"Sand. A great amount of sand" Desrium mused, staring down at the desert from Septimus' back. "I did not know a lake could exist in such an environment" he said, unaffected by the harsh sun and scorching temperatures of the desert day time. In fact, his armor retained its strange coldness even in the heat...

"Silverlake City is built around an oasis. One of the only truly hospitable places in this desert" rumbled Septimus as he ascended higher, the heat not so harsh at higher altitudes...

"How're you managing, Vix?" asked Andruil as they ascended, the city gates now little more than a pinhead-sized dot in the distance behind them...

"I see. Its inhabitants will know what the entirety of Aster could be like from their experiences here. We shall not have difficulty informing them of the threat" Desrium stated. The desolate shifting plains shrunk as Septimus ascended even higher. A dust storm billowed and obscured the scenery below, the only reprieve from the unrelenting sun this land knew during the day...

(OOC: Sorry for being away for so long... )

Byakuren and the others looked at each other, then at Discord, and then at Smaug, whose patience was wearing thin, before nodding. the three turned to Smaug.

"Seeing as this was both a misunderstanding and a ploy to get you to attack us, we will return your goblet and set you free... if you promise to leave peacefully." Guame asked the dragon, who snorted.

" I am a dragon of my word. Now, if this chimera would get off my head..." Smaug snarled...

Smaug glared at Discord, but stayed still as the arches that held his body in place withdrew back into the ground. Djinn tosses the goblet to the Fire Drake, who catched it in his clawed hand, careful not to crush it. The dragon rose up onto his legs, the pain from his wounds hurting, but otherwise still able to stand. "The next time something like this happens, I won't wait until morning to retaliate, or be so lenient!" He howled before spreading his wings and taking off, back to his cave...

On the floor of the arena, Byakuren, Djinn and Guame looked around at the damage caused by Smaug. Several knights and archers had been killed, as was a dragon rider and his mount. Two dozon others were injured, but the only damage to the city had been to the collusseum, and there had been no civilian casualties. It could have been worse, bit it still wasn't a pretty picture, espeically since they now knew who was behind it..

Now with the dragon gone, Byakuren called down into the catacombs and yelled that it was safe to now come back out. Thousands of people were now pouring out of the exit, including Dione, who was with Trajan and Lamia...

Discord examined the destruction around him and scoffed. "I expected a bit more... collateral damage from him. Disappointing..."

Sulrana and Myrn continued to climb steeply until they were nearly level with the hippogriff, at which point they lessened their rate of ascent to match his and quickened their speed a bit, forming up in a loose echelon behind their leader. Sulrana was next in line to Thalion, flying slightly below, her deep black gaze scanning the sky and ground interestedly. Myrn brought up the rear, her forelegs tucked tightly to her body, splayed tail feathers twitching and adjusting to the wind currents to keep her on course. She looked back only once at the city that had been her home for as long as she could remember before setting her narrowed eyes forward...

"They are not known for dedicating themselves to a foreign cause without sufficient motivation. Their resources are too prohibitive to allow such generosity, as generous as they are on a personal level. We will have to emphasise the desolation this being is capable of causing. simply saying 'Imagine the entirety of Aster like this' will only lead to them shrugging it off. They have learned to adapt to this place so well that they need nothing more than what is provided" rumbled Septimus as he flew, his eyes gazing upon the shifting blanket of sand below, tumbling relentlessly across the dunes, once again changing the face of the desert and destroying any hope of direction plotting based upon the shifting landscape. Even up here, only the sun and Septimus' own biological compass allowed him to avoid losing track of his direction...even his actual speed wasn't so easy to determine, as the currents of the air seemed to differ between the lower layers of the atmosphere where the dust storm raged, and the one he flew through now...It was comparable to swimming with one's eyes closed, in the midst of a strong current...

"There would be nothing provided for them except dust. Their fish-filled lake would be a figment of the past, as would this light from the sun" said the armored being being, his monotone not conveying just how grim the future looked for the entire land of Aster.

"Perhaps they would be best convinced by assuring them of their own demise," Jiier commented nonchalantly. They were talking about the being's impact on the location itself, rather than its people, after all.

"Indeed. We'll see how things play out once we reach there" rumbled Septimus finally as he continued flying...

Several hours later, The Dragon descended towards the ground. the dust storm had begun to clear from the ground below, as above, the sky had darkened, the brim of the sun's golden disk barely visible on the horizon, the blood red sky quickly shifting to a rich purple hue. Even so far above the earth, and with his own navigational skill, tracking down the oasis in the desert had been difficult. the storm had obscured the earth below, and only after a period of searching had he managed to finally track down the location of the desert city. As the name implied, the lake around which the city was built shimmered on odd silver hue, seemingly disregarding the colour of the sky above; something that was doubtlessly unnatural. Septimus had never been here before, and so little was known of this city that it was the source of endless myths and legends. small mud-brick houses dotted the area around the lake, and palm trees could be seen interspersed throughout the city. wooden protrusions could be seen along the uppermost parts of the walls, less than a foot from the suspected ceiling of the houses; the support beams for the rough. herds of camels, sheep and a few unfamiliar looking creatures could be seen being herded into the city, from the surrounding desert. large corrals dotted the outer reaches of the city, where these animals were undoubtedly kept. For a desert city, Silverlake seemed startlingly prosperous...

Elsewhere, Andruil and his comrades had finally passed Shadepines, the ancient, haunted wood finally behind them. ahead of them was a lightly forested area, within which stood the willows that interweaved to form Andruil's camp. seeing the camp in the distance, he spurred Thalion onwards, pointing the powerful hippogriff downwards towards the ground, receiving a partially annoyed, partially relieved snort from the beast as it descended, ceasing to beat his wings, gliding slowly towards the ground. "We're here, Vix" said Andruil softly, the wind having calmed sufficiently at this altitude to allow his voice to be heard...

