A split second after the impact, a small bolt of energy shot into Zazikel's right wing, quickly disappearing from sight. Another moment later, and the entire limb was blown to pieces with a monstrous crack, the chaotic energy tearing scale, membrane, and bone alike apart. Tzeentch shot up a few yards away, her face partially decomposed.

The cries of anguish washed over the battlefield, the song of sorrow etched into the dead air hanging over the place of suffering. For the warriors fighting for Aster's survival, the will to continue was astonishing in itself. So much was already lost and the enemies were either innumerable or of much greater power than the defenders. Yet they pressed on, fighting an uphill battle and giving their all. Those around the Blood Omen followed his light, clashing with the zombies on either side of him, relieving the onslaught that the armored being was pitted against.

This relief did not make the fighting any easier. Not by a long shot. The ground began to tremor as undead beasts came up with the infantry, the corrupted animals being burly like buffalo and sporting tusks like a warthog. They thundered onwards, running down undead and defender indiscriminately with Desrium just able to launch himself up and over their charge, the wings of light extended to full length on either side of him. He glided back to the ground and as soon as his boots touched the earth, he charged forth into the swarm...

Zazikel howled in pain, the magic surrounding him now the only thing keeping him aloft. He spun to face Tzeentch, face contorted in rage. He fired a bolt of his own energy back at the changeling as she shot upward, slicing through the tip of her tail and hacking it clean off...

Nitsunobue continued his fighting, swatting the mutants away and crushing those that he could. Periodically, he would look up at the carnage unfoldign high above, before he would return to fighting. His strength was waning, but he must keep fighting...

Draxon's mighty legion had been reduced to no more than 2,000 men at this point. They were strong and brave men, and fought with every bit of strength they could muster at this late point in the game, but heroism was no match for their foes' sheer numbers...

On eight legs, the behemoth that met Desrium was an alien blend of emperor scorpion, spider and cockroach, chitinous hide being of a rich amber-brown color mottled with black and marred with boils and cysts all along its back and sides. Bulbous pincers were attached to its bulky arms and its tail arced over its body covered in hairs. Three barbs were at its end, claws in their own right meant to grab their target as well as inject them with poison.

Against the spawn of Zuppoland, its venom meant nothing. Desrium jumped at his foe which then struck out with its tail. A broadside swing of the Lance knocked it off to the side and Desrium slashed at the limb as he soared over the scorpion's back, eventually landing behind it. The rasping snarl of an undead came up from behind, the zombified fighter hurling itself onto Desrium's back with several others following suit. The ground shook as the scorpion turned itself around, its many legs smashing the ground it stood upon.

The Lance of the Justicar burst forth through the body of a zombie on top of the pile of flesh and armor. It bulged as Desrium forced himself up, swinging the spear as he did. The movement dislodged a few of the undead and the Blood Omen reached over his shoulder with one hand, clutching a zombie by the neck and pulling it off with such force that its arms were ripped from their sockets, the limbs still grasping onto Desrium's shoulder spikes. Desrium threw the dismembered undead at the scorpion, the arachnid catching it in one giant claw. The zombie's armor crumpled as the mutated creature proceeded to crush it, the pincer cutting the hapless undead in two...

The limb exploded violently seconds after it was cut, the energy held within it tearing itself apart. Tzeentch snarled in pain and anger, glowing eyes glaring at Zazikel as she circled around him.

The viking leader of Vanguard drove his axe into the forehead of the monstrous worm, splitting the beast's carapace but failing to deliver a killing blow. With one thrash, the mutant threw the viking to the ground, as one of its tendril-like legs speared through his chest the moment he impacted with the blackened ground, driving itself into the rock in the process. Eyes wide, the leader of Vanguard looked down at the limb and grimaced. "Well...ain't that...somethin'..." he choked, coughing out a spatter of blood. With extreme skill, the viking hacked the limb off from the rest of the mutant with his axe using only one hand, prompting the monstrous worm to retreat with a shriek. Although it could feel no pain, it knew wasting its body parts on something very much dead was undesirable. With a shuddering chuckle, the leader of Vanguard slumped over, his axe still grasped tightly in one hand...

