Well, your forgetting that during the non-glacial periods of the ice Age, North America was veyr similar to Africa nowadays... Columbian Mammoths would be right at home, as would things like Terror Birds and Glyptodons...

Unless there was a sudden shift in the Earth's axis that I forgot about in the last 10,000 years, North America was not near the equator. In terrain? Probably similar to African grassland. In temperature? Completely different story.

If only North America were closer to the Equator. I'd be happy. >.>

If the gods didn't want us eating pigs, they wouldn't have made them out of BACON!

bacon is made of a certain area of an animal. I eat beef bacon :P [which, believe it or not, most Europeans I know say is more or less the same, aside from the meat being a slightly different colour].

... Not really, CS. It's not too hard to assume that temperatures during the non-glacial periods of the last ice age would have been reasonably high, around 70 or 80 degrees average. Sure, the seregetti's very hot, but then you have animals that normally wouldn't be found in such hot conditions, like Thylacines and black bears, doing OK. What's not to assume Phorusrhacos would fit right in?

And bacon is indeed food fit for a deity...

Because the temperatures in the equatorial regions of Africa soar past 120 or even further regularly. The desert is even hotter. They would stand no chance if they were adapted to 70 - 80 degree weather. Hell, GLOBAL temperatures are much higher than they were 10,000 years ago, meaning the entire world will have changed so drastically that their niche in a modern environment would be nonexistent.

Now consider every animal alive today, living in these conditions and you see why long extinct animals would not fit in.

Going by that, monst North American animals living today wouldn't fit in, considering they don't usually deal with temperatures that high... your average grizzly bear/Grey wolf would be sweltering in the heat... How do you justify THEM surviving in 120+ degree temperatures in an african reserve?

And that's not exactly true, especially for those animals that lived in South America during the last Ice Age... The Amazon area was more or less the same temperature that it is now, and Terror Birds, Smilodon, and Glyptodons did just as well down there as they did up in North America... Sure there were no Mammoths, but oh well...

Creative freedom, in the words of KP. Its somewhat passable because, you know, these animals are still alive. And have not been dead. For thousands of years.

As for the South American ancients, moving past the rudimentary temperature differences, the entire global ecology is vastly different than it was 10 thousand years ago. Different seasonal shifts and life forms. Forget being outmatched by a lion or tiger, a terror bird would choke on the new atmospheric conditions or die of sickness because of the new kinds of bacteria and viruses in modern days.

I see your point... No tthat it matters anyway, seeing as wel already have an extinct animals RPG... as much as I'd love to use a terror bird...

Ok for the good of the RPG's sense of time, I would like to propose a week fast forward in FRPG.

Since the giant battle just happened, it kinda makes sense we forward time along to give people's characters time to heal and all. And for various other reasons.

Objections?