"Great," Vix replied shortly, not trusting herself to say more just now. The flight had certainly taken its toll on her nerves; she was still white-faced, and while her last meal had stayed down, she'd felt as if she were going to be sick the entire flight. She'd avoided looking anywhere but her tightly clenched fists, and judging from the sting in her palms, her nails had probably broken through the soft skin. She definitely didn't like flying any more than she had when contemplating it with her feet on the ground...

Farther ahead, Arsenic heard Aviva give an exhausted growl. He patted her neck reassuringly, murmuring to her, Not far now. He knew exactly how hard she'd pushed herself to get this far in such a short time - and she would get the rest she rightfully deserved when they landed, which would be shortly. The village was within their sight - or rather, hers. With the keen vision of a predator, Aviva had picked it out and was approaching rapidly. They would be able to see how things were going soon...and deliver the message that the others were on their way back.

Thalion was soon gliding just over the ground, splaying his wings and tail feathers enough that he could slow down to within running speed, before letting his feat touch the ground in a flat out gallop, slowing to a stop just short of the beginning of the forest ahead. Andruil leapt off the hippogriff as soon as they had stopped moving, before helping Vix off...

Tettoe'ko smoothly steered Sulrana towards the ground as well, the griffon slowing to a stop behind Thalion. The flight had been long, but not particularly bothersome for the Skink or his tiny draconic companion...

As soon as Vix's feet hit the ground, she staggered forward a couple of steps as her knees threatened to give out. She could feel a fine trembling through every muscle in her body, as if she were going to faint. Slowly, she opened up her hands and examined the angry red crescent-shaped marks on her palms. Strangely, she didn't feel as relieved as she'd thought to be on solid ground again...probably because she knew they'd have to fly again.

Bracing against one of the cushioned walls, Desrium had returned to his place inside the Hueilin's satchels some time during the extensive flight. Surrounded by the loaded shelves of books and trinkets; one of which was his own empty sheath, Desrium slipped into meditation. With nearly no disturbance aside from the forces exerted by Septimus' flight, the Blood Omen's concentration was uninterrupted, allowing him to progress substantially in his inner journey. The result after hours of intense focus was a surge in his internal energies, his eyes shimmering blue, an aura manifesting itself around his metal shell. Light was refracted through the magical field, the colors of the spectrum shooting across it, varying in brilliance.

Myrn followed the others' lead, taking the descent rather more quickly and steeply than Sulrana had, before sweeping into the landing site and leveling off with a flare of her pointed black wings and touching down at a run, slowing to a trot and finally a stop near the group, though still keeping a little more distance from Thalion than seemed necessary. She flicked her gaze around the area, lingering on the treeline in particular, more out of caution than curiosity, the new surroundings setting the gryphon slightly on edge...

Jiier followed Septimus closely. With dust storms and expansive desert around them, he knew it wouldn't take much to get lost.

The shadows continued to creep across Aster, casting entire cities into unnatural twilight. But at the heart of the continent, there was no light at all. The source of the billowing shadows, the center of Aster was being suffocated with darkness. Even with artificial light present, one could only see a few feet through the oppressive blackness. Three swirling streams of living shadow shot through the dark, blending seamlessly with their surroundings. The shadows disappeared into the blackened, monstrous structure standing at the very center of the continent. The darkness that was spewing from the colossus suddenly intensified, the shadows reaching across Aster hastening as a result. Already, a massive portion of the continent had become a gigantic blackened wound, and it showed no sign of stopping.

A few miles from the very center, a figure peered through the blackness. Although she couldn't hope to see the structure in the distance, she didn't have to. She had seen this darkness before. She knew what it meant. There was little time left if all of Aster wished to survive. She would need to move quickly...

By this point, the city of Tristan was back to normal from Smaug's "visit", with slaves rebuilding the damaged arena, and those soldiers that had recieved injuries being treated currently. Meanwhile, Guame, Byakuren, Djinn, and Trajan had been busy questioning Dione as to how she had been able to unleash ice magic. They were all now inside the Emperor's Dining Hall and had been questioning the young pope for the last couple of hours. Control over magic wasn't something that just sprang up out of nowhere... it had to be honed and practiced, and yet, Dione could only reply with one answer... that the bird she had seen the other day had given her that ability. Also, she herself hadn't been intrested in magic use, as had most inhabitants of Germania.

Guame rubbed his chin. "If that is the case, then you have recieved a great gift. Power over elemental magic isn't an easy thing to learn, especially for one who has never tried magic before. No doubt favor has shone upon you. Now, there's one other important thing to discuss... our friend Byakuren here." Guame shifted his gaze over to the monk, who sighed.

Trajan tilted his head. "What's wrong with her? Why do we need to talk about her?" He asked, not having heard of Arashi had spilled about her...

Back at Burzum's castle, Akuro was laying down on his belly in his usual wolf-like form, the Kitsune's eight tails fluttering around. He gazed up as he saw Mara enter into his room.

" I take it that you enjoyed your leisure time?" The fox demon growled at her.

Mara looked over at Akuro, only fo rher eyes to lock on the new tail he had obtained. "You are almost at full power, Lord Akuro. It will only be a matter of time... and yes, I did enjoy my free time." She replied, spinning her staff around in one hand.

" Yes, it will only be a matter of time..." The Kitsune spoke as he gazed out into the artificial darkness that loomed off in the distance. If what he had heard was right, then he'd be paying a visit to the capital of Draxon very, very soon... and while he would be gone, Mara would be having her own fun...
