The machines of war rested far in the rear of Draxon's legions, the massive wood and steel constructs readied with many of stones that littered the dark area. Knights, sitting upon their armor plated steeds and clad in their brilliant steel armor and trimmed with dull gold, locked their gazes far off into the distance. They had their lances immediately at the ready, with their longswords, with hilts adorned with jewels, at their waists. They had their shields, adorned with the blazing red eyes of Greshlynk, readied as well. The footsoldiers did not look too shabby either; their dull, heavy iron armor gave them an intimidating, almost inhuman appearence, with thick helmets, brims that almost obscured their eyes, and, in the case of captains, large, vibrant red crests upon them. Thier thick shields, with a single spike jutting from the middle, and simple but fierce-looking swords were more than enough to inflict fear in all but the stoutest of hearts. Claymore wielders stood amongst the ranks, armed with menacing yet majestic blades. Gryphon riders circled overhead, both rider and beast clad in some of the most beautiful armor made by human hands. Formidonis, the drake of the kingdom, was given imposing armor to give him an even more intimidating appearence, with large, spiked horns adorning his helmet, sharp ridged plates covering his chest and back, thorny spikes adorning his leg armor, and a large bladed structure added to his tail thanks to his armor. Draxon was ready to fight, to the last man, if need be...

The group continued to rest, Kard feeling a bit tired himself...

On Septimus' back, the Blood Omen rode, the double pronged spear angled backwards over his shoulder. The armored being was drastically different from the naive outcast that found his way onto Aster's shore. No longer was he confused and unknowing; on the contrary, with his memories recovered and the communion with the elemental he possessed a wealth of knowledge that one would never expect given his outwardly simplicity. Following that was the armored being's great strength and prowess with his weapons, be it his sword, spear or ingrained magical might. Tireless training over the prior days reforged the harbinger of the unfortunate into a servant of Moria: a Justicar.

"Jiier is still absent, Septimus" Desrium said simply, noting the maned dragon's disappearance in the hours before the march.

Icil had a feeling that something... bad was happening. The succubus walked to Kard, hugging her knees after she sat down.

"Kard, I have a bad feeling... like something is getting ready to hunt us..." she said quietly.

Cyris shouted out loudly in pain, the sound echoing throughout the forest as her teeth started to become more jagged. The elf's hands began to sport claws on her fingers and thumbs, and her eyes had a more fiery glow to them. Her pupils then faded away slowly. The shout soon grew into a slight snarl...

Kard nodded.

"I... I feel it too, Icil...." the warrior replied. "I think it be wise to get moving once more."

Ivan yawned, rubbing the sleep from his eyes before he stumbled to his feet, the elderly man using his walking stick to maintain his balance.

"Anyone else feel an odd presence in this air?" the storyteller said.

"Aye," Kard replied, the warrior pulling out his pipe and taking in a deep breath of smoke.

Nitsunobue stood amongst the ranks of the heroes, low growls occasionally exitting his maw as he awaited his opportunity to fight...

Cyris looked around. She had grown more corrupted with insanity, and had a thirst for the innocent souls of her victims. She turned back to the direction of the group, intending to check if they were still there. If they were, she would make them stay permanently...

Icil could hear the snarl-like shout, which struck slight fear into her heart. She suddenly clung to Kard's arm, shuddering slightly...

"Aahh...Master, these for us?" a drawling voice sounded around the edges of the Draxonian army, as something large shifted in the unforgiving dark. "It has been...so long...since we have tasted living flesh..." Now there were numerous cases of movement all around the eastern flank of the assembled soldiers, delighted hissing and taunting laughter echoing from the shadows. "...No? How...disappointing..." the voice responded to seemingly no one, before the sounds ceased, and the Draxonian army was left in utter, silent darkness once more.

The goblins numbered only 10,000, comprised of mostly Vul'nul outfitted with a variety of different armor, based on how competent the individual had been determined to be. Ko'tor mages and archers were present as well, but were vastly outnumbered by their larger, dim-witted counterparts. Three massive steel cubes on wheels were being pulled at the back of the army by groups of Vul'nul goblins, terrifying bestial sounds emanating from within each of them. Catapults were also present in the goblin army.

