"Several men of similar calibre to Arsenic and myself, have fallen to the ones we're up against. I assure you, You aren't equipped to deal with what we're facing" said Andruil simply, having not even flinched as the weapon shot past his and Riva's head. he had had enough near misses with arrows that he regarded it as only marginally more distracting than a raindrop passing his head...

Desrium had fallen silent again, captivated by the light darting in between the clouds, creating strange shadows. The faintest booms of thunderclaps reached him. "Rain" He said finally, looking from the storm clouds to Septimus. "Like last night" He added, glancing up at the right time to see another flash of lightning.

Riva didn't have time to flinch or blink before the arrow shot by her. She looked back and saw it buried in the tree trunk. She blinked a few times before turning back to them. She slipped her knife back into the pouch, slowly, trying to figure out another way to appeal to them. "If my combat skills are of no use, I also have extraordinary healing powers," she said.

"Thank you for the offer, but we already have healers who do their jobs very well," Vix replied, gently declining the offer, but in a tone that implied that Riva was beginning to push the boundaries.

"It wouldn't be much good if you were skewered on the nose-horn of a demonic Dragon the size of a large inn. I'm sorry Riva, but I'm afraid the answer is still no. We're doing this for your safety. This will be an unpleasant war. You should be happy you're not being involved. Many people may never live to see their families again" responded Andruil firmly, his eyes amber yellow jewels locked with Riva's...

"Precisely" rumbled Septimus as he glided over the forest, soon reaching plains, deciding it best to return to the ground. the storm was approaching fast, and he didn't want to be caught in it. unlike his father, he and rain weren't on the best of terms...

"Is rain a frequent thing?" Desrium asked Septimus as he saw the ground near ever closer. He felt the wind blowing against him, not from the dragon's wing beats but from the distant storm. He opened his mouth, tasting the moist air. He couldn't feel the cool breeze anywhere other than the inside of his mouth, which was always veiled in shadow. He thought about doing the same should he be caught in another storm, turn his mouth to the sky and get a taste of the heavens...

Riva sighed at her defeat and nodded. "Alright," she said and bowed her head meekly. She shuffled her feet in the dirt. "Then I wish you luck with your battle." She looked back up and gave an encouraging, soft, reluctant smile. She bowed to Andruil and the elves and started back toward the river. "But if you have any need of me," she started to add. "Find any water source and cry seven tears and I will come no matter what." Riva sighed again and kept striding to river.

"We'll keep that in mind, Riva. I'll promise you that much" said Andruil, giving her a smile as he turned away, looking at the others. "Shall we move on?" he asked...

"Depends on where you go, Desrium. in some places, the rain never stops. in others, it never arrives" rumbled the Dragon as he landed in a slow trot, soon slowing to a walk as he mentally extracted a map from a satchel, looking at it to decide where to go next...

Riva turned around once again when she remembered something else. "Also if you need a place to hide or get supplies, follow this river to the east until you reach the ocean, you'll find my village along the shore," she added and finally she took off running. Unwinding her skin from her waist she hurriedly slipped it on and splashed into the river. She gave one last good-bye bark and swam back down stream.

"Interesting" Desrium said, wanting to press on with his questions. Why did the sky cry torrents in some places but neglected others? He decided against it though, not wanting to disturb Septimus as he peered at the map. He rumble of thunder was gradually getting louder...getting closer. The armored being began to shift about, moving down from the Huelin's shoulder and slipping underneath his large wing, sitting just by the large, opened satchel with his legs hanging off one side of the dragon's body. He peered into the large bag, wondering what strange items were inside. He knew the dragon's barbeque spit and a large book was inside, but what else? He glanced at the back of Septimus' head for a split second before shoving himself off of him, falling into the giant satchel, things clunking against his dark grey shell on entry...

'let's go,' Arsenic agreed, walking over to the tree and pulling his weapon out of it, giving the metal a critical look even as he turned and started walking in the direction they'd been going. 'Ah, damn. I'll need to make a new one...' he muttered.

"Careful you don't get lost in there, Desrium" rumbled Septimus with a chuckle as he walked onwards, hearing the clatter of equipment. "And be careful with the books" he added as he furled the map, which slipped into the satchel, seeming to plummet inside for a second before hitting the being's metallic head with a papery rustle, dropping aside one of the books, lined up against one corner of the magically expanded satchel...

"Broke your dart, Arsenic?" asked Andruil as he led on, hearing the boom of thunder in the distance, sighing. this was gonna be a soggy trip...

'Adatas,' Arsenic corrected. 'They're adatas. No, I didn't break it - but the tip's bent a bit, and I can't exactly straighten these...they're so thin they snap. oh well.' He pocketed the dulled weapon, looking up as the thunder sounded. 'Lovely,' he added to himself.

A barely audible inquisitive hum came from the bag as the armored being shifted about within, the soft rustling of paper heard again as he grasped the map in his gloved hands, opening it and studying it. A single landmass was detailed on the map, surrounded by several islands, some relatively large and some small and barely significant. Dark lines marked several borders and intricate sketches illustrated the landscape, from large sweeping plains, thick forests, deserts, mountains and so on. The map was adorned with some kind of fancy scripture that Desrium couldn't understand, thus not being able to appreciate it in full. He tilted his head to the side as a thought occurred to him, laying the parchment down. Desrium looked into his own bag, pulling out the small map Syria had given to him. He looked to its illustration of the nearby forest, then down to the larger map in front of him. The area on his map was tiny compared to the land the scholar's map portrayed. In fact, it was merely a more detailed map of the forested region noted on the larger parchment. Another low hum escaped Desrium, the sound amplified by his helm. This land was much larger than he imagined. He slipped his map back into its place then rolled up Septimus' map, the thought still lingering in his mind. There was so much that this place...Aster had to offer.

