"Is that so?" the Ra'zac hissed. "My Lord will not be pleased to hear of your betrayal, Emperor. You will be punished suitably. Enjoy the rest of your afternoon..." Had it been the female, she likely would have lodged a throwing knife in his throat, but the male had more restraint. Instead, he merely turned and left, heading back outside...

Once the male had left the room, Byakuren looked over at Trajan. "Again, don't worry. I have experience dealing with demons, both good and evil."

"Um what did you do to the evil ones?"

"If they refused to reform, then I had to rid them from the world in order to preserve peace betweens humans and supernatural beings." Was Byakuren's response, the youthful magician's optimistic smile almost reassuring Trajan... However, Trajan knew that what the Ra'zac said wasn't lies... He would have to deal with Zazikel... A modern version of Jacob against the Angel of God, only he would be up against an evil demon instead of an angel... A thought that sent shivers down his spine...

As the Ra'zac stalked outside, getting back on his Lethrblaka, his sister hissed, "What happened?" "The good Emperor has forfeited his life. He has refused Zazikel's alliance." "Who don't we just kill him now?" "Zazikel would not want him dead. Not yet. He wants to watch him suffer. I'm sure he has something special in mind for the traitor..." With that, the two Lethrblaka flew off, intent of giving the Archdemon the bad news...

Trajan called up to Dione, telling her to bring everyone back down. Within a few minutes, the young pope was back at the table, along with everyone else.

"So, how did it go?" Guame asked the Emperor.

"I told them that due to unfortunate circumstances, I had to forefit the deal, and they said to me that their Lord would punish me suitably, and they left..." Trajan replied.

Djinn yawned. "Is that seriously it? So what if their demon lord comes around? We can handle him... right?"

Byakuren nodded. " I am certain we can handle this Zazikel. However, we should have some time before he comes to punish Trajan here, so we should work on preparing ourselves... which includes getting Dione here prepped up on her newly-found magic use..."

Drac continued his descent down the stairs, his eyes on the barracks...

Dhoulmagus managed to escape the palace in one peice, before he changed to the shape of a crow and flew off back towards the mountains surrounding Draxon. Soon, he will taste blood again....

Sharavuras soon reached the village he had been searching for, though it seemed to have a wooden palisade aroudn it now. Undetered, Sharavuras rode around the wooden wall, searching for a gate he could go through...

"I think Archie's a bit too busy to deal with our noble Emperor here personally," Discord remarked, floating back over to the, now very messy, dining table to find more food. "I'm sure he's got bigger fish to fry. Or drain the life from, you know how Demons are..."

The black and white gryphon noted Andruil's motion and had just begun to walk toward him when Sulrana brushed ahead, taking the last few steps at a trot, looking alert as she came to a stop near Thalion. The raven mix paused momentarily to shoot an irritated stare at the other female, then skulked her way over to the others, looking decidedly tiger-like, her orange stare slightly narrowed, ears pinned back. Despite her disgruntled appearance, once near the group, she halted and waited obediently, though she still eyed the more energetic Kestrel mix scathingly, as if she thought this was no time to be enthusiastic...

Elias Got up and grabbed one of the sticks that was thicker from the fires edge of the pit that was still burning . He sighed softly and looked north the way the streamed flowed . " well time to walk " he said softly and began walking north fallowing the river wondering again . He hoped this would lead him somewhere that he could have a real meal and sleep in something that's at lest close to a bed .
" Dear God the only thing I ask of you is
to hold her when I'm not around,
when I'm much too far away
We all need that person who can be true to you
But I left her when I found her
And now I wish I'd stayed
'Cause I'm lonely and I'm tired
I'm missing you again oh no
Once again " - avenged sevenfold dear god