The vikings of Vanguard numbered even less. At only 5,000, all of the warriors had seen tens of years of battle, and each of them could be comparable to 10 of the average human footsoldier. They were outfitted with a vast variety of melee and ranged weapons, but lacked any sort of heavy machinery like catapults or ballistae.

Kard, too, heard it, and drew his blade in response, slowly backing up. Ivan's walking stick became bright with lightning magic once more, the old beaten wood staff glowing with ethereal energies.

"Everyone, get on Rattlebones!" Kard said, the warrior heading the skeletal wyvern. Ivan's hands became aglow, before he began to recite a spell. The groundbefore the group, just past where Kard was, became surrounded with a glowing line that soon faded into the earth. Ivan seemed immediately weakened from the spell, before he turned to the others.

"That should hold her for a bit, but it won't hold forever. Come on!" Ivan shouted.

Draxons kept relatively calm, though a bit fearful of the voices...

"Dammit!" Cyris snapped. She had been tricked, but that didn't mean she was stopped...

Icil dashed to Rattlebones, frantically getting onto the skeletal wyvern's back as she beckoned the rest of her group.

"Come on!" she chanted constantly.

Kard grabbed old Ivan and hoisted him up onto Rattlebones, before he followed suite, swinging himself up onto the skeletal creature, holding Ivan up as he sheathed his sword and pulled out his bow.

"Let's go!" Kard yelled.

Rattlebones snorted and took to the skies, Cyris soon following their path. She pulled out her crossbow, loaded it, and fired an arrow at the group, nearly grazing Icil's head with a prominent whff.

"I think you're not the only one that can shoot, Kard!" Icil warned in a frightened tone, yanking on the reins that allowed her to steer Rattlebones to make the wyvern go faster...

The jerking of Icil's sudden steering of Rattlebones caused Kard's arrow to miss, the arrow ricocheting off the ground with an audible thunk. Kard cursed aloud, angered at missing, but he wasn't the only one aiming for Cyris. Ivan's staff, charged full of lightning magic, suddenly discharged its powerful payload. The lightning bolt danced through the air, slithering akin to a serpent, as it approached Cyris, threatening to peirce through her and fill her with high voltage energy...

Cyris growled and fired another arrow at the bolt, piercing through the magical blast with a loud noise similar to shattering glass. However, this also destroyed the arrow in the process. The huntress reloaded the weapon, aiming for the group again carefully...

"I noticed" rumbled Septimus as he walked, not turning his head from the darkness ahead. "What happened, Desrium?" he asked, unaware of the incident that had sparked this odd situation...

"The creature that attacked us broke his staff in two. Since then he has been in crisis" Desrium replied plainly.

Septimus thought silently over it. "That staff was heavily enchanted. I wasn't aware it could break to a simple blow" he growled thoughtfully as he walked. "Are you sure his condition is due to the loss of the staff and not something else?" he asked after a few moments...

"I see" rumbled Septimus, thinking on the matter. Jiier wasn't the kind who would disappear because of an injury. Perhaps he relied on his simian form more than they were aware, and left to forge himself a new weapon for the coming fight? in four hours, it wouldn't be hard to imagine. To his knowledge, skilled weaponsmiths were capable of making powerful weapons in less time than that. Then again, Desrium described him being in crisis....If it was so simple as forging a new weapon, Jiier would've been more nonchalant than that. Perhaps...the weapon held sentimental value? Some kind of emotional connection, perhaps?

"He returned the favor and tore the creature apart. I have never seen him that angry before" Desrium added shortly after. The shapeshifter was always so collected and reserved. He was normally placid despite his great power. However that moment resulted in an explosive reaction, its aftermath still not yet over.

Septimus nodded. Clearly the weapon held some great sentimental value to the shapeshifter. But of what, he could not say. "The weapon clearly meant a lot to him" growled Septimus, voicing his thoughts...

"Of course. You know full well how I valued my own sword and how I reacted to it being taken from me in Zuppoland" Desrium said with a nod. "But I did not...become like how Jiier was"