Jerrin snarled beheading another would be attacker, the vampires body slumped to the ground in a heap. Growling more out of gleeful pleasure then rage Jerrin lunged forward smashing another Vampire against the wall feeling its bones shatter under the Lycan's powerful punch! Continuing on deeper into the cavernous depths Jerrin thought back to the Argonian, wondering if it was wise leaving the Lizard man alone. Suddenly Jerrin could hear the sounds of screeching Vampires as their lives came to short and brutal ends. Grinning, Jerrin knew that it Spike could handle himself...

Desrium hoisted a mutant laying at his feet without hindrance, paying no mind to its attempts to resist him. It scrambled and grabbed at his armored body and ended up losing a hand for its trouble; Desrium tossing the undead just as its grasp was on his neck. The hand separated from its wrist with a pop of its bones and the scorpion caught it with it's tail, the three barbs punching through its chainmail with little problem. Making a whipping motion with the limb, the corpse ripped off of the three stingers and was sent flying back at Desrium, the Blood Omen spinning out of the way and the body audibly thumping against the ground. Desrium then dodged its right pincer when it was sent at him in a swiping motion, the Justicar then stabbing into its 'wrist' and pinning the arm to the ground by stomping on it...

"Ya damn nasty blighter!" Urlox shouted, grappling onto the worm's back while Bardia continued to ravage its side and underside. Throwing his weight up its body, the captain of the guard hauled himself onto the mutant's neck and wrapping his free arm around it, tugging it backwards along with its cracked head...

Spike Lunged forward unexpectedly, the pure speed of the attack surprising the vampire which barely had time to blink before it's head left it's shoulders and it's coven mates could only watch as their companions head and body fell to the floor below before another was smashed in the temple with spike's crocodile like tail the force enough to shatter its skull as yet another vampire was cut down the middle with spikes greatsword. Grinning, spike landed and started to swing and slash at the vampires that leaped down at him. Before long every vampire in the cavern was dead and spike leapt foreword following Jerrin.

a brilliant bright blue explosion tore across the Scorpion's back, as the buzz of rippling wing membranes could be heard overhead, the glare of the blast and low visibility working together to conceal the undoubted source; Septimus had caught up with the armoured being. A bellowing roar tore out into the sky as Septimus shot up vertically, his tattered wing membranes and thunder-scorched hide aching and stinging with every movement, the sticky sensation of dried blood irritating though unavoidable as he flipped in mid air, about to dive down for another shot as a smaller brown dragon, one of Valenhad's former weapons, collided with him, bubbling pus-filled cysts bursting out between its scales as its grey-glazed eyes stared into his own furiously, unstable flames rolling in its jaws, mere seconds from spilling out over the Scholar, Septimus snarling as he gripped its maw with one powerful hand, driving the claws of a second one into its throat, tearing downwards and outwards, splitting its throat, severing several wing muscles and shredding its left wing membrane, before tossing it aside violently with a snarl, the creature tumbling with a horrified screech as its own flames spilled out and engulfed its upper torso, the creature plummeting to the ground hundreds of feet below, the Scholar resuming his attempt to help his comrade...

Meanwhile, The Knight Commander of Valenhad's Silver Order clashed with the massive mutated bat, colliding with it in mid air, his drake tearing violently at its wings as he gripped the young Dragon's reigns and saddle with three of his limbs, his sword arm swinging a large broadsword down over its monstrous head...

The mutated arachnid cared little for the flames that took hold on its chitin, becoming a fiery cape that gave its tail a warm glow in the darkness. It paid the Hueilin little mind at that, concerned with its more immediate opponent. It raised its left pincer high and brought it down like a hammer, Desrium throwing himself into a roll and standing moments after the thundering crack of impact reached him. The scorpion focused itself on where Desrium now stood, raising its right claw which now hung awkwardly; smashed by the monstrous blow. Unperturbed by the injury, it struck out with its tail, grabbing Desrium by the upper torso and lifting him overhead. Desrium gripped the spear with both hands and impaled the tail, slicing the prongs across its width and severing it. As he fell, he turned the blades downwards, his own mass driving it down into the beast's head.

The Lance of the Justicar was embedded in a cluster of three eyes, sickly black sludge seeping out from the roach-like head. Twisting the spear in his gauntlets, Desrium wrung its neck and snapped it off completely. To his surprise, the stub of a tail flailed and whipped itself into the armored being's chest, blowing him off of the mutant and sending him into the dirt. Even beheaded and in its dying stages, the beast was still lethal...