It wasn't long until Septimus, Jiier and Desrium were led into the large throne room, the tall chamber having many narrow windows near the ceiling, letting in air but keeping it cool, the centre of the throne room occupied by a large fireplace, upon which a grill was placed to keep anything from accidentally falling into the fire. on the other end of the chamber, on a very low-set throne made of what looked like ivory, sat an elf in robes that seemed almost too warm for a desert climate. His long platinum blonde hair contrasted sharply with the dark skin, and glowing blue eyes stared intensely at the newcomers, the glow almost bright enough to match Septimus's own cyan gaze. his finely trimmed beard was only as wide as edges of his mouth, and long enough for a man to wrap a full hand around it. it extended upwards, linking to an equally well trimmed mustache. Septimus could sense this elf was wise. Easily the wisest being in the room at that moment, with the possible exception of Jiier, though Septimus hadn't yet truly seen how wise or experienced Jiier was, and had chosen not to disrespect him with the invasive action of reading his mind to find out. The throne upon which the ruler was perched was barely more than a foot off the ground, and wide, meant to be sat on cross-legged. intricate carvings could be seen decorating the throne, with some unknown script decorating the back of the throne, arcing over the leader's head. To either side were rows of long rectangular cushions, decorated with hues of red, black, white and blue, forming intricate, exotic designs. on the floor beneath these cushions were carpets decorated similarly, though the patterns were not quite as condensed, being a bit more gentle on the eyes. A few other elves, also dressed in more noble attire than the guards and the occasional servant that could be seen wandering the fortress, sat on the carpet with their backs against the cushions, some of the extra, stray cushions being used as arm rests by those present. The apparent leader of the elves sipped a strong smelling drink from a small cup, held between two of his fingers and supported by a third from below. It surprised Septimus to see any drink consumed in such small quantities. In other settlements occupied by men or elves, their mugs, cups or glasses tended to be large, sometimes too large to be held with one hand. The scent of the drink was also intriguing. The Dragon had never once smelled anything like it. It was rich, earthy and pleasant, having a mildly sweet scent to it in addition to the odd, herb-like scent that was blended into it. As they approached, the Commander of the guard spoke to the leader, their language somewhat musical, flowing in a way that Dragon and human languages did not. the guard nodded to the ruler, before stepping aside. "You....Come from beyond the sands. The first...in many millennia" said the leader slowly, his tone calm, his pace deliberate. "Few....would risk braving the desert to get here...fewer still succeed. There must be a good reason for you to take such risks. Especially in spite of the dust storm that struck today" he added interestedly as he shifted on his throne, reaching for a kettle on a small fire to his left, placed in what looked like a portable fireplace. lifting the kettle off the fire, he refilled his small cup, or mug, if it could be called that. A rich brown coloured liquid poured from it, and Septimus could again smell the rich scent from before. Once the elf had finished serving himself and had set the kettle back on the fire, he looked up at the trio, rising to his feet, revealing himself to be nearly 7 feet tall, but of a notably slender build characteristic of elves. "My name is Antar Timeem. I am the Qa'id, or leader, of the Hukkamil-Birran. On behalf of my people, I Welcome you to the city of Thimeyra; Silverlake in Aster's common tongue" he said as he stood, walking towards the trio, extending a hand to them...

Andruil smirked at the antics of the two gryphons, patting Myrn on the back with a chuckle. "Cheer up, Myrn. No need to get your feathers ruffled over bouncy little Sulrana here" he said as he undid the reigns and bits on the Gryphons' necks and mouths, deciding not to remove the saddles so as to reduce the risk of theft, though removing the travelling equipment he had mounted on Myrn's back to make flight easier for her. He then moved to Thalion, repeating the gesture with the bit and reigns, the Hippogriff looking down indignantly at the two smaller gryphons, somewhat annoyed by the silliness of their actions, though choosing to ignore them. It was obvious their master preferred him anyway. Nothing else mattered. "Now, you three go feed, but don't be long" he said firmly, knowing the animals were intelligent enough to understand him. "We're leaving at dawn" he added, Thalion eyeing the half-elf seriously for a few moments before turning towards the nearest clearing and taking to the sky, as Andruil went to set up the bed rolls, leaving it to Vix and Tetto to get a fireplace going...

Meanwhile, back in the city of Tristan, the piercing screech of a Griffin hawk could be heard as the bird flew towards one of the mail towers, delivering a message from Valenhad. The bird swooped down and into the room at the top of the tower, splaying its wings widely as it slowed its dive, landing on one of the many perches within, awaiting a keeper to retrieve its letter...

"There is no time for formality" Desrium said bluntly, his eyes flaring in his hood, peering down at the elder elf. "I will assume you have seen the darkness in the distance. That means the crisis has accelerated and your kind is in grave danger"

"I....see" said the dark skinned elf, Septimus taking his hand anyway, shaking it gently with his own admittedly oversized taloned hand, not wanting their host to be put in the awkward situation of getting a friendly gesture refused. "My men had told me that you came with news of doom and desolation. I have been watching the shadow almost since it first emerged. I am aware that whatever it holds will have consequences that reach far and wide. But tell me, if you are so knowledgeable, just what it is this 'shadow' brings to the inhabitants of this land?"...

