? Where are they?" asked the Archknight through narrowed eyes, considering the implications. Desrium was obviously still powerful...

It wasn't long before Septimus found himself gliding between mountains and over forests, the roaring of the waves and calls of seagulls behind him, replaced by the rich scent of the pine trees below, the chirping of birds and sights of small herds of woodland animals, wild horses and deer among them. In the distance, a city came into view, it's perimeter encircled with a large wooden palisade. watch towers dotted the wall's inner face at regular intervals, with guards watching for threats vigilantly in each. The Dragon guessed they were armed either with crossbows or bows, perhaps even both if they had enough men to spare. His eyes fell upon one particular detail however, that worried him. at various points around the city, large wooden platforms stood, upon which stood every Dragon's most feared enemy; ballistae. Rare though they were in this settlement, a slight miscalculation on his part could be fatal. He had, in the past, caught ballista bolts. However, those were with the body he knew perfectly. the one he had used until only two days ago. He didn't know if he had mastered his new form sufficiently to guarantee he could evade a shot from something so dangerous. Making a quick decision, the Dragon began to descend, dropping out of the sky until his silhouette was broken against the forests behind him, the Dragon approaching the city from a lower height, hoping to throw off their guesses at his distance if they chose to fire. If he was lucky however, they wouldn't. Still, he prepared himself...

"I have a group of three, four if you count myself. At best, I have transportation for two of them. But that does not count our supplies, our equipment. We need fast, strong and enduring steeds for at least three of us" said Andruil, partly to himself to remind him of what he had to keep in mind, and partly to explain the situation to the Gryphonner. "You're the expert in the field, sir Dwarf. What would you suggest?" he asked as he shifted his gaze from the gryphons in the stables, to the stout, sturdily built man before him. Shiryaz, meanwhile, had begun staring down the various Gryphons in the stalls, an amusing sight once one considered the sheer difference in scale between the beasts and the bird...

"A little," Jiier responded, grabbing a leg of some sort of meat from the table, consuming it hungrily. Eating as he walked, Jiier made his way outside after a short goodbye to the assembled vikings, intent on flying off as soon as he finished his meal.

"Down at the-" the fisherman began to say, stopping when he realized the Valenhad hunters didn't know anything of the village's layout. "Er, come 'long with me" he said, not even bothering to shut his door as he sped off along the walkway, heading deeper into the village. His destination was a large building of exceptional quality. It was dome shaped with circular windows cut into the walls made of various types of coastal wood. A finely carved spire extended from the middle of the rounded roof and a multitude of thin ropes ran off from it with multicolored flags flapping in the breeze. It was hard to believe that was the village hospital rather than a festive gathering place. It was a stark contrast to the unnatural quiet and melancholy that had befell Furosta...

"Hmm" rumbled one of the guards who looked out over the plains with a brown spyglass that had a lining of silver around its six segments. He slid the telescope into itself and looked to a fellow guardsman, his crossbow strapped onto the back of his steel chest plate. The green sleeves than ran out from the gray metal were being tossed about by the breeze blowing across the grassland. "Something's coming" the sentry reported. "Goblin raid? Gnome rush? Another one of those knights?" asked the guard, adding emphasis to the word "knight" after being visited a few days prior. "No...it...it looked like a dragon except it was flying really low to the ground. Could've barely made it out against the trees and we certainly can't hit it if we opened fire. Just too fast, it is" the sentry replied.
"Right. Going to spread the word" the guard replied, walking to the other side of the tower. There, a horn awaited, from its narrow point it expanded in a corkscrew pattern. The guard blew into the instrument and a loud yet low tone traveled from the facing wall. The guards stationed at the other towers blew their horns almost simultaneously in response. At this, Urlox, captain of the guard, set out to order the city's defenders. The doors of the Daaven council flew open with a tremendous bang, the burly, bearded man stepping out into the open followed by his sword-armed militia.

Desrium followed his friend out into the cold, the blizzard's barrage of snow unrelenting.

"Do you know anything of where this creature went?" inquired Tacitus as he followed, the Vindicators close behind...

As Septimus closed in, he tilted his wings upwards, slowing himself and making himself visible, being wary of his city as he approached. he had a fireball prepared in case he couldn't catch or dodge an incoming ballista bolt. But he hoped he wouldn't be forced to resort to that, as it would only further the city's suspicions that he was hostile...

"He got forced off into the woods y'know. We haven't seen 'im since but damn did he leave an impression! People've been afraid to leave their homes! I was one of 'em!" the fisherman said

"Whats it doin' now!?" Urlox boomed. "Its rearing up! I think it's about to hit us with something big!" a sentry called down from above. Urlox cursed beneath his breath. Many groups had come to him over the past days, historians, mages, all warning him about the possible danger that awaited Daaven in the wake of Desrium's appearance. He shrugged them off, having seen the armored being himself. He did not believe something as simple and naive posed a threat, despite his appearance. Could he have been wrong after all?
"What in the...er...the dragon appears to have...luggage, captain!" the sentry reported, voice shaking somewhat. "...The hell..." Urlox muttered to a guard beside him. The bewildered warrior only shrugged. "Why the bloody hell does it have luggage!?" Urlox inquired though his voice was still as loud and commanding as ever. "It could be its hoard!" another sentry replied from another tower. "Dragons tend to hoard things and its not a good idea to touch their hoards!"
"That's the most-!" Urlox shouted before muttering something below his breath. "Open the gate! I have a feelin' this isn't any blood thirsty beast!" he commanded, the gate keepers complying. They walked over to the winches that controlled the hulking wooden doors of the palisades and turned the giant wheels. With a loud creaking, the gates were pulled apart, revealing the wide paved path that was the city's main street...