Septimus made a low flying pass as the creature's head was torn off, reddish energy swirling along his torso and neck, meeting behind his jaws and disappearing under the scales as a reddish white fireball soared forward, aimed right at the hole where the beast's head once was, the Dragon veering upwards and to the side before he got into range of the monstrosity's lethal arsenal...

The fireball exploded within the mutated arachnid and its corpse belched out flames from several newly created orifices, chunks of chitin ejected from its back and sides with geysers of fire erupting from within its body. Its tail flailed and it staggered on its eight legs. It began to tremble and it started to sway, swinging its pincers about blindly. After several moments of this, the scorpion fell onto its stomach, releasing its tainted fluids onto the land, the fire creating a bubble of light in the bleakness.

A few feet away from the felled beast, Desrium watched the crackling flames, only breaking eye contact to cut down the undead infantry that rushed at him, easily dispatching them as he awaited Septimus...

A powerful gust of wind fanned the flames in the direction of several oncoming monstrosities, as Septimus landed heavily behind and over his friend, the Dragon's broad, plated chest looming over the Blood Omen's shoulders as Septimus snarled deeply, unleashing a broad swathe of reddish flames onto incoming abominations of all kinds, the fire bound with entropic energy that dissolved whatever it touched, the magic as destructive as the flames themselves, nothing but ash left in its wake. Septimus himself was nearly unrecognisable. His wings were tattered and dripped bright whitish gold fluid, undoubtedly the Hueilin equivalent of blood. Electrical arcs crackled across his horns and around his eyes, small bolts leaping between the various protrusions of scale and horn across his armoured hide, sometimes connecting with the ground, leaving small craters and fires in their wake. His hide itself was covered in glowing lightning scars from the electrocution he suffered at the claws of his father's shadowy twin, and gashes could be spotted from the earlier fights with the Shadowreavers...

"I appreciate the assistance" Desrium stated, turning around to see the damage his friend had sustained. He could not tell if Septimus' injuries were exceptionally painful, just as the Scholar couldn't apply pain to the Blood Omen. Without the blue and gold robe, the scrape along his shoulder where his sword was thrown was visible, along with several others around his body where he met the weapons of the undead horde. The most serious wounds the armored being had received were definitely from his copy; whose chaotic energy beams still left glowing lines on his arms and his midsection, and the aspect of Eredar; the large glowing gash on his side being especially prominent. "Are you well?" Desrium asked the Hueilin Scholar.

"I have....been better" grunted the Scholar, his voice rougher than normal, the heavy use of his breath weapon having taken a toll on his throat. the faded wailing of a number of mutants sounded out behind him, the Dragon craning his neck over his shoulder as he spotted several of the abominations, their limbs distorted, their weapons melded with their arms, some even lacking heads, or heads embedded with what looked like badly warped helmets, the bowl-like structures rent open and turned into vicious, jagged metal blades. The Hueilin snarled irritably, balling a fist as energy crackled along it, before hurling an orb of reddish energy at his tail, the momentarily energised limb sweeping into the incoming horde, the first two exploding violently the moment the large spiked find of his tail struck them, the remaining few getting impaled on the end of it before being hurled away several dozen feet, slamming sickeningly into the ground as they tumbled, in several cases being torn apart on impact with the armour and weapon strewn ground, a combination of jagged metallic wreckage and the sheer force of the impact destroying the monstrosities instantly...

Following the path of Septimus' tail with his eyes, Desrium saw the remains of Draxonian soldiers, recognizing their armor from his short time in Grymhaven. "They fought for their own destruction. They are quite backwards indeed" he mused before jumping high into the air and spreading his golden wings, gliding onto Septimus' shoulders and sitting himself down. "I have seen Jiier" the armored being said aloud to his friend.

"Seems whatever happened has been dealt with" growled the Dragon as he leapt into the air, beating his wings powerfully as he departed the scene of the dead scorpion beast, heading off in search of other potentially dangerous opponents...

"Yes" Desrium responded without any further elaboration. The maned dragon's crisis had been resolved, though the means in which it occurred was utterly unknown at this time. Furthermore, Desrium was still unsure how Jiier changed from the brown and tan hermit he knew to the black and red Blood Dragon of legend. Not seeing the need to tell Septimus about his inquiry while they were needed in combat, Desrium turned his attention to the war effort...

The worm thrashed, throwing Bardia away with a jerk of its body while testing Urlox's grip on its back. The creature began to plunge toward the ground, intent on removing the invader while burrowing.