The armored being simply stared at the elder at first, the glow from his gaze flickering as he perused his thoughts for a way to rephrase what the elf's comrades had told him. Failing in his task, Desrium simply said "Death. Certain death if not stopped"

"Death comes to us all, my friend. Perhaps it is our fate to be killed by this 'shadow'. Perhaps our time is done, and the time has come for whatever succeeds us to take our place" said the elf with a smile. "Would you so swiftly deny those that follow their chance?" he added. "If it's their time to come, it'll come regardless of our actions. But I'd rather die fighting for my right to continue, than lie as a coward awaiting my demise" responded Septimus firmly, the Elf's gaze shifting to the Dragon interestedly. "Hmm....A fair answer. Brave. Strongly worded. You speak as though you were prepared to die for it" responded the elf. "Because I am" responded Septimus simply. "Very well, dragon. Tell me, you, or your comrades, all you know of this being, its power and its actions. Once your story is complete, I will give you my answer. I cannot be expected to declare war on an entity I do not know, for reasons I myself am unaware, simply because three travellers, however rare travellers may be, have come to me demanding my stance in their cause" said Antar as he returned to his throne, sitting down once more, continuing to drink the beverage he had poured for himself earlier. Septimus looked at Desrium for a moment. "Tell him everything you know about the shadow" growled the Dragon, making sure to specify when he said it. On the one hand, he didn't want Desrium to leave out any details on his knowledge of the beast, but on the other, he didn't want it to be so broad it spanned all the other peripheral details of what went on at the time...

"Alright then, friend." Desrium replied with a nod before looking up at the desert-elf. "Our enemy is a being unlike any other this land has to offer. He has shown himself able to corrupt the bodies of those he claims as pawns" Desrium stated, his memories of Zuppoland and the first fight coming to the forefront of his mind. "He can traverse all of Aster much faster than even the fastest dragon and I have seen him take a black, armored form in my encounter with him. His true form is much more discomforting. The shadows he creates are darker than the blackest night and I believe he wishes to spread them all over Aster. He was searching for a minion to serve him directly last I saw him. I do not know if he has acquired one. What I do know is that the destruction of all life, mortal or immortal is not his intent however. Another has informed me it is simply the effects of his true plans, what ever they may be" the Blood Omen concluded...

'The sooner everything's ready, the better,' Arsenic said with a small incline of the head. 'From the looks of things, time isn't on our side. How are the wounded?' he asked, concern creeping into his tone. Many of the people injured were friends he'd known all his life; so were several of those who had been buried.

Vix had leaned against the tree's trunk to better steady herself, the elven woman suddenly wishing Arsenic were here to be sure trouble wasn't around. Her old friend had a more important job to do now though, and she knew as well as anyone that he couldn't be around all of the time. She watched Andruil's interaction with the gryphons, feeling a small smile tug at her lips. "You're good with them," she commented, taking a few tentative steps to get her confidence in her ability to walk back.

"This...other. How can you be sure it is to be trusted?" inquired the elf calmly, listening intently to Desrium's relation of the events, obviously giving it serious consideration. the other elves in the chamber also listened to the armoured being silently, though not all of them understood the language...

"We have a couple of Vindicators from the Council of Mercutio, our most highly skilled order of magi and demon-hunters, tending to them. They are recovering. You could check in on them yourself. They're in that shack by the gate. Just be careful not to disrupt their work. It can slow the recovery process, from what I've been told" responded Dervin with a reassuring smile. It was the smile of sympathy. He knew how Arsenic felt...

"They're clever animals. Clever enough to understand. You just have to get into their way of thinking. I think you could probably guess by now I'm an expert at thinking like an animal" responded Andruil with a low chuckle...

"You," a voice rang out in Arsenic's mind. "Where are your friends? Did they survive?" it continued. No doubt one as familiar as the elf in the art of mental magic would realize where the voice was coming from: the avian creature still perched on one of the buildings.

Arsenic nodded to Dervin, replying, 'I may go and do that; thank you.' As he turned towards the indicated shack and the bird contacted him, he realized with a start of surprise that he recognized the presence; the cat who had been there at the start of the fight with the archdemon had taken the form of a bird. A changeling. They're alive and well, he replied, and they'll be here soon.

"That is good. We have much to discuss. Your efforts have become far more complicated than you realize," the bird responded telepathically, staring at Arsenic unblinkingly.