After putting the map to the side, Desrium went on to look to the other items residing in the creamy, soft leathery interior of the dragon's satchel, his interested peaked...

books of various kinds were lined one side of the large satchel, the rows looking more like a small bookshelf, though the shelves were made of the leathery material itself. strangely, as Desrium set the map aside, a part of the leathery 'bookshelf' morphed, opening up a new space, the roll of parchment sliding into it. among the books was a large leathery brown book, decorated with golden letters. Zuppoland: Legends, Lore, Facts & History glimmered almost magically on the brown book. the thick book was roughly half the width of an average man's torso, undoubtedly several thousand pages wide. near it were several other books, some black, some brown, some having more unusual colours like blue, purple and even beige. Dragons, Wyverns and Hydras: The Mystical and Mythical Beasts of Aster was the title of one such book, black, with a brown pattern in the shape of what vaguely looked like a Dragon. a green book with silver clasps stood beside it, the title on the spine identifying it as Elements & The Arcane Arts by Verruckt Stauphman. yet another, a blood red book stood beside the green one, the title of this one being Kings of Draxon: The facts behind the Legends. the books went on for another 3 rows, each book looking stranger and more eye catching than the last. on top of them were several jars, some carrying strange, glowing flowers, others containing strange fruits that seemed to naturally grow in rings, purple gem-like bulges growing in the side of the fruits. there was also a small wooden chest at the foot of the 'shelves', wrapped tightly in black chains and occasionally giving an eerie hiss, seemingly aggravated by Desrium's approach...

"Ah...Well, do be more careful with your adatas. Would be a pity if they were all blown while scaring little girls wrapped in seal skins" stated Andruil with a smile as he led Furax forward, the horse nickering in a way one could swear was amusement, as if chuckling at the comment...

Desrium, neither unnerved or intimidated by the chained up trunk, made his way over to the rows of books, panning his scarlet eyes across the spines of the decorated tomes. Some of the words made the armored being's eyes flash with insight, learning what the word meant, arcane for instance. The one book that held his attention though was the large, brown volume with the name 'Zuppoland' written in gold. All at once, Desrium knew why the book he got from the inn keeper's library was familiar to him. This very same book was the one the outcast had pulled out the night he and Desrium met. Despite sharing the name, it was clear that this book was quite different, however. The size alone showed that, along with the condition of the tome. It probably wasn't missing pages like the book he had perused through. Desrium was half tempted to pull the giant book out and delve into the information it had to offer, deciding against it. Just as he didn't like his sword being taken away, the dragon probably didn't like his books disturbed. With that, Desrium moved away from the 'shelf', still seemingly unaware of the hissing chest. He turned his attention to the other oddities that surrounded him...

'I have plenty left,' Arsenic said, amused. 'Besides, better to scare a few people to get a point across than to see those people die out of sheer foolishness.'

Andruil simply shrugged in response, continuing onwards. "You know, I can't remember having ever seen a woman Dwarf. Can you? I've seriously begun to suspect that Dwarves grow like mushrooms. Just pop out of the ground after a bit of rain, complete with a beard and a mug of whatever alcoholic beverage it is they drink" stated the man after a few moments of silence. as preposterous as it sounded, he didn't shrug off the possibility...at the very least, it posed an amusing twist to life in Aster...

"Watch out for the Maldevian Slugs, Desrium. black, blue-streaked creatures. they're rare and valuable" rumbled Septimus as he walked, unaware that one such slug had been freed from it's jar when Desrium entered the satchel, and was now oozing it's way up the armoured being's back...

"Um... I was up in my room all night, by myself. To b ehonest, I don't really remember what I did up there... It was just a normal night..." Dione stammered, trying to seem calm. Trajan's eyes narrowed, and he leaned even closer, to the point that his eyes were only a few inches from Dione's eyes.

" For some reason, I highly doubt that. Perhaps, THIS should refresh your memory!" Trajan barked, his voice suddenly rising up as he slammed down infront of Dione the journal that was in the servant's room. Dione nearly caused the chair she was in to fall back from the sudden movement, had the two guards not held the chair in place. Slowly, her eyes looked down on the page that Trajan's finger angrily pointed, and she began to read the page...

"Slugs..." Desrium repeated thoughtfully as he looked about the satchel, his gaze landing on an upturned glass container, its lid laying just beyond where he had landed in the bag. The inside was covered with a strange, light transparent blue sludge that clung the glass, the light shining through taking on the cyan tinge. The creatures inside were obscured by the glaze of slime, their black and blue forms writhing after the disturbance. They were large and stubby in build and sported glowing blue spots that ran down on either side of their undulating bodies. "Oh...slugs" Desrium said, his voice having a hint of understanding after a flash of crimson from his eyes. He shifted himself over to the jar and its cover, staring at the two for a few seconds before a rush of insight allowed him to take the next step: putting the lid back on. He slapped the cover onto the brim of the jar before righting the container, setting it on its base properly. He looked at the specimens with pride in himself for "handling" the situation and fascination. He was so enthralled with the creatures that he barely heard the light thump beside him. He looked to the source of the noise: a Maldevian slug, the one that got out. Its form was still and lifeless. The blue slime that covered its body now encased it, frozen and crystallized. Taken aback by the strange appearance, Desrium gingerly picked up the slug, its body hard and statue like, a stark contrast to the lively creatures in the jar. His red eyes were fixed on the slug for a bit longer before he had a sudden realization. Syria once pulled away from him after a short touch, experiencing a sudden chill. A grim feeling overcame Desrium as he figured that the same cold must have petrified the poor slug shortly after it found itself onto his body. He simply continued to stare at the slug in his metal palm after that, unsure of what he could do now.