"Hmmm..." The dwarf brought a hand up to scratch his beard thoughtfully as he surveyed his stock. "If yer goin' t'be carryin' a lot of cargo, Ah'd rec'mmend one o' the hippogriffs to be yur dedicated pack-an'mal. That way t'will take as much weight as poss'ble offa the mounts and 'elp their endurance. If speed is import'nt, the ones with more poin'ed wings'd be what yer lookin' fer. Sulrana may be suitab'l, dependin' on how much weight she's goin't be carryin'. With a lighter load she makes a very swift mount. Ereblenn might also be a good choice, seein' as he's a bit stronger an' just about as fast." Just as the dwarf finished, Sulrana swallowed the last bit of flesh left on the rabbit and lifted her head, ears pricking as she turned her attention toward the two men, then noticed the Gryphon Hawk perched on Andruil's shoulder and moved right up to the gate next to the dwarf to stare at the avian through deep, glittering black eyes, head cocked...

His meal stripped to the bone, Jiier tossed it into a snow drift and hurried off toward an isolated part of the city, behind a few buildings. Having not shown his draconic form to the vikings yet, Jiier had no intention of explaining it now. Transforming once they were out of sight, Jiier let Desrium onto his back before taking off, their ascent obscured by the blizzard raging around them. The weather would make their journey difficult, but thankfully not impossible...

Discord smirked, then shot straight into the air, intending to lure Smaug on a wild goose chase while the city's soldiers tried to shoot the dragon down. This would most certainly be an interesting battle...

At the mention that it had been driven off into the woods, one of the Vindicators shook his head, cursing under his breath. There'd be almost no way of tracking it now. "Was there anywhere in the city that it stayed for an extended period of time?" questioned the Archknight, keeping his calm and focused tone, not wanting to show any signs that he was worried, to avoid hurting the civilian's morale anymore than it had been already...

Septimus eyed the opening gates warily, approaching slowly and carefully. He was relieved they hadn't fired at him with the ballistae, but at the same time, he worried as to whether or not there was something else to this. His time in the world of mortals had made him wary, and since his...change, he had grown conscious of how imposing and intimidating he must've been to men. No longer could he simply walk into libraries like he did. No more was he capable of simply wandering a market place. But.....He knew he had the power to change that. Thurduunax had granted him it. He just had to learn...but how? He resolved to ponder it later. for now, he needed to remain focused. before him stood the tall wooden doors of the city of Daaven the wood was aged and appeared to be strong, large chains linked to it implying the gates were likely notably heavy. the Dragon glanced around to see if he could pinpoint whoever was in charge of the guards here. someone of authority that he could speak to and hopefully ensure his benevolence to. The sooner he could be sure he wouldn't be killed merely for existing, the sooner he culd move his focus to finding Desrium and Jiier...

"A respectable collection, my friend. The last time I saw such healthy Gryphons was in my native Valenhad...I wonder though. What kind of prices do you expect for one of these fine creatures? Perhaps I can better decide how to go about equipping my party once I know how much I'll need to invest" said Andruil as he eyed Myrn with an amused smile, as Shiryaz meanwhile locked his gaze with Sulrana, the wide pupils in his golden eyes contracting as the stare gained an eerily predatory streak. It would be intimidating if not for the humorous size difference between himself and the gryphon...

Smaug ignored the arrows and fireballs that hit him, the arrows simply boucing off his hide, and the fireballs splashing off harmessly as the dragon pursued Discord, a fiery pillar of flames spewing from his maw right at the chimera. He had come here for one reason only, and once he tore this serpentine joke apart, he'd make this city pay for taking what was his...

Down on the ground, the crossbowers and archers continued to fire upon Smaug, trying to find a weakpoint to exploint, while Djinn and Guame unleashed flaming eyeballs and large chunks of rock up at the dragon...

"Extended? I'd 'ave to say the pub would be that place. Just waltzed into it and gave er'one a big fright!" the man said as he came to a point where the path branched off. Directly down its length was the hospital. On a left turn there were a line of huts spanning the distance down to another large building, the decorated social center of the village. Numerous torches mounted on carved poles and extinguished from neglect, were situated all around it and more vibrant flags hung limply from ropes that wrapped around the walls...

Once the gates were fully opened, a collection of guards rushed forward with Urlox leading the group, swords sheathed for the time being. Their leader had told them to keep wary, but not to be openly hostile. The thumping of the dragon's wings were clearly audible by time they stood just within Daaven's mighty walls, seeing the creature as it drew ever closer.

As Jiier powered through the freezing storm, Desrium had returned to his silence, gathering a thicker coating of ice and frost around his body. Icicles developed just below his eyes, looking almost like short, stubby horns...
